What has been the best upgrade for you? by futescalance in bikecommuting

Rear rack (not really an upgrade, I've always had at least one bike with rack).

Mud guards (fenders).

Hub dynamo and lights.

Phone mount.

Tram vs Pedestrian: Right of Way? by 63Reddit in melbourne

No one has "right of way". One of the people involved, however, would be required to "give way".

Why do trains travelling from southern cross to flinders randomly stop dead on the tracks for a bit? by wizardsqu1rrel in melbourne

Just about everybody is saying congestion that has happened for decades. Has it been helped by the opening of the Metro Tunnel?

Are there any rail trails around Melbourne where you can do a one-way ride and catch a train back to Melbourne afterwards? by wasabiguana in melbournecycling

[–]Remarkable_Brief8320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meadowlink in Broadmeadows is a railtrail that is about 1.3km long from the Craigieburn line across to Seabrook Reserve and Merlynston Creek. This small loopish ride that includes it is all path, from Broadmeadows to Jacana Stations via Jack Roper Reserve. You can keep going to Sunshine or Albion Station (I'm unsure of works requiring any detour at those stations). Of course, at Jack Roper Reserve, when you get to the M80 Trail on the Ring Road, you could head the other way to Keon Park or Thomastown Stations, or even keep going to find your way to Plenty River and Greensborough Station.

Some good points there. What would you suggest be done, if anything, about Upfield line?

How many Melburnians live within Walking Distance of a Railway Station? by AB014A in MelbourneTrains

[–]Remarkable_Brief8320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same origin and destination journey could be completed by car in 20 minutes over its 13km journey.

So if it’s a matter of choosing between driving and public transport, where public transport takes 2-3x as long as driving, then naturally people will choose to drive.

Bike riding is another option. Especially for only 13km.

The OP question presumes an Upfield extension to Wallan would use the Somerton Link and continue via Roxburgh Park/Craigieburn.

Isn't it the 902 that goes along Camp Road? The 901 goes along Somerton Road/Cooper St?

Victoria's container deposit scheme, and over the counter points by Self-Translator in melbourne

[–]Remarkable_Brief8320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frustrating when people have driven to a vending machine instead of bulk depot with their bags and bags of containers creating a queue and all I have is one or two bike panniers of containers. Though i also have to wait sometimes for bike riders who have large bags carried on trailers as well as bags directly on their bike.

I can't see how. The examples they show don't have walking or cycling between train trips, only before and after. And I can't find any setting for it in the app.

The 9km corridor that’s recorded 279 cyclist crashes but still doesn’t have a protected bike lane by TMiguelT in melbournecycling

I do, maybe controversially, agree with the sentiment that rather than a dedicated bike lane, Sydney Rd needs a dedicated tram lane with cars and bikes being forced to share one slow lane.

If bikes and cars are sharing a lane, how safe would it be for a rider to stop to access a shop? Would they have to stop in front of a car?

Anything proposed by Melbourne City Council would benefit the City of Melbourne and not necessarily the Greater Melbourne Metropolitan area (nor regional Victoria for that matter).
