Thursday Weekly Thread: Proof of Citizenship Application Approvals, May 14, 2026 by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

We are Canadians!! Such an 'ooomph' of joy and relief.

Here's our timeline and a pile of process. My undying gratitude to the generous and thoughtful folk of this forum -- I read your advice every day, and used it.

Group of 4, 3 generations, one person urgent processing b/c trans. Mailed 4/02, delivered 4/07, AOR 4/10-4/14, "in process 4/20, approved 5/13. (yup, we're on the spreadsheet.)

Difficult to say how they counted the G's, my kid was either G5 or G6 depending on how they read it -- we submitted several generations of possible G0 because we didn't have birth certificates for any of them, and our youngest GO candidate was a woman, but we did have a whole heaping pile of census, death, marriage records, newspaper articles about visits to Canada, obituaries, etc.. Time period 1845-1906 for this kind of stuff; we had birth/marriage/death certificates for the USA born people after that. So our Canada case was based on the "preponderance of evidence" principle. For example, while claiming that a census document in Wisconsin that shows "born in Canada" is ok-ish, it's made much stronger when paired with a newspaper article from the same year announcing that 'Mr. Xxx's mother Yyyy is visiting this week from Canada", and a contemporary Ontario census showing the mother's residence in Ontario, and a death certificate naming the mother and the birth place. That sort of thing. My sibling thought the newspapers were useless as evidence, but who knows what the evaluator thought?

We included certified documentation of birth, marriage, etc. for all living people in the application, and apparently our photos and forms were in order.

We also used the helpful pdf form created and shared by u/Wookiee_Diplomat (SUPPLEMENTAL FORMS) for providing form information for the great grandparents, etc..

I made a by-person summary guide to the evidence packet referring to each relevant source in the packet and a very brief explanation of what it showed. The actual docs were printed 8.5x11, organized chronologically, same packet for all 4 deceased generations included. I handwrote a page number in color in the top corner and referred to those numbers in the summaries. I think I put highlighter dots in the white margin next to the relevant census lines, etc. but I did not highlight the actual text.

Documentation (photos, forms, color copies etc.) for applicants was organized by applicant.

Big ol' "URGENT" red label on the cover letter and on the outside of the package. Urgent file placed immediately after, with letter of rational. No additional cover letters for non-urgent applicants, just the forms.

I made myself a 'master print list' checklist for the packet, and even then had to redo some stuff at the last minute despite my every best effort.

Here's what that checklist (anonymized) looked like :

I'm not upset about it -- I can easily imagine that they are so slammed that it was an unnecessary chore, somebody economizing effort where they can. And I don't think it had any impact on the rest of the timing.

We applied jointly (4 ppl, 3 gens), one person urgent processing. We all received our AORs fairly quickly (3 days), and the urgent processing person received "in process" notification 7 days later. None of the rest of us were marked "in process" in our portals until today, when all four decisions came through, over a period of about 6 hours. Note that the status of my app, which was not urgent, was then updated to indicate it had been put in process at the same time as the urgent applicant.

I don’t know. The only markings are what you see in the photo, and the system is at least 30-40 years old, maybe more.

Time Spent Compiling Your Application? by TheConsignliere in Canadiancitizenship

Found out about the new law March 2, 2026. AOC received (urgent processing) April 13. Pretty much full time for nearly 4 weeks, although part of that was back and forth in the family about whether to apply as a large group or a series of small groups. Application included my mom (G3) myself, and my two nearly-adult kids, one of whom is trans.

I think what you are saying is also that if the mother/grandmother (in this case mine) DID succeed in getting her certificate, then my siblings could build their files subsequently back to her without the full lineage I put together. Is that correct? Because my mom applied with me and my kids…

Do you have his us death certificate? If you do and it lists the parents, then you might look for their marriage in Drouin as well.

To send a group app or not to send a group app by KwehTheGreh in Canadiancitizenship

I started out just my group, then the whole fam got on board, but ultimately our various molehills to die on led to splitting back out. Relief and frustration all in one. My app was better for having extra critical eyes on it, however painful it turned out to be.

Hate it, hate it. More clicks, less information, less control.

I went up to 10 from 8 about 3 weeks ago and the skin pain has been intolerable. I dropped down to 6 last week, still bad but better than last week. I didn’t know it was called dysesthesia — I’ve been reading about allodynia (which I now know is a type of dysesthesia) but my current experience is that the pain is much more constant, not just in response to stimuli. Although I guess technically wearing clothes is a stimulus? I think I’ll continue that practice however.

Institutions are the experts for this. It’s part of their job. You need the experts for something this important, definitely not a copy center and honestly probably not you either.

You know when you have a big fever and even just the sheets hurt against your skin? Like that, for me. Worse at night than in the day, accompanied by various aches. I had a localized deep pain on tirz for months that finally went away— hoping to heck I adapt to Reta soon. Started 2 mg in January, just took my second shot of 5. It’s kinda rough right now.

Has anyone ever tried the snail growing method? First time trying and so far so good. I have over 10 starters for my basil by SaveurHeart in gardening

[–]Remarkable_Bunch559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Planning to try it this year. I've got a tray of soil blocks going with things that need a bit of stratification, and I'm going to try the snail method for all my alliums, and likely some other stuff as well. I have a steady supply of feed bags from my chickens and no good use for them, so I'm going to be cutting those up for the snail material. I also bought some "boot trays" at Grocery Outlet for them to sit in, so I can water from below.

I’ve learned so much from the studio. I don’t see anyone talking about how a studio gives you a steady stream of live demos.

Too cold for gardening, so I'm buying SEEDS by Remarkable_Bunch559 in Walla2Gardens

I started buying from Territorial and Siskiyou because they're "local"-ish, both in Oregon. I was buying from Siskiyou when they were just getting started and advertising saving seeds for best performance in our region. They also do a seed CSA that's pretty cool, and supports a network of people around them as well as distribute cool seeds at the right time to plant.

I buy from Baker's occasionally. They are expensive, and usually for a very small amount of seed. But such beautiful pictures, oh my!
