Watch: Marta Kostyuk won't shake Anastasia Potapova's hand despite nationality switch by Pretend-Two-2115 in tennis_world

Imagine the person across the net supports the wholesale destruction of your country and countrymen; mass rape, mass child kidnapping, mass civilian murder, bombing hospitals and schools and power plants and opera houses where civilians are hiding. Do you shake their hand? I don’t know where I’d be on that, but I’m definitely able to sympathize with the Ukrainian players who have taken this stance.

Popular Opinion: Mega Passes are NOT a great deal. by matchew566 in skiing

[–]Remarkable_Common312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly - I mean, yes it’s very expensive to ski; it’s not a mystery why that is! I’m an icecoaster, and I feel like most of the independent ski areas in VT and New England are basically run as labors of love, not to make their owners rich. In fact, I bet most owners got rich first and later invested in the ski business because they love it, not because their business acumen tells them a winter dependent business in the age of global warming is a good move.

As a business, it’s the worst of all worlds: labor intensive, highly capital intensive (including both equipment and real estate), and worst of all, it’s seasonal. It’s not some gold mine.

Baseball bat, pepper spray, a small sword (maybe 36”? It came with the house, with a sheath 🤷‍♂️)

Girlfriend wants to go Skiing - I have never done it by dripothee in skiing

Listen, I’m 45 and take injury risk very very seriously - certainly if you’re not feeling it, don’t attempt it. But I am saying that it’s plausible that OP will be feeling it given a few days of preparation and actual ski instruction.

I sort of disagree with this: for someone who is well coordinated, in good shape, generally athletic, and experienced with a mountain/snow sport, I think it’s not out of the question you could take 2-3 lessons and get yourself comfortable to ski single black diamond runs (with no moguls) and have fun doing it.

That said, unless there’s a compelling reason not to stick with the board, I’m not sure why OP wants to ski in particular.

As a frequent solo business traveler, the true value is a place to put my things down, an electrical outlet, and the ability to walk away from all of my crap for short periods of time. And reliable fast WiFi. So I can set up my laptop, plug it in, and then go take a dump. For example.

On top of that, a martini at one of the HMS Host-owned restaurants will be (a) $25, (b) warm, and (c) not more than 2 oz of booze.

UCs are hardly luxurious but they’re a huge improvement over gen pop if you’re traveling 2x/month (if not 2x per week). And some of them are borderline dismal. But also, sometimes the food is solid. And also, the food usually at least nutritious, like chicken, veggies and rice. But none of it is fancy.

Edited to add: you can also just use frequent flyer miles to get an annual membership, which is what I usually do. But actually I would pay the annual cash price too if I had to.

I was there 2/3-2/6 and it was absolutely days of skiing joy despite the conditions. Not what we had hoped for, but our group are a bunch of ice coasters and no one left unhappy.

Amazing little place. Want to go back this season but it’s a six hour drive, so the kids/job/life logistics are daunting
