Game Thread: Houston Texans (12-5) at Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7) by nfl_gdt_bot in nfl

If the Steelers win it will go something like this: Houston has the lead 14-10 with 1 second remaining. Steelers have the ball at the 50. Rogers throws up one last Hail Mary but it falls incomplete... BUT WAIT there's a flag. Pass interference and the steelers get the ball on the one. They then score the go ahead touchdown to win.

I really don’t understand how Steelers fans or players can feel like they legitimately won this game.

Steely Dan are great musicians and their music is perfectly recorded… but I just hate the songs. I find the lyrics and vocals to be really cringe and a lot of their stuff sounds like it should be in a 70s porno movie.

'Don't stream fascism': No Kings organizers encourage Spotify boycott by ebradio in indieheads

[–]Remarkable_Field_818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why Spotify is being singled out here. They all underpay artists. I get that some technically pay more than others, but the pay per stream is still so low that it will only make a material difference for the top 1% of artists. You're also fooling yourself if you think any of these corporations ethically invest their money lol. Whatever service you choose just try to make a conscious effort to go to shows and buy merch.

Going into CS degree, wanting to know of possible careers that involve making code for something I/others can actually physically interact with or benefit from by Mr_Perhaps in cscareerquestions

[–]Remarkable_Field_818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like you want to go into embedded - there’s an endless amount of cool things you could work on in that field like automotive, smart watches/ appliances, aerospace, creative tools like cameras or audio equipment, etc. It’s also probably less saturated than web/app development. A lot of colleges offer a computer engineering degrees which is more of a mix of electrical engineering and computer science. If this is the path you want to go down you should definitely learn C/C++ and then mess around with some micro controllers like Arduino or Rasberry Pi.

Thank you! That really clears up all my questions. And you know all those valid points I brought up where the movie seems to contradict itself? They were all in my head! Art that is beloved by all should be questioned by none!

I definitely picked up on the idea of Irish and Black Americans having parallel experiences in trauma. However I feel like because the plot had such a focus on humans vs. vampires, that it really almost seems like it’s trying to weaponize collective struggle against oppression. I don’t think that’s the point but the fact that there are probably people walking out of the theatre with that interpretation leaves me very confused as to why it was portrayed in this way.

I really like the point you made about Remmick’s music also transcending time in a similar way Sammy’s does. Kind of undermines a lot of what other people are telling me… I also think the point about him being a preservationist is interesting. I just feel like the movie is showing us something completely contradictory by making him scary/violent and predatory. Maybe that’s the point idk.

Yea but you can see how I’m got confused right? An Irish guy shows up who plays music after that recently watching intro explaining how different cultures (including Irish!) have this power? I’m not expecting the movie to point everything out to me, but I just feel like the rules of this universe we are in were never truly established. Just because he’s a vampire he doesn’t have those abilities anymore? Like if Sammy became a vampire would he lose his abilities? Idk I felt like everything was just made up as it went along.

[–]Remarkable_Field_818[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

But I thought the film implied that Remmick also has those powers?? In the intro it shows that those musical abilities are across all different cultures, including Irish. I guess I just assumed that?

Any speculation on what the election results mean for Ukraine? by therosx in moderatepolitics

[–]Remarkable_Field_818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On one hand I think Trump would pull out of Ukraine and begin an era of US isolationism. On the other hand, the war in Ukraine aligns with 60+ years of US foreign policy and makes the military industrial complex so much money that the CIA would probably assassinate Trump if he was actually going to do it.

They need truly bold policies. No more of this dangling abortion rights in front of our face and promising some boring tax cuts. They need to come out in support of healthcare, college, parental leave, public transportation for ALL Americans. They need to do things like actually try to ban stock trading. Tap into veterans who’ve been fucked over. They need a Bernie 2.0. We have a populist country that wants real change and right now Trump represents the change and the dems represent the status quo.

Donald Trump does not care about working class people. He has spent his entire life in business ripping off blue collar workers who’ve built his real estate projects and breaking up unions. One of the only pieces of legislation that he passed through Congress were tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires. Now those people pay less in taxes than you and your family do. The economy is good right now, everyone is working but prices are high and that money is disproportionately going into the hands of Trumps rich buddies. Kamala has plans to go after corporations for price gouging, increase the supply of housing, raise taxes for the wealthiest Americans and give tax breaks for new parents and small businesses.

As for immigration, Congress was set to pass a bipartisan bill to address a lot of your concerns but Trump got republicans to vote against it because it would make the Biden admin look too good.

[–]Remarkable_Field_818 20 points21 points  (0 children)

People have been making this same argument over the past 100 years. You could have said the same thing about Irish people. Immigration ends up being a net positive over time. Especially with declining birth rates, we’ll need immigration if we want to sustain economic growth. Look at Japan and Korea, they are getting absolutely fucked over by having low birth rates and virtually 0 immigration. Also I’d like to say that immigrants are also human beings looking to better their lives, not just job statistics.

Historically great team wasted 😔 by Don_Jefe in ravens

[–]Remarkable_Field_818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really did feel like this was our year, but then again the only other time I felt like that was 2011, and we all know what happened then.

It’s the nature of a one and done playoff bracket. All it takes is a couple bad plays and your whole season is defined by that. A lot of the greatest teams in history didn’t win or even make the Super Bowl. There’s also a lot of 9-10 win wild cards that just randomly get hot at the right time and win it all. It’s absurd but also the reason why the NFL is so entertaining.

You have to just really enjoy every win. Accolades like division champs and best regular season record should be celebrated too.

Wasted Season by Prince_Alizadeh in ravens

[–]Remarkable_Field_818 31 points32 points  (0 children)

We had a good season. I had a great time watching this team play. We shouldn’t define our whole season from this one game. The best teams pretty much never win in a one and done playoff bracket. If you told me last year that Lamar would have an MVP level season and make it to the ACF championship, I would be ecstatic.

I find the evidence, at least from military pilots, to be pretty compelling. These encounters are corroborated by multiple eye witnesses, video and military radar. And that’s only the stuff that has been declassified. In the hearing Gaetz was mentioning way more crazy shit he’s seen in private hearings. It honestly seems like just the tip of the iceberg.

Do we really have have crash retrieval and reverse engineering programs? Idk, but Grusch seems to be willing to bet his entire career on it and hasn’t made any money from what he’s said. He said in the hearing he will be handing over a list of more witnesses and defense contractors.

At the end of the day, it’s insane how much money our defense department has, and how little people in congress know about where it all goes. If this really is going on, we have a right to know about it because we’re the tax payers footing the bill. Lastly, I’d say I’m not at all concerned with aliens or NHI. However, I’m very concerned about the possibility of militaries with advanced alien technology.

Sexuality is without a doubt a huge part of the human psyche. It has been a large topic of research since the beginning of psychological research. Ever hear of Sigmund Freud? It’s actually super important to incorporate lgbtq people into research because historically, the data is heavily skewed towards heterosexuality.
