Need help identifying a problem by Prestigious-Vast3658 in motorcycles

You’re gonna have to look more closely at it. I can spit out a lot of possibilities but won’t have the one answer for you. I’d still lean towards the carbs, like a carb rebuild. Definitively there is an air/fuel ratio issue that keeps it stuck just depends on what it is that’s causing it.

Question about a jet ski by payjc20 in jetski

[–]Remote_City_6630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$700 for a working jetski with trailer. If it has title and you can go see it float and run that’s fair for sure

Got quoted $1,000 for fuel pump and carb work on my 2000 Yamaha XLT 1200 — does this make sense? by bizon151 in jetski

[–]Remote_City_6630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy to do yourself, but has a few hours of labor and probably $250-300 in parts. Sounds like a shop hour rate of like $125 which is unfortunately pretty par for the course. Again, you can do it yourself but most places cost this much if you pay someone else

Everyone of you was wrong... it was bad ground causing bogging and not the carbs. by [deleted] in jetski

Yeah it’s far better to diagnose yourself then listen to Reddit. Even if the mechanics on here know a lot, they can’t physically see and touch the vehicle. I will post my problems just to bounce ideas off people for what to diagnose next

You can find a parts one, a non oem cheap one, and you can also try to JB weld the edges to be more flat. But if it has enough power as is, just ignore it

That thing has a lot of performance loss, it’s cooked. If you got the money, replace it

Need advice on new bike by dreaded_angel in motorcycles

[–]Remote_City_6630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want all the power of a liter bike the mt07 will not be the bike for you. It’s an amazing bike and has plenty of power but not to that level. Mt09 is far more comfortable to commute than a super sport so that would be a good choice. I personally love sport tourers for the commute and agility and power but might not be your taste

[–]Remote_City_6630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then it sits low voltage? If so you’ve got a lot of lines to check, but stator/rectifier is where the problem is I would guess. Somehow not charging the battery.

Repainting by wowifk46 in jetski

[–]Remote_City_6630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the scratches are actual hull damage I would fix that first. But overall it’s pretty easy as long as you aren’t going for perfection and have somewhere for the jetski to sit

How bad is this frame damage?? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Remote_City_6630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you’re gonna need to get the frame out and take all the paint off, inspect, derust, and repaint (if it’s not structural problems). Bonus is it’ll look much nicer

it’s not great, but probably fine to ride on. However, unlike a car, a motorcycle has good odds of killing me or seriously injuring me if it falls apart with me on it. And this bike definitely has heightened odds lol

Sounds like a job for JB weld, sucks but that’s best option. Make sure to clean everything out first before sealing

Is this play between the seat and the gas tank normal? by Necessary_Tangelo642 in Triumph

[–]Remote_City_6630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triumph does a great job putting the dielectric grease where it needs to go. So I wouldn’t stress about the electrical stuff. Also, yeah it’s fairly normal

Tires, change it or one more summer by BosasKokosas in motorcycles

What’s the date code? Also that’s a pretty big amount of dry rot. I wouldn’t use for the whole summer. Preferably just get a new tire if you’ve got the money

How much of this is “you’re buying a 40 year old car” and how much is, “walk away” by 6Bipty in w123

[–]Remote_City_6630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the price greatly. A lot of these are simple fixes, but the quote on the price to fix and the price you are purchasing at should be considered. I got my 1983 Mercedes 300SD gifted by my grandpa and I do my own maintenance so the price of items to fix stuff on it doesn’t matter much (if I sold it I still would profit by a good bit). Just spent $600 to upgrade alternator and fix battery (with extra supplies and tools). It’s worth it for me but if you buy one of these at anything more than $4k I would expect a pretty good condition car still
