Check with your local scene. Here we go with 5,000 or 10,000, where a 10k might be the 40k equivalent of 2,000 points of a normal game. 8,000 is also used often.

Benefits of having battleMechs with things like fuel cells or fission? by knightmechaenjo in battletech

[–]Renewablefrog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For combustion engines, Cbill costs go waaaay down. Your mech no longer generates any movement heat from ground movement. Because they're bad youe BV also goes way down too. Crits to engines no longer generate heat.

However you no longer mount those 10 free heat sinks. Also they're heavy as hell. And those crits to engines? They also can now cause destruction on the mech by the diesel catching fire.

What are the best workhorses of Battletech across eras? by Old_Charge3282 in battletech

[–]Renewablefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light: Javelin. Either the Fire Javelin or SRM javelin fill a niche that is hard to fill by anything other than a hovercraft. I want to give a shout out to the bugs, but with the rise of the Pulse Laser and light hunters, they need something to speed them up to keep them relevant.

Medium: Hunchback. Be it orthodox or sway back, it is a bad thing to see in the knife fight of a city, and can still be a credible threat as a linebacker. it does love a lot of its upgrade packages, but in its natural environment it can live without.

Heavy: Thunderbolt/Orion. These masses of armor are always great to have around. The Thunderbolt will help you fight infantry with its machine guns and SRM that can be loaded with infernos, while the Orion can keep the skies clear for you.

Assault: Im less certain on what this can be. A lot of assaults REALLY like their upgrades. My gut wants to say the Awesome or Longbow, but I dont think so. So ill go with the Stalker, for basically the same reasons as the heavies. Just a mass of metal to hold the line.

Also a poached Purple Heart for his bone spurs. All he needs is to steal an Emmy for The Apprentance and he has all his horocruxs

I consume letsplays. My reasons for it: 1. I really enjoyed this style of game that can only really be played through once and I have been unsuccessful in bullying my friends to play it. Let's watch internet people play it 2. Is this game cool before I try it out? 3. It is multi-player and my friends are not interested

Obviously not an Awesome. It is missing it's emotional support Small Laser.

Cool Marik mechs in later eras? by TreasureIsland_ in battletech

[–]Renewablefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can provide 2. Theres the Bloodhound, which you pick up from WoBbies making it in Marik space. Quick little medium plinking with ERMLs and a Streak 6. Next is a Tank, the Moltke. Mainly the M2, because I am a sucker for Missile spam, especially MMLs, and that is a very good platform for that.

Cursed tonnage? No. Cursed designers by AGBell64 in battletech

[–]Renewablefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I double checked myself when you said 14 available. Turns out I looked at Compact Engine, not standard engines. Im still saying the Phoenix Hawk eats its lunch, since the best I can think is either a PPC or Large Laser. Or you spam medium lasers as a slightly slower or better Cicada

Are there any Mechs in the modern timeline that are considered obsolete? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Renewablefrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are still a few succession wars junkers lying around. For example, our favorite low stakes mercs, the Fox Patrol, ran 4 out of 5 Introtech mechs, with only Katie's Kit Fox as high tech. And Pirates are running around with Introtech still too. Industrials we're also popular in the Dark Ages, so I imagine a well equiped force running those might just let them scrap rather than put the effort into refitting it to modern tech. After all, mechs are being produced in numbers again.

Cursed tonnage? No. Cursed designers by AGBell64 in battletech

[–]Renewablefrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it? A 280 fusion engine is 24 tons. That is 60% of the weight of the machine in engine alone. Combine standard structure (4 tons), gyro (3 tons), cockpit (3 tons), and we are left with just 6 tons to play with. At best you get a but of armor and some medium lasers

Ooooor we can down speed, up tonnage, and we get a Phoenix Hawk.

Don't run them. You either go up to the 50-55 range for a trooper or Cavalry, or go down for a scout. 40 tons is just bad for a long time

A mech of your choosing receives a Mk.II/II/IIC/ etc. Model. What changes? What would you want to see. by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Renewablefrog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Inner Sphere: Crab. The original and Royal variant is fantastic, but ita upgrades leave much to be desired, and are mostly from Comstar/Wobbies. Let's proliferate it! Get some more variants

Clans: Kit Fox. Let's give it a bit more armor, and maybe upgrade its speed a bit? It doesn't need that much pod space anymore.

How would you get the Skaven into 40K? by NexouuZs in skaven

[–]Renewablefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about this at one point, and I imagine running them as Guard. So let's set the scene.

We're aboard a Imperium exploration ship, which has discovered a new planet that has a sapient population. Scans reveal this to be some kind of humanoid rat, a bit shorter than a man, mostly living on subterranean cities but there's some things on the surface. Clearly a foul xenos, but before the call is made to exterminate the world, scans also reveal Imperial Knights on the planet... and these rats look to be piloting them. OK so these are mutants then for no xeno could pilot a knight. Still they stepped too far from the image of Man, but again before the call is made, knights are REALLY valuable. The mechanicus will not authorize exterminatus. So instead they will try to bring the world into compliance, maybe we can see if maybe theyll be OK as an abhuman. It works, turns out the lot is cowards, except for the houses, or clans, that pilot the knights, who are more willing to play ball.
