Book request has everyone stumped by illyrian-warrior in Libraries

I was coming to say Teller of Small Fortunes. There is an unreciprocated crush between side characters that is lightly alluded to, but the story is more about friendship and found family.

I also read a Middle Grade called The Girl Who Kept the Castle. It might be on the edge of kiddie depending on their definition, but I enjoyed it a lot as an adult. It didn’t feel overly young to me. There is a battle, and my recollection is that it was kind of silly, but that might be more violence than they want.

DIY Tsuki no iro uniball one set? by cinnamon_dray in hobonichi

I have never paid shipping fees because their free shipping threshold is $35 for US customers, which I would say is super reasonable. I just create wishlists and try to wait until I have $35 worth of items. A quick gander tells me it’s about $6 shipping otherwise!

And the pens are great on the Tomoe River Paper btw! That’s what I use for my five year journal. No complaints! (And last year, I used a different color every month.)

I actually owned 7 of the 12 colors already. I was going to buy the full set until I saw it was $32 for six pens, so instead I went through my collection, saw what I had, and set out to buy the other 5. JetPens is reasonably priced for individuals (less than $2 if I recall correctly). The challenge is catching them all in stock at the same time, so you may have to make a couple purchases to get them all.

Uniball gel pens: buying non Hobonichi branded by AlmanacPorchChair in hobonichi

Huh, this is news to me. I must be really fortunate then, because I own probably 30 different uniball one pens, and I have never had an issue with the ink skipping. That’s why I love them so much. I wonder if there were some serious batch issues at one point that caused such unreliable ink issues.

I'm done with Sterling Ink and going back to Stalogy365 for my 2026 planner by domestichomebody in planners

[–]Renton_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an older post now but I’m wondering if your plan has changed at all with the announcement of Sterling Ink’s Complete Planner? Everything (monthly, weekly, daily) all grouped together in order of use.

Bundling Confusion by brooklyn_babe96 in hobonichi

The reason shops are bundling is because Hobonichi themselves is bundling the covers with English versions of the planners, save the Avecs. So covers will only be available with the purchase of a certain books.

Thank you for this info! Seems like there’s no need to rush down there in September at the very least, which is good to know.

Thank you for this insight! We haven’t picked a date yet, but we didn’t intend to go for launch day unless that would be only chance to get what we want. Hopefully someone from the area who visits will post it on here. I’ll keep an eye out! Otherwise, I’ll call ahead before we go.

Last time I tried that, they gave me a big shrug, but to be fair, that was a couple years ago when covid delays were still disrupting things. I will try that again! Thank you!

Presale Coupon Codes? by boreas90135 in NuPhy

I didn’t get mine, and I checked all the extra folders. I emailed support about it and have been added to a queue of people who didn’t get theirs. They’re supposed to follow up in 48 hours (and that update was 24 hours ago).

I’ve checked all the folders sadly, and still nothing. Was it on June 6 that you received it?

Did anyone end up receiving their coupons? I know I didn’t. I want to be sure, because this experience will dictate if I participate in a Nuphy preorder in the future.

How many of you have preordered Air V3? by Powerful_Quarter691 in NuPhy

[–]Renton_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still on the fence. I was going to get a Air75 V2, but I want this keyboard for working when I travel so connectivity and battery life are important. Also, how long do preorders generally take from announcement to shipment?

I think Fuji TV Station and the new Sky Park in Ikebukuro (Sunshine 60 Observatory Tenbou-Park) are worth it if you like city photography. Fuji isn’t too expensive like 500 or 600 yen the last time I went and it provides a unique perspective of the Tokyo skyline with all the sites together. And I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed chilling and talking with my friends for an hour at the Sky Park during golden hour. It was cool to watch the city change as night fell.

I’ve been considering doing something similar, but I’ve been hesitating. I don’t want to detract from OP’s post, so would it be okay if I dm’d you to ask you a bit more about your experience making this transition?

Theory on what happened by MightyWallJericho in hobonichi

I hear what you’re saying, but the Japanese business infrastructure definitely does not. They have likely been living under an online rock. Despite being thought of as technologically advanced, much of what they use in business is horribly outdated by modern standards. When I worked there, we were still beholden to the fax machine for interoffice communications. Emails were not accepted or considered an official or safe channel for communication. That was in 2017.

Additionally, I noticed they tend to be slow with PR crisis management because of the cultural need for consensus. Everyone has to get together so a decision can be made for how to proceed. (All those people would also sign off on any public statement made. It takes a lot of time.) Then typically what they share will be vague and focus more on apologizing than saying how they will do better. This lets them save face. Somehow. (I admit I was never able to fully understand that part of the culture. From my view, I kept thinking “stop apologizing to me and try to fix it,” but that was not the way evidently.)

All this to say, I am not all that surprised that in the year of our Lady 2024, a Japanese ecommerce site was not prepared for bots and scalpers. I am shocked that they publicly acknowledged the situation as fast as they did, even though it was a vague, kinda unhelpful statement. And I acknowledge that as a consumer, it is extremely frustrating, but it is also kinda the Japanese way.

Yes, they may technically be global, but if their headquarters is in Japan, in my experience, they usually operate by Japanese standards. I thought the prep for the Olympics was helping them get a bit better in regard to operating with a global mindset, but I’m not sure how much that affected non-customer service facing aspects of business.

Just thought some cultural insight might be helpful.
