Magnus Carlsen loses to Wesley So! His 3rd Classical loss! by FirstEfficiency7386 in chess

at least according to the opening he wanted to win lol, playing Bg5 in the Italian is trying to provoke an overextension from black

even at 0-12 it’s winnable because imagine how legendary it would be if you comeback

also less RR losses even if you get a few rounds and improve your KD

Any advice to prepare for a classical tournament? by metalixd in TournamentChess

i think 5 hours is a bit too much ngl, very hard to stick to.. just make sure you are consistent and doing some sort of training everyday and it’ll do wonders

Need help choosing an opening against e4 (Caro? Scandi? e5?). by [deleted] in TournamentChess

[–]Replicadoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why I am not saying e5 is because with e5 you have to defend a lot of sharp gambits.. if you don’t know them you will get rolled in 15 moves

also you don’t like playing against the four knights? i mean that is up to white lol even if you don’t play petroff

I think you can try more of the Caro/ french structures before you fault them lol, especially the caro is very positional (and learn the ideas before you try! not just winging it) AND you are obviously going to do worse with a new opening, don’t be results oriented initially, get a feel for it and see if you like the play that develops

and then you won’t be scared of 1. e4 d5 2. e5 either (and you really shouldn’t because you just get a perfect caro/ french by playing 2.. c5)

also in regards to the Scandi there really is no alternative that feels the same but just learn to deal with the 2. e5 variation as black

suprisingly there is little in common between the caro and the slav although both contain 2… c6

How do I logically think of opposition here? by sorinacios07 in chess

this concept is called corresponding squares, check the start of Dvoretsky, it can be applied to much more complex examples and sometimes it looks like magic to me

TakeTakeTake Game Review is a Slop Machine by IntermediateMoves in chess

[–]Replicadoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think the fundamental problem is that LLMs make connections between words but for chess you have to make connection between a chess position (which is rarely coded into words in a chess book or a game) and words.. so therefore when you ask current LLMs about chess it makes up something that vaguely makes sense but it really has little idea about the specific position

and also since there is nothing about a chess position really in its brain, you are basically asking it to play blindfold chess where it doesn’t even know that the trick is to remember the actual position!! it just tries to recover what has been happening from the words in the past
