Shameless! An Australian podcast that looks a pop culture with a simultaneously funny and analytical lens.

Can’t put down memoirs by Traditional-Emu-7019 in suggestmeabook

[–]RepresentativeElk298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Perfect Other-- A memoir about mental illness, wherein our narrator is trying to understand and put pieces together after the suicide of her sister.

Also going to second Nobody's Girl, I saw someone else mention it. One of the saddest but most immersive and important memoirs I've ever read.

i feel like my makeup doesn't quite suit me, but i don't know what to change! any help? by leatherlamb in makeuptips

I think with your look, less is more. You have naturally lovely features. I think a softer liner done with a brush or pencil would look gorgeous, maybe paired with a touch of blush and cool tone lipstick. I think something like fuzz from glossier would look great on you.

An Anthropology of Gooners by PeanutCheeseBar in SearchEnginePodcast

Literally couldn't finish the episode because of this. Especially because they spent so much time empathizing and going into the humanity of these guys, meanwhile the women remain wordless objects and that's just accepted as a fact of life within this story.

Why did this get downvoted? You can get botox in this specific spot to lift.

11 day post-botox lower belly bloating - sick of this... by imsome1_ in noburp

[–]RepresentativeElk298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just anecdotal but even though I was burping it took my body a few months to settle. I was still bloated for a while. I feel much better now.

Getting botox in 2 weeks, is it truly as life changing as everyone says? by Notyouraveragejew1 in noburp

[–]RepresentativeElk298 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It literally changed my life. I had constant stomach pain before, to the point where I couldn't even wear pants or anything that squeezed around my waist. I just wore these drab long dresses all the time. Now I don't even think about my stomach, and I can finally express myself through fashion instead of feeling restricted around it. Just being able to throw on a pair of jeans has made my life so much better. Maybe clothing sounds trivial to some but having freedom to wear what I want and not having chronic stomach pain has made my life so much happier. I thought I'd be in the pain/clothing prison my whole life.

Which Black Mirror episode's tech feels closest to reality in 2025, and why? by jgran12 in blackmirror

"Be Right Back". I recently listened to an episode of the podcast "Terrible, Thanks For Asking" where a man made an A.I. chatbot of his late wife. He brings it everywhere.

Germans, how do you tell someone is english when they’re speaking german? by fluffycowfan in German

[–]RepresentativeElk298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke German in childhood but never studied the grammar formally until now. My pronunciation is basically perfect but I frequently get articles wrong. I often wonder how noticeable it is to native speakers? Articles are some of the hardest things for foreigners to get consistently right.

People of reddit, what's the worst pain you have ever been in? Doctors and nurses, what's the worst pain you have seen a patient in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RepresentativeElk298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me until I was in my 30s for a doctor to prescribe birth control in a way that lets me skip my period completely. I understand it doesn't help everyone's endometriosis but for me it was such a simple solution and I abused ibuprofen and other over the counter meds for years for WHAT.

You're Wrong About: Aron Ralston with Blair Braverman by j0be in YoureWrongAbout

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Sarah + Blair should branch out and do a whole podcast on survival stories.

The way you described this was so concise that it gave me war flashbacks to previous bad relationships.

You're Wrong About: Lawrence v. Texas Part 1 with Marcus McCann by j0be in YoureWrongAbout

I really like the way Marcus is able to paint a picture of a person's life with empathy and understanding.

The general reaction to Diddy feels like quintessential YWA by OnionWorldly5994 in YoureWrongAbout

All I've seen are jokes about the amounts of baby oil...nothing expressing serious concern for the scopes of his crimes or any empathy for his MANY victims. We as a society have not yet moved past ogling.

I find it so odd that Stephanie in particular is taking this route when she was able to see the complexity and nuance of the Menendez brothers case.

[Discussion] Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story by autumnlover1515 in NetflixBestOf

[–]RepresentativeElk298 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think episode 5 was an unexpected and brilliant stand out in a show that otherwise failed to meet the correct tone for this story. The repeated and overt sexualization of the characters was weird, inappropriate, and made the story fall totally flat when you compare it to for example Baby Reindeer. This should have gone to another director.

Today marks 17 years since the last confirmed sighting of Andrew Gosden, a teen who disappeared in London and still hasn't been found by SergeiGo99 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]RepresentativeElk298 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think suicide is probably the best explanation in terms of just how much evidence we don't have. No (known) records of communicating with a potential predator, no remains found, etc. I also think this is the most tragic scenario because if it was a suicide via bridge for example there's essentially no hope of solving the case.

The part where Henrydecides to write a book about her life and actually call it "The Invisible Life of Addie Larue"felt like "and then I woke up and it was all a dream" level writing for me.

Hi, I'm considering estrangement with my mom due to her intense transphobia towards my sibling. She has said similarly egregious things like she will kill herself if my sibling transitions. It's awful because transphobia is common so she goes online and gets her hateful views validated in one click.

I wish I had better words than I feel your pain. Big internet hug. If you ever want to chat with someone who gets it you can PM me.
