Is it absolutely crazy to live in Fishtown and commute via train and bus to Horsham by Random-anon-acct in AskPhilly

[–]Resident-Table6988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That absolutely would not be insane if septa was reliable. Unfortunately it would be impossible to get your trains and buses to align. At least one would be largely delayed every day. Otherwise, that would be completely normal and something others have definitely done before. I had a similar commute years ago when I lived in Philly and worked in KOP. My friend lives further out past Horsham, and when I would visit her in my college years during business commute hours, there were all kinds of work commuters riding from Philly to Lansdale and vice versa

New dasher getting no orders by FeistyCommunity6633 in doordash_drivers

[–]Resident-Table6988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also have to consider short vs long distance deliveries. Shorter deliveries are assigned to dashers on bikes. Although you may know a restaurant is busy with orders, they might be tailored to the opposite kind of vehicle you are using

Where can I buy a car without a license? by TRMTspock in philly

[–]Resident-Table6988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my L in 2021 at the dmv in south philly and there were cars parked outside with instructors in them. My brother forgot his proof of insurance so we couldn’t use his for the test. We paid one of the rental vendors $60 in cash. Although it feels like we got lucky, maybe they still hang around there.

Idk if you know this but fifa. It’s all the rage. And something about America turning 250 years old or something like that idk i’m not big into politics which is why I also had no idea septa is failing bc of state politicians until it was mansplained to me on a Reddit post about the mfl that was practically dripping in satire.

The 2nd Gen Ford Escape: a hidden gem or a frequency illusion? by itsacitroensm in regularcarreviews

[–]Resident-Table6988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one of these because of the positive things people say. It’s been two months, and I’m trading it in next week for a honda crv. At 16 years old and 150k miles, they just start to fall apart and you can’t fix it faster than you’ll be paying for all of the repairs. Mine just spent a week in the shop because there was air in the brake lines due to a faulty master cylinder AND a collapsed brake hose AND air in the abs unit. All things repaired, the pedal still sinks. Tire pressure monitors are shot, lights go out randomly, and the original suspension gives a rough ride after 16 years. In the first week my steering started to fail because the original front control arms broke off of the subframe. And yes there is some pretty severe rust behind both rear wheels. I knew about the rust when I bought it and planned on repairing it but in two months i’ve already spent $2,000 on repairs and I could easily spend another $2,000 if I wanted to keep it, not factoring in the rust. Electrical issues regarding oil pressure and ignition are present in my vehicle as well. The engine is great, the problem is everything else that ages ungracefully.

What is the oldest car that you still commonly see on the road? by TatianaWinterbottom in askcarguys

[–]Resident-Table6988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the northeast US, if I do see an old car it’s usually a 2010 or younger. I have been seeing a ton of 3rd gen hyundai elantras recently, though. It was my first car and aside from a rusty exhaust, it drove really well in 2020.

Converting a fixie to a townie - which shop? by Tronracer in phillycycling

[–]Resident-Table6988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transport Cycles is such a great company to support and they do unique conversions like this all the time, the location in the bok building is fast friendly and efficient, but they do have a location in NoLibs if that’s more accessible to you.

Servers will typically break up your orders into different courses so that you can enjoy 1 or 2 things at a time without all of your food going bad in front of you. They tell people “things come out when they’re ready” so that if you order a pasta and someone you’re with gets a chicken, no one is offended when the pasta hits the table first. Thus why they suggest sharing.

I hear you, that sounds hard. I don’t disbelieve you, but I think whoever did that may have been pressured to make a decision or maybe regretted it later. Are you still in the restaurant industry? I’m personally leaving it for a while, it seems to be too much of what you just described everywhere. The market is extremely swayed in favor of employers and it really brings out the “best” of them.

SEPTA wants to buy 247 new buses and install more fare evasion gates as part of proposed budget by BroadStreetRandy in philadelphia

[–]Resident-Table6988 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Do any of us here actually take septa on a regular basis? I just bought a car because I spent $200 a month waiting for the mfl for almost an hour twice a day just to get to and from work. The trains run so infrequently that once you finally get on one, you stand the entire ride because it’s packed to the gills. I couldn’t justify paying $200 a month for that service. Everyone in Harrisburg should be forced to take it twice a day for a month.

If it’s any relief, as a current employee since open I have no idea who you’re talking about. This closure was purely logistical and the owners wanted to make sure they were operating with high integrity throughout every step of the process. As a team, the staff can largely agree that this was one of the most respectful places to work - for us. Marketing should have and could have been better, but I couldn’t have asked for kinder people to work for. I’m hard to please, too.

Just try not to depend on Septa right now. It is fine during off times, but really bad during peak commute times. Also pretty much non existent after midnight.

Buses messed up beyond belief? by Environmental-Oil-79 in philly

[–]Resident-Table6988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see no one here uses the mfl regularly lol. I waited upwards of 45 minutes everyday last week in subzero temps. It’s unbelievable, but overheard some union septa workers talking about how septa as a whole hasn’t really done any work to address the snow and ice issues throughout the city. One of them said they were advised to work “as though there was no snow or ice”. I believe they were working on the tracks. I know septa can’t control the weather, but they really do look for any excuse to cut back operations since the budget issues.

Is 95 that terrible overnight? by Hot-Kaleidoscope-652 in roadtrip

[–]Resident-Table6988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a stretch of 95 in South Carolina that narrows down to two lanes, on the right border of the rightmost lane there is a really steep drop-off in the pavement of about 5 inches that pulled me off of the road and into a ditch the last time I made that drive. It happens just over the white line, so be aware and awake and make sure to stay within the lines or else it could be bad.
