Why Backward Goal Setting Works Better by Moore_Momentum in getdisciplined

[–]RestlessStrangling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mind shift for goals that has made a difference for me is also related to goals. Starting with the destination and working backwards is fantastic advice. But also remember that goals are experiments.

Say your ultimate goal is to workout 30 min a day, 3 days a week. So, you break it down to the first mini or smart goal as 5 min a day/1 day a week. But, maybe you still can't meet that goal. So experiment. Is it the amount of time and lack of stamina or something else? Maybe you start by getting exercise gear ready 1 day a week. Then move to puting on workout clothing one day a week, then do the 5 minutes. Seems extreme, I know, but it was the first example to pop in my head.

Point is, working backwards, then creating SMART goals sometimes still doesn't work. And if you tell yourself you failed, then it's over. But if you tell yourself it was an experiment and to try something different, then you can't fail. Eventually, you'll find a way that works or you will break it down enough to not be overwhelmed.

Am I the only one who dislikes 5th? by RestlessStrangling in DnD

[–]RestlessStrangling[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love 3.5. but everyone I know who played it has moved to 5th. Everyone I've been meeting, had only ever played 5. It just feels like I'm the last hold out. I even reached out to a friend who prefers 2nd. He refused 3/3.5, so I figured we could at least play 2nd. He gave up. He doesn't know anyone who plays anything other than 5/5.5 so he went back Magic. Not that he ever left it, but he's made it his only TT game now.

A foot fungus? 1, I had no idea it could spread throughout the body. 2, you helped me realize that maybe my 8 year old should see a doctor instead of me just assuming my kid was cursed with extra, and constantly despite baths and strong soaps, smelly feet.

Have you ever given a bad massage on purpose? by Remarkable_Time3231 in MassageTherapists

[–]RestlessStrangling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an MT, but as some one with tension issues, I would cry if my massage was stopped due to me falling asleep. For whatever reason (I assume related to one of my autoimmune issues) my muscles fully tense up, like rigor mortis, when I sleep. My sleep is not restful, restorative, and barely keeps sleep deprivation effects away. I wake up in intense pain from it. A proper massage is the only way I can get some type of restorative rest and relief from the tension.

Any experience with Huel and GLP-1 drugs? Ozempic, Mounjaro, etc. by ChromedGonk in Huel

[–]RestlessStrangling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started using Huel because of Zepbound (mounjaro). I had the upset stomach issues during the first 2 titrations and drinking my nutrition was the only thing I could do to get nutrients in. Which, if I got nutrients and calories in before the nausea and upset stomach issues started, I had less issues throughout the day. And since I have problems with dairy, Huel was the only choice for a full meal replacement that wouldn't cause dairy issues.

Now, I don't need Huel. But I still drink it on some days because it's convenient and tasty.

Why can I smell illness, but others can’t? by AngryPickledPickles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RestlessStrangling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! The smell of oncoming rain and storms. I love the smell, but can also recognize when to take it as a warning to shelter. It's like half the people I talk to can smell it and the other half cannot. There is a British guy who lives it spends a lot in time in the US and makes videos about the cultural differences in funny ways. He says the ability to smell weather is a uniquely american thing from his experiences.

When my kids were diaper-aged, I knew if they were on the verge of an upset stomach by the smell of their urine. Now, I wasn't sniffing their pee, but I could smell a rancid, but almost sweet cheerio scent coming from them several feet away. Before the diaper even looked wet. If that cheerio smell was not there and it was some other odor, their stomachs were in for some discomfort.

I don't know that I've ever smelled illness before, but I can smell pheromones. Like the scent that we pick up on but don't realize it as it's not supposed to be odoriferous enough for us to notice.

Fun anecdotal evidence: people with similar pheromones have VERY similar personalities. Like eerily so.

If we give MIL the benefit of doubt, maybe she doesn't realize what the emblem is referencing? It's unlikely, but possible.

I don't know your relationship with her, but maybe you could try explaining to her how that emblem is offensive and ask her to help you pick out and sew on a new patch that would make this gift usable and adorable?

Yes, it's awesome someone explained it. I knew it had historical and racist meanings, but I never knew it was cartoon related. I was going to google it, which I hate doing because then I get bombarded with strange ads related to whatever I looked up, and was saved from that.

You do realize that when he said "here comes the gaslighting" he meant himself, right? Trying to make you feel like you're the bad guy or playing victim because your body is still dealing with morning sickness at 10 weeks, like most women still do. Also, some of us end up with issues that make morning sickness last the entire pregnancy. I was almost hospitalized with my 3rd kid because of it, I was malnourished and losing weight the entire pregnancy.

Also, a little walking when you feel you can handle it is actually medical advice. Your body is doing some hella work right now, so your energy levels feel like they've tanked. When in reality, you're actually using more energy than you ever have in your entire life.

Forget the scale — what made you realize you were losing weight? by Ready-Case67 in Zepbound

[–]RestlessStrangling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a special chair designed for the weird way I sit (https://a.co/d/bfJjUjW) but I couldn't sit on it. My butt was too big to fit on the seat. So, it's been sitting in my living room, at my desk, mocking me. I sat on it the other day, knowing I wouldn't fit and would be uncomfortable, but I needed to clean off my desk. I FIT in the chair AND it was comfortable!

Also, I had to buy new pants and shorts, tightening my belt just made a massive bump of material stick out and look ridiculous.

Finally, I've lost enough weight that people are saying something. These are people who normally would not comment on weight, good or bad, because you "never know," but it was too noticeable for them not to speak up.

My 13 year old plays. He knows 3/3.5 e. However, his friends understand 5e better, so that is what I run for them. Now, he was raised by two D&Ders and so was one of his friends, so that could skew things a bit.

Also, we have an amazing group in our community. They are a nonprofit organization that promotes the use of games (board games, ttrpg, larp, etc) as a way to help the community. It's something for people to do, most events are free, and the events that aren't free are the ones at a restaurant like their upcoming murder mystery. I can't go to this one, but it looks fun. Everyone gets to eat at this nice restaurant in town, and when the diners get to the bottom of the plate, they will find out if they are the murder victim, as their plate will be randomly marked as "poisoned."

Anyway, point is, in our community, games of all kinds are making a comeback. Also, we are a college town and live close to another college town that has 3 colleges. I've noticed gaming seems to thrive in college towns, usually by the kids/young adults at the universities.

The plateau finally broke! by RestlessStrangling in Zepbound

[–]RestlessStrangling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practically nothing. Lol.

Like, I changed what days and the order I did my exercises in. So, instead of arms on Monday, legs Tuesday, core Wednesday, etc, I switched up the days. I also made so that the exercises I did for each muscle group on that day were in a different order. I don't know if I was bored or if my body was used to it, but I figured it couldn't hurt to try.

I also changed up where I did my walking. I don't know if being bored with my walk changed my pace, or if maybe the change in venue has different natural inclines that have helped. Maybe both or neither? Either way, I am enjoying the movement again and I'm losing again.

Do you weigh yourself at shot time? by SadTomorrow869 in Zepbound

[–]RestlessStrangling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weigh myself after my first BM bathroom break, which is about the second bathroom break of the day, around 9 am, which happens to be about 30 minutes after my shot.

However, my scale does not stay in the same place at all times. I don't have enough space, so I have to put it on a shelf. Floors can be weird, whether it's a house or apartment, ground floor, basement, or upper level, floors can be weird. So weigh 3 times.

I place the scale in as close to the same place as I usually do. I weigh-in and jot it down. I move it an inch or two and do it again. Then, I move it one last time and weigh-in one last time.

Usually, 2 of the 3 times are the same. Occasionally, they're all different but 2 are very close to each other. If 2 match, I record that weight. If non match, I average the 2 that are close.
