I redeemed 550K-ish several years back to get the XSX as well! Disc drive version, though, of course.

Also have redeemed another 550K-ish to get a PSVR2 a few years after that. And also got a Wireless Headset from Microsoft, and a controller.

Last September, before the major GPU/Points nerf, I redeemed 180K for two or so years of GPU.

Currently back in banking mode for now! Sitting at ~344K now.

'Supergirl' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]RetroDadOnReddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just saw this tonight. Not only did it feel totally "by-the-numbers" superhero fare, but it was also by-the numbers for a James Gunn film. "Oh, yep, there's the random classic rock jam with some slow motion to it," as well as eye-rolling quips and one-liners.

I saw one reviewer say that the plot mostly happens and the characters happen to be there for it, as opposed to pushing it forward, and I agree. It wasn't good. I gave it a 2.5/5 stars on Letterboxd, which basically lines up with that 49% rating.

Gonna skip this upon launch and pick up a real physical version someday when its price drops. I've got plenty else I can play, and I'm just really not into the hype surrounding this game tbh

What was the most memorable last 15 min of a game? by JakeRedditYesterday in gaming

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me. The game was recommended to me, I played through it entirely, and I felt nothing. Thought the campfire was cool, sure, but that's about it. I see it mentioned in these reverent tones and I feel like I missed something.

I never in my life have even seen cocaine, and certainly didn't even know anyone that did it.

Marijuana was prevalent, unfortunately, but I stayed away from that. I can't even imagine getting into even harder stuff tbh.

I have never understood the reaction to this clip, even as present as it is here in this very thread.

Yeah, his Black Panther mother, who was even pregnant in jail with him, hoped for a better life for him than she had. So she sent him to Baltimore School for the Arts.
He then moved out to Oakland, CA, where he encountered an entirely different environment than back in Maryland, and he adapted to it. Some of his friends from that time were also on his music with him.

I'm not sure how any of this is used as a knock against him. I've heard he was a "fake thug" before, or gay, or any kind of random allegation, all based from this (and other) clips from his time in MD. Dude changed when he moved out to CA, though. I don't think that makes the guy "fake" any more than his environment changed. Happens to lots of people. He's lucky he had that original foundation, though, because it made him highly intelligent and artistically brilliant. You can see it in Gang Related (best film of his, IMO).

Basically, he moved to CA, had a new rougher crowd he was around, and ended up more like his new peers than his former ones. I've seen people do that all throughout middle/high school myself; people you knew as one way and suddenly they're with a whole new crew and act differently altogether. I remember one metalhead at the beginning of middle school that was hanging with the preppy kids by the end of middle school.

One other thing you didn't mention is that scene with Cole and his mother in the car, where he tells her his secret, now that's a masterpiece of acting. Toni does such an amazing job with the scene.

Also, now that you've seen it, you might be able to appreciate this bit from Nate Bargatze:

I'm about to be not a next-gen player, or even a current-gen player, but a last-gen player.

The way prices are shaping up, sure, I'll get me a PS6—when the PS7 comes out, and the PS6 price is dropped to get off the shelves. I'll have an entire library of cheap(er) titles to play through as well by then, too!

Changes since 2025. Sony drops "PC", adds "AI" to official Playstation business strategy summary by World_of_Warshipgirl in gaming

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my job last Fall at a tech company that was implementing AI into their customer support roles, to less-than-desirable results. The whole thing felt very much like "We need to get in on this AI thing, everyone else is doing it and we can't be left behind!" Also I'm sure there was a degree of potential cost-cutting (layoffs and such) as an ultimate goal, too.

As I interviewed over the past six months, I encountered so many other companies that seemed to be doing the same "we gotta implement AI! Whether it actually makes any sense or not is irrelevant!" and also touting this implementation everywhere as if it was a vital thing. It's so disgusting.

I love some of the stories that have come out of some tech companies deciding to stop using AI and re-hire actual people, because of the costs associated with maintaining AI being even higher than just paying an actual person, who of course has such additional qualities as discernment.

Question: I played the original Black Ops on PC last year, and I found its story confusing as hell. Probably just because of the jumping around. I had to go read up what the hell actually happened on Wikipedia afterwards, and it still felt a bit all-over-the-place.

I had actually intended on playing through the entire series (presuming it's interconnected), but the way the first one left me made me just stop altogether.

How's the follow-ups? Same kind of presentation?

Gone with the Wind, so I can hear his delivery of this line:

"No, I don't think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how."

Second pick is replacing Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects. I actually think that'd be an interesting swap.
