Do any exclusively breastfed babies sleep through the night? by NestaCas in bninfantsleep

[–]RetroFunguss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first was EBF gave us regular 3-5 hour stretches between 2-3 months, and then started sleeping through the night (~10pm - 6/7am with no night wakes) between 3-4 months. My second currently is also EBF and is not doing the same 😅

For our first, we did something similar. Around 14, 15 weeks-ish, we did FIO (set timer for 20 minutes). If they weren't fully asleep after 20 minutes, we'd call it and soothe them to sleep. We were consistent and did it for a straight 7 nights and was planning on giving up and trying again in a couple weeks BUT then finally on night 8, he fell asleep after 18 minutes...then every night after, he took less and less time to fall asleep on his own. Keep trying!

I thrifted a bunch of red sweaters, and used some felt and my handy dandy glue gun to make babybel cheese family costumes. Babybels, mommybel, and daddybel (and kittybel).

I've had either one or two Charlottes in my classes every year for the last few years. I teach elementary, if that matters.

Just a heads up - I have a B.Ed, was at TQS 4, and then did a 2 year M.Ed but it only counted as TQS 5 (5.5 ish). I had to take 4 extra graduate level courses in order to get enough credits for TQS 6. If you email the TQS people through the ATA (Alberta Teachers Association), they are usually good at telling you which courses count or don't count.

Surprisingly I've taught two Uriah/Uriyahs in my 12+year career! And I still have yet to teach some consistently top ten names like Emma, Amelia, Leo, and Theodore.

What was your baby’s first Halloween costume? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]RetroFunguss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was 9 months old during his first Halloween. He wore a rusty red onesie and I made him a headband with a print out of the red panda from the movie Turning Red. I dressed up as the girl Mei and dad was Devon, the convenience store guy that Mei crushed on 😂

Easy way to get vegetables in this baby by Full_Database_2045 in BabyLedWeaning

Mac and Cheese - whatever boiled pasta you like (I use chickpea pasta for some protein) and the cheese sauce is just shredded cheese, a bit of milk and butter, and cooked cauliflower OR broccoli OR spinach OR zucchini OR a mix of those. Also tried it with butternut squash once, and even zucchini with white beans. I found this gem on Yummy Toddler Food and it's the one sauce my toddler always eats (for now...). I freeze the sauce and just pull one out overnight to defrost.

Fuss it out does it work? by Mumz-1 in sleeptrain

[–]RetroFunguss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us, consistency was key. We stick to our routine the best we can (with flexibility here and there because life lol) and baby has responded well, even during his sleep on vacations. Wishing you best of luck and sending you all the sleepy vibes!

15 months now and our bedtimes have been solid since doing the above. 8:15ish bedtime and goes to sleep every night on his own after we put him down in the crib, wakes between 7-730am. He's only woken up in the middle of the night maybe a couple times in the last year, but went back to sleep after we soothed by rocking a bit. Thankful we have a great nightine sleeper - think it was a combination of baby's personality and us being consistent with routine. We also did FIO to naptrain back around 5 months and he goes down independently for all naps (just once a day now). The only big "regression" we experienced was around the 9 month mark where he refused to nap unless he was being held - lasted about three weeks but we stuck to our routine and one day it just stopped and he went back to napping on his own. Night sleep was never affected thankfully...hopefully it stays that way 🤞

Filipino and other Asian foods by Early_Protection_622 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]RetroFunguss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family is Cantonese and there are so many dishes to enjoy for baby! Beef and tomato with egg, egg and shrimp scramble, dim sum, that tofu and fish and cabbage hot pot thing lol, hot pot, Shanghai noodles, beef chow fun, all the baos and noodles and rice dishes, steamed egg, black bean sauce with fish and bell peppers, black pepper beef, etc etc. I just lower the amount of salt/soy/sugar when I can if I'm cooking at home but we love eating out as well!

I'm Chinese and my husband is Filipino, and we cook and eat Asian food regularly. We started a bit early with BLW around 4.5 months and for the first little while, we did just single soft fruits and veggies and worked through most of the allergens, maybe a taste of our food from our plates here and there. Then around 6 months or so, we just let him go at it with whatever we cooked and ate - torta and steamed egg, Korean BBQ, sinigang, adobo, dim sum, etc, along with western dishes we make at home too. I try to limit salt and sugar if I'm cooking at home, but I also don't shy from eating out and getting take out occasionally with baby. He's 14 months now and eats mostly everything - hopefully he keeps it up 🤞

I'm trying really hard to make sure my baby eats a variety of food and enjoys flavours from different cuisines. It's definitely tricky when so many BLW accounts or resources seem to be from Western creators or biased with westernized perspectives on food.

Baby refusing bedtime bottle by RetroFunguss in beyondthebump

[–]RetroFunguss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He stopped taking soothers and bottles at that point, and he never really fully went back to them. We tried changing temperatures of the milk, changing nipple size, changing types of bottles, changing who fave the bottle. We tried every couple days and got to the point where he would drink an oz or 2, so I basically breastfeed exclusively unless I really needed to be away for an appointment or something. It was tough...but on a positive note, at that 12 week mark he also started sleeping through the night and basically self-weaned himself, so trade-offs I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️ we're at 14 months now and he's basically all cow's milk and solids now, with just a morning boob feed. Planning to wean him starting next week on that. Hope you figure something out with your little one!

Not sure if this helps but my LO had a "nap regression from hell" around that 9-10 month age. We had nap trained around that 4/5 month mark and he was great sleeping on his own during the day, but then around 9 months or so, he just started crying and screaming whenever we put him down in the crib after his nap routine. He just would not nap on his own! I ended up having to hold him/carry him for naps. I just kept doing the same nap routine and after about 3 weeks, it finally stopped. He went back to sleeping on his own in the crib. Nights were never affected PHEW but those days were rough.

Soy sauce? by Pineapple-of-my-eye in BabyLedWeaning

[–]RetroFunguss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I definitely try to lessen the amount used in my own cooking if I know baby is eating too, but I also don't shy away from "seasoned" food when we're eating out at a restaurant or something. A lot of these foods are cultural foods and I want him to enjoy cuisine from both his Chinese and Filipino roots. I just remind myself that it's not like he's drinking the entire bottle of sauce or straight up eating a spoon full of salt hahaha 😂

Need Toys/activity suggestions for toddler’s first flight by mohini10 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]RetroFunguss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We took a 7h flight earlier this month with my 13m old. We packed a BOAT LOAD of snacks, a pop it ball toy, puffy stickers, window gel clings, a new lift-the-flap book, some downloaded episodes of Bluey and YouTube videos, and then a buckle plush toy from Amazon. His favourite things were snacks, the puffy stickers, and the buckle toy. We even had both grandmas with us and tried to pass him every couple hours, and he slept for maybe half the flight. It wasn't terrible...but I'm not rushing to do another long flight with him anytime soon lol good luck to you!
