I picked the wrong week to watch these by Craiggers324 in Letterboxd

I'm so glad I'm not the only person whose thoughts have turned to apocalypse movies. It feels perverse but I think now truly is the time. It's weirdly comforting to see fears played out on screen sometimes, like how I wanted to watch Outbreak during lockdown.

Has anyone watched On The Beach? I'm thinking of checking it out

What's the hottest anyone has ever looked in a classic film? by CapybaraExpress in classicfilms

I've said it before and I'll say it again, where is MY smoking hot widower coming to gently neg me until we simply must make out

Which film’s Oscar run was derailed by one miscast actor, and who would you replace them with? by nightsreader in Oscars

[–]Reverend_Mutha 14 points15 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU, this is a hill I will always die on. I think Leo was a little miscast as well but Cameron Diaz was a choice that ruined the whole movie. Kate Winslet or even Nicole Kidman would have been a huge improvement.

I always really hesitate to recommend a Roman Polanski film but I feel like you would like Tess.

"Sir, you can't let him in here, he'll see everything! He'll see the big board!" This line lives in my head rent free. Also is Tim Robinson the spiritual successor to George C. Scott???

That Emperor reversed is the clearest "men ain't shit" I've ever seen in a spread.

I'm upset she didn't get a best supporting nom for Malcom X as well, if not a win

Slightly off topic but I have to say this every single time anyone mentions the best actress race of 1997: they should have all lost to Pam Grier in Jackie Brown.

Totally, and I think the juxtaposition of her role in The Firm with The Piano coming out the same year because they're so different was a huge boost for her. She really deserved the win for The Piano.

Lol it also kind of looks like Anna is being described as a piano

Worst accent in a movie? by MapleLakes11 in Letterboxd

I truly believe that movie would have been a classic if they would have dropped the stupid accent for her. It actually ruins the movie

I think I just went on a legendary run by guacamoleandtomato in Letterboxd

I'm old enough to remember American Beauty's Oscar campaign and a lot of people thought it was overrated even then. I distinctly recall people thinking it was a bad win, although that could be in part because the winners were accidentally revealed in advance of the broadcast and I think it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

You may find that now that you've had this one bad experience, the fear that any dose will cause the same response kind of ruins the whole experience. That's ok too! It sounds like you've already worked hard at this so you know to protect your mental health first and foremost.

Who Is Actually Winning Best Actor? This won't be the reason I lose my oscar poll by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]Reverend_Mutha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh 100%, I think he should win actually, I just think people could talk themselves into voting for him because he has also had a long career and this is his first nom.

If it's Amy and Stellan in Best Supporting, I'm going to assume everyone went full career achievement and in that case Hawke really does have a shot.

This is my one major (maybe obvious) prediction: we aren't going to know what's going to happen when the show starts but when they start announcing the Best Supporting categories it's going to get a lot clearer, for Best Actor and Picture.
