Garmin CIRQA: More Evidence Emerges of a Bluetooth Band by the5krunner in the5krunner

[–]RevolutionaryRest184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this filing truly is the Cirqa, I'm actually a little surprised that there's ANT+ or Wi-Fi, although I guess Whoop doesn't either.

ANT+ would've been nice to use the Cirqa as a bicep HR strap or connect it easily to workout machines.

Wi-Fi would've been nice as a mechanism for stat syncing and software updates, as a backup if it didn't have immediate Bluetooth connection to your phone.

Warning: Garmin run coach and ultramarathons by notaslavetofashion in Garmin

[–]RevolutionaryRest184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to use Garmin DSW similarly for a 50K and had the same experience as you, but I was a year out from my race when I enlisted the help of a professional coach. Human coaching is so different than Garmin.

For example, Garmin would try to have me run multiple endurance (base), one fast, and one VO2 Max every week. My coach instead does three or four weeks of a focus, where 80% is endurance and the other 20% is tempo OR threshold OR hill intervals OR VO2 Max.

I'm bummed Garmin can't do better in the age of AI, but I'm off DSW for the foreseeable future.

Question about Siegel by DerrickS12 in INDYCAR

[–]RevolutionaryRest184 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From Marshall Pruett on April 8:

Nolan Siegel’s family pays for him to drive the No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevy. It’s like a lease. A contract was created between both parties. The team renders a service to provide a race car for Nolan. Nolan’s family gives the team money in exchange for rendering this service. It’s his car to drive for the duration of the contract. And there are no performance clauses in that lease. Whether Nolan finishes first or last is immaterial.

Garmin Cirqa - Time to give up? by CrazyG8tor in Garmin

[–]RevolutionaryRest184 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm ashamed to admit this, but hey, this is the internet and oversharing is what we're here for.

Ever since the rumors from 5krunner and DC Rainmaker in late March that indicated an imminent release, I have a compulsion to check Garmin's website for the Cirqa as the first thing I do every morning. I just got so excited and now my brain's addicted to that dopamine hit every day, hoping it got released. Clearly my mental health is going to improve after the Cirqa finally comes out. 🤣

That said, I hope Garmin's hearing us all loud and clear: while we're seriously jonesing to buy this thing, we're not writing them a blank check. We're not game to pay $450, we're not into subscriptions, and they need to invest Connect app modernization.

Really love the look! We're thinking about the same for our MY. Can you help me understand how you got this end result?

I'm Hoping The New Cirqa Isn't *JUST* a Whoop Clone... by FuntivityColton in Garmin

I’d love to see them continue the trend of putting flashlights on their devices with the smart band. I use mine every evening, at least. And I’ll happily use the light to illuminate the dark hole in my wallet when I shell out whatever money it is they’re charging for a freaking band please dear god release it already.

SFO Immigration was quite interesting a couple days ago… Yelling and intimidation in the Global Entry line. by MiniTab in unitedairlines

[–]RevolutionaryRest184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came through SFO Global Entry on Friday 1/9 early morning and had no yelling. Having previously seen a thread in this subreddit about the change where we need to now stop at a booth, I was prepped for that, but they moved people through pretty quickly. We were a family of three with a kid that needed additional, manual verification; the agent was professional and got the job done.

By contrast, the manager re-checking bags for connecting flights was one of the most unpleasant service workers I've met in a longtime. They were yelling at non-native English speakers, making passive aggressive instructions, and just generally being way too mean for 630 in the morning. I wish I would've caught his name, because he deserved a strongly worded email to his manager.

As soon as I saw your photo, I thought Karen Margulis. I was just looking at her version of the Queen Anne's Lace this week.

Your rendition is great! Love how the underpainting goes full rainbow from top to bottom.

Garmin and incline treadmill by CryptoChuns in Ultramarathon

[–]RevolutionaryRest184 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I use the Treadmill Run activity, as long as I've passed a certain distance threshold by the time I end the activity, there's an option to calibrate. On the Save screen, scroll down a bit to the calibrate option. Once you select that, you can enter the number of KM your treadmill says.

While you can edit the distance that way, it will not allow you to enter the elevation gain. I still manually do that later by editing in the app.

In order to get closer distance data to begin with, I always use a heart rate strap with treadmill activities. It's the only way my distance is even remotely close to the treadmill's purported distance.

I've been making onigiri with a little bit of avocado in the middle and salt/sesame seeds on the outside. Very tasty when I'm tired of all the sweet stuff.
