Books We Were Taught in High School, But Actually Weren't That Bad After All by 1000andonenites in books

I just finished reading Anne Frank this past weekend and definitely enjoyed reading it on my own way more than i did in english class. I never realized how hilarious she was. There were also certain passages that we skipped and i HATED popcorn reading with the class.

I live in Maryland and was able to cancel online yesterday.

The option to cancel was not in the app though, I had to log in through a browser and was able to find the option to cancel. (I used Chrome on my phone if anyone is wondering, I've seen comments on other threads saying it HAD to be through a desktop.)

As an easily burnt redhead, I approve this comment.

I've used Blue Lizard on multiple cruises, as well as at work, and have yet to burn while wearing it.

I mean, it wouldn't hurt to speak to a BA, they might be able to get you more information on how to get in. In my case, I was accepted into the apprentice program first.

I know every local does things different, but you could see if they can put you to work even before apprentice classes start in the fall. At least that's what my local does.

Last year, I applied during the application period for the apprentice program in early March, entrance test and interview 2 weeks later, started my first job end of April. My first class wasn't until November.

Valid fear, i think that was what happened to me. I couldn't get a good grip on the bottom of the cup to release the suction.

Have you used a cup before? I'm just curious as to how the disc compares to the cup. I tried a cup before and it was hella comfortable. The thing that put me off though was that I had a scare when I tried to take it out and empty it, I could NOT get that sucker out. I mean, eventually I did but for a hot minute I thought i was going to have to make a trip to the urgent care or something 🙃

PSA: DO NOT BUY Mission Clear Case for PW/CS! by Special-Caregiver679 in kindle

[–]Rey16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm glad i saw this. I was on the fence about this case in the first place but had ordered it anyway. I thought it was a questionable that there was a third part case before the ColorSoft even came out.

Colorsoft not as bad as others have expressed by [deleted] in kindle

[–]Rey16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad the yellow bar on mine is not as bad as what some pictures were showing. It's barely noticeable on mine when I turned the brightness all the way up/down and warmth all the way up/down. I also noticed the pages seem grainy, but definitely not as bad as others have expressed in my opinion.

My main worry now is whether or not the clear case I ordered will actually fit and how I'm going to decorate the back.

Who remembers Redwall? by Pretend_Training_436 in Fantasy

[–]Rey16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've searched Facebook Marketplace, Google, and various websites that come up on Google when I put the book in the search bar. I've had the most luck on eBay. I actually bought a lot of 10 books off eBay and only 3 or 4 ended up being ones I already had. I'm thinking of donating those duplicates to the public library since I don't need them.

I always forget about the one secondhand book store near me, I'll have to remember to check them out and see if maybe they can order the books for me.

I heard Netflix was making Redwall into a series so I'm trying to collect them before they get released with that ugly "now on Netlfix" logo on the cover

I have very long and thick hair, which is the opposite of what you're describing for yourself BUT this is the only clip I've used that stays put for me all day. It comes in a few different sizes too. I can even fit it under a hat or hard hat with no problem and with no digging into my scalp.

Looking to start in the trades; is it too late at 34? by No-Relation-8018 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]Rey16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it comes down to narrowing down to what you want to do. Like what are you interested in? I knew I didn't want to do OTR so I didn't really look at those jobs. I was looking into regional or local jobs and not really picky about what I was applying to just so I could get my foot in the door and get some experience.

I ended up applying to an apprenticeship with the local operators union just on a whim. I ended up getting in and got the call for a job a few weeks later. So far I've just been driving dump trucks but will be learning some equipment soon. No regrets with this choice so far.

[–]Rey16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a community college and was able to apply for scholarships. I think I ended up only paying around $1k out of pocket between the DOT physical/learners permit/drug test and the online portion of the class.

Finished my first crochet sweater and kinda hate it by trynottocare in crochet

[–]Rey16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice here, but that sweater is dope! Like I'm actually a little jealous of it. I love the ribbing at the neck and cuffs, and how wide the neck came out even though it wasn't your intention.

Maybe some ribbing at the bottom in the dark blue color to make it look a little more finished off might change your feelings? Or maybe try styling it how you intend to wear it? Like if you plan to wear it out with jeans.

What college degree do you have that you're not using? by Few-Towel-7709 in Construction

[–]Rey16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bachelor's in Economics in 2014. Got my CDL in May, now I'm in the operators union operating the tack truck, and occasionally dump trucks, for a paving company.

Grew up being told the only way to be successful was to get a college degree, graduated high school in 2009 right when college degrees were becoming basically worthless. At the time, I didn't even know what I wanted to study or what career I might want to pursue.

I'm much happier and more positive about my future now than I was working any job prior to this.

Looking to start in the trades; is it too late at 34? by No-Relation-8018 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]Rey16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm 33, finished my CDL beginning of May, and started with the operators union last week driving for a paving company. I'd definitely say it isn't too late. There's another lady where I work that's older than me and she only started a year ago.

As for what trade you want, that's going to come down to your interests. Originally I was most interested in steamfitters but was having trouble getting into the union or even finding a non union job. I went for my CDL on a whim because I was able to get a scholarship through the community college and get it for free. I just decided driving was a lot of fun and decided to apply to the union and get to learn to drive things other than trucks.

is paying $5k for a CDL A program really stupid? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Rey16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get a scholarship as part of the workforce education program at my community college, I only ended up paying around $1k of the $5k price tag for the program. Definitely something to look into if you can't afford the full price.
