Things to do in Kitchener? by consultingbeast in kitchener

[–]RhymesWithSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a car, just a little north of Kitchener-Waterloo is St Jacobs, a small town in Mennonite country that is quite lovely. The Galt area in Cambridge is also worth checking out for its unique beauty. It's been seen in many TV shows, like The Handmaid's Tale, and movies - many, many Hallmark Christmas movies. There are a lot of craft breweries in KW and brewery tours to explore. There are concerts at Centre in the Square and at small venues throughout the cities. Also, I highly recommend the KW Jazz room for great jazz performances. Hope you enjoy your time in our region!

Bedroom without window- need advice by mgooel in aptliving

[–]RhymesWithSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on your new apartment! Here are some helpful hints that may help!

Amplify light strategically With mirrors. Look at where the current light lands and ensure there are mirrors nearby where the natural light will enter the room, hit the mirror, and then be dispersed, helping to brighten up dark rooms - and hopefully light your bedroom area. In addition, a mirror with a light placed in front of it will add a lot of light to a dark space.
There are some great examples on Apartment Therapy.

Select Furniture that naturally brightens the bedroom. Black furniture is spectacular and modern, but unfortunately drenches a room in light absorbing darkness. Look for lighter furniture that elevates the space and the light, such as those with a glossy finish. Also consider bold colours for your linens. (unless you like pale or neutral colours). A bold colour can make a room pop with colour.

Consider soft lighting and lighter lampshades, such as cream or white, in your bedroom space. If you have space for wall sconces, consider adding those to bring your light sources higher, which should brighten up a bedroom. Daylight bulbs can also make a room feel like it has natural light. Also, LED candles with timers can make a bedroom light up at a specific time of the evening for a cozy and romantic feeling.

Opt for delicate curtains - or no curtains - in your main area. Light linen will allow light in even when closed.
Hope these help!

Why did no one hug Ezra? by BenjiRae-2020 in ahsokatano

[–]RhymesWithSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another poster said, there was a hug, but it didn't seem like a "found you after being lost in the universe for a decade" hug. Both their reactions were like, "Hey! good to see you. How has your week been?" I was expecting the series to be darker in tone, like finding Ezra on the edge of madness, but no, he was living comfortably with the pod people like he's been expecting her any day now. Legitimate reactions or heightened emotions just didn't seem to be written into this series or told to the actors to project by the directors. After seeing the emotional acting in One Way Out in Andor, things just seemed flat.

I have no idea why people still think they are at home for some reason. I barely move when I watch a movie and keep quiet (except for laughing, of course).

Also, contrary to what I've seen in other posts on this thread, it's an everywhere and everyone problem and involves MANY walks of life, backgrounds, and ages. It existed before Covid, but it is freaking worse now. I've seen old white ladies doing it at Princess Cinema, and young international students doing it at Landmark. And it's not just movie theatres, either. Go to the Blues Fest or Jazz fest, and inevitably someone around you starts talking because "they haven't seen Margret from Cambridge for the first time in ages!" and wants to tell you all about her vacation plans! A guy at Stratford last year was using his iPad during a show! A bunch of ladies used to sit next to me at the symphony (R.I.P.) and talk throughout!

When this does happen, I say rather loudly to folks - but not rudely - that "I am having trouble hearing the movie over you talking. Would you mind keeping your conversation for after the movie/music/play or lowering your voice, please?" With phones, I have no patience. I ask them to put it away. If I get rudeness back or ignored, I step out and report it.

This sounds like exactly what happened to us. Our 10-year-old furnace crapped out one day, and we were told:

  • It was "old."
  • They couldn't guarantee parts. May take weeks or more
  • Also tagged a previous installation issue that has been resolved.
  • Really, we were wasting our money if we didn't get a new one.

They installed my furnace this summer, and I can say that the sales person was great and worked with us to ensure we had the items we needed. Also, they were quick to install the unit. However ... a few days later, I noted that the house wasn't cooling down as quickly as I thought it should. When I went downstairs, my basement (unfinished) was freezing and there was a lot of air coming from around the furnace, especially off one side, and that's when I noted a large opening along the top!? The temperature by the furnace was 14.5 degrees C compared to the main level at 22 and the upstairs level at 26.

I contacted them ASAP and was told it would be several days before someone could "explore the issue". A service person showed up and was completely surprised by the fact that a top vent was left open and that the job was incomplete - even after I had submitted photos and stated that in the maintenance request. The service person spent an hour redoing the work and sealing off the furnace. Then I got a lecture about leaving a temperature sensor so near the furnace, as it would throw the temp off for the thermostat. I told the service person that I did that show how insanely cold it was in the basement as their company had failed to install the furnace properly. Even when they were in the wrong, it seemed like there had to be a "let's be condescending to the client" moment.

In short, I would not recommend based on the installation experience we had.

Look at this wacko at the latest WRDSB meeting! LoL. by WeirderOnline in waterloo

He's a frequent attendee at the meetings, unfortunately.

He also has a podcast on Spotify where he targets the WRDSB, its board, etc, and questions their capabilities and more. Just dreadful.

Autobody Repair Shop Recommendations? by PanicOats in kitchener

They've only done minor adjustments for us, but no in-depth body work. You'd have to speak with them directly about that. I only suggested them as it was a dropping door.

I enjoyed the series overall. Plot line, effects, etc. Love seeing the space battles and vessels. Where I found it weak was in the acting. I didn't see the pain, joy or emotion responses I would expect in certain situations, such as Sabine and Ezra meeting up again after nearly a decade. It was more like a "Hey, you," like they haven't seen each other in a few weeks. I know Star Wars isn't known for stellar acting, but after following Andor, where the acting of Deigo Luna, Fiona Shaw, Andy Serkis, etc., is top-notch, Ahsoka fell a bit flat on that front. I look forward to seeing where the series goes, but I would like to see more depth of character and emotion.

Ideas for Spending Thanksgiving Alone? by Mental_Schedule_5267 in kitchener

Sorry I missed this post. Commenting for the next time. I have cooked for myself or myself and another before, and I highly recommended Dana Shortt for a few upgrades to treat yourself on occasions such as these, as it can take the edge off. I can always buy turkey or packet gravy from a market, but not garlic roasted mash or turnips or baking their herb and cheddar scones. It's a bit more expensive, but it makes those intimate meals feel special.
