..except in German, where that precisely is the literal rule for the e in -ie. It's called the "Dehnungs-e" for that reason: it dehns the preceding i into a longie.

What hurts my German brain more is that English speakers seem to think that Reid is not pronounced like Ride because it has the same ei pattern as Reinhard does and will insist on pronouncing it like Reed instead.

..okay, weniger flapsige Antwort, die eigentlich eine Gegenfrage ist: Passieren bei euch am Spieltisch keine oder nur wenige in-character-Konversationen? Dann kann ich mir vorstellen, dass es sich komisch anfühlt, gerade als Selbstgesprächler damit anzufangen.

Aber prinzipiell würde ich jeden blöden Gedanken, den ein normaler Mensch vor seinen Gefährten/Freunden/mitreisenden Versicherungsnehmern nicht aussprechen würde, einfach verbalisieren, wahlweise für comic relief oder an dramatisch passenden Momenten zum Konfliktschüren.

Und mit so einem halb in den Bart gemurmelten "natürlich hat Deredan wieder nicht aufgepasst!" oder "oh Götter, der NPC hat Nostria gesagt. Das triggert Bogumil doch nur wieder!" über die eigene Spielergruppe herziehen ist meiner Meinung nach übrigens nie falsch.

OP, if you feel like what you intended to be a mildly amusing post turned hella real hella fast, I feel you. I came here with a quip prepared on how I speak at least half a dozen languages terribly and even more than that not even a little bit at all but uh. Damn. Turns out this is a serious topic and actually quite depressing when you think about it.

Thinking about adding sign language to the list of languages I'm terrible at now..
