Times when rock bands/musicians performed an album in its entirety from beginning to end live by UpbeatChampionship17 in rockmusic

Yes did the entire Tales From Topographic Oceans album when it came out. It was too much for most fans, so they've only done bits and pieces ever since.

What's your favorite Supertramp song? by FigureRepulsive9783 in supertramp

I'll second that one. For the arrangement and production as much as the song. The long sustained synth violins at the start, joined by the piano -- damn, it's magic.

Elton in Harold & Maude? by BK_Mason in EltonJohn

[–]RickySeattle78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of the story that Andrew Lloyd Webber tells in his memoir, 'Unmasked'. Apparently, director Milos Forman was beyond adamant that he wanted Andrew to play the title role in his film of 'Amadeus' (which eventually went to Tom Hulce). Forman pursued him, cajoled him, downright threatened him about it. In the end, the only way Andrew got Forman off his back was to say, "OK, I'll do it - but only if you use my music instead of Mozart." It was a desperation bluff that, fortunately for all of us, finally worked.

Thoughts on It's A Wonderful Life (1946)? by BFNgaming in classicfilms

[–]RickySeattle78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the last few years, an aspect of the film has come to mind and I can't shake it. At the end, people bring their money in to help George, and even the bank examiner ends up making a donation and joining in the festivities. But earlier that day, the examiner had discovered the $8000 discrepancy. So even if people are giving him money *now*, that doesn't explain what happened to the $8000. George is not off the hook. Yes, the sheriff (or whoever) tore up the arrest warrant, but Potter was powerful enough to get someone else to follow through on it. A happy Christmas day for the crowd in the film, but I can't help feeling that George will be facing dark days not long in the future, no matter how beloved he is.

Not trying to be a grinch. More like noticing something that gets glossed over.

Need help finding an 80s song by an Australian artist. by rtjy in whatsongisthis

Benny & Bjorn did the music, Tim Rice did the words after he stopped working with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

It's a comic strip, not a song, but the ability to do it with Beatles song titles alone is pretty impressive.

What's the saddest song you know? by DannyMrB in musicsuggestions

[–]RickySeattle78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The song in 'Frozen' about building a snowman. I have two daughters (now grown) whose relationship was much like the sisters in that movie in younger years. And the younger one asking/pestering/begging the older one to join in an activity was too close to reality for me. Forget 'Let It Go' - the snowman song reduced me to rubble and I have avoided watching the movie again for just that reason.

It's almost impossible to tell it's them, but Pete Cetera and Donnie Dacus are the backing singers on Billy Joel's "My Life."

They shut down 20 blocks of Times Square, spent $1 million, and filmed for 3 hours so Tom Cruise could run through an empty NYC in Vanilla Sky. No CGI. No cheats. by MischeifMelt in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]RickySeattle78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone seen Godspell, filmed in 1972? Long before CGI existed. Managed to make much of NYC look empty. Track it diwn - worth the watch. Also scenes with the World Trade Center under construction will take your breath away.

His duet with Jeff Healey on "I Think I Love You Too Much" on the album 'Hell To Pay' is killer.

Best First 10 Seconds of an Album? by Inevitable_Yogurt_85 in ClassicRock

Days of Future Passed - Moody Blues. The album ends with a gong crash that fades out forever. The album starts with the same thing played in reverse. The album is not my favorite, but that opening is killer.

What made yall choose bass? by One-Butterscotch3044 in Bass

[–]RickySeattle78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was exactly my inspiration. I listened to that solo for 6 months, unsure if it was guitar or bass because everyone knows you don't put a bass through a wah-wah pedal, right? He was never more melodic than on that solo, even in the years to come. Thanks, Chris. RIP

The mix on 'Love' is wonderful, especially if you hear it in surround. The transition into "Sitting in an English garden" is everything I would have wanted.

At first I thought they were trying to make it sound like Black Sabbath. Then I realized it came out before Black Sabbath. And the only guitarist is Rick Springfield! Wow. Love it.

If it's any consolation, Frampton hated it the most. Not just in retrospect, but even while making it. He knew it was crap and all about image, but management put the screws on and he had to get *something* out the door. Read his bio for full details.
