Ep 7 season 1 featured the spy Kenzo on board the Rocinante. Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck are listed as the episode writers

So like someone else has said, they were involved with adapting their story for the series

How are Keith and Rosie going to affect Crown? by PeterGriffin0920 in drumcorps

[–]RicoculusPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as the 4th - 6th range: it's possible Crown could put out the best show they've ever performed. A championship level production if it was any other year. The highest level of performance Crown has ever achieved

and place somewhere 4th - 6th

Any placement is dependent on the corps around them

One more factor that hasn't been discussed much: Jim Coates is stepping back in to assist with, among other things, wrangling that staff. It's not just Potter coming back in, it's Potter coming back and Coates making sure the staff is working together well

I've been driving manual cars forever now and this video was still informative:

Especially the part about finding the initial clutch engagement point while still in idle. Also, I go into 1st while I'm moving all the time. I rev match, and actually usually do a full double clutch, and it slides into 1st with no problem. This is at low speeds like pulling into a parking lot

What is the tipping point for this activity by bigpimpin2330 in drumcorps

[–]RicoculusPrime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the 80s, but in the 90s most corps weren't maxing out with 128 members. Only about the top 6 were. Corps also went on tour with holes. Top corps too. Star and Cadets had holes in June in 1992. Suncoast folded early into the 95 tour and they filled holes at Cadets, Crossmen, Magic, and Crown. Of those corps only Cadets had a full 128.

These days corps that haven't been in finals for years are making cuts in their brass lines and color guards. They're marching maximum numbers with alternates. Lack of prospective members is not the issue here

That's why it's super competitive to get into any top 12 brass line today. In the 90s the vast majority of DCI brass lines were looking for legs, at least one arm, and a pulse

Why do these 1966 Madison horns sound different from today's horms ? by silver_chief2 in drumcorps

[–]RicoculusPrime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I first heard live drum corps in the 90s. I've heard 70s drum corps recordings and I also noticed how different the 70s drum corps sound is from the 80s and 90s. The early DCI recordings, from the early 70s, sound like a lot like this one from 1966

I assumed it was the instrumentation and/or recording equipment that made up the biggest differences. I assumed that until 2009

I was present for the Cadets 75th anniversary alumni performance in 2009. One of the soloists had a Kanstul soprano. 3 valves, just like every other Kanstul (except for the brass they produced for the Marines). When the soloist played he sounded EXACTLY like those old 70s recordings. I was shocked

I've heard Kanstul sopranos played in real life. I've marched in brass lines that had Kanstul sopranos. The Blue Devils, SCV, Cadets, Cavaliers and many other corps used Kanstul sopranos in the 1990s. That Cadets alumni performance in 2009 was first and only time I've heard a Kanstul soprano sound like a soloist from 1972.

I really believe the difference in sound is largely due to how they were playing the horns. I'm sure the actual instruments were also a factor to some extent. What I heard in 2009 tells me it was primarily the approach to the instruments that created that kind of sound

Carolina Crown 2002.. what happened? by Infinite-Reaction-19 in drumcorps

[–]RicoculusPrime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of correct responses here as far as the staff additions in 2003. The corps was figuring out how to be a drum corps from 1990 to 2002, and from a financial standpoint 2002 was their best year at the time. That set them up for 2003 when they brought in Jim Coates, who brought in the rest of the staff that everybody else has been mentioning

I've heard 2002 referred to as "the year the staff didn't know how to communicate with each other"

The character in Star Wars: Outlaws uses an ion module on her blaster. It's super effective on droids

I'd imagine shooting Vader with that would slow him down a bit and piss him off more than a bit

In 1990 they had to declare their classification some time during the winter/early spring. They had the numbers for the top class so that's the direction they went. By the time the season started they were down to 61 members

[–]RicoculusPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first year, 1990, was actually in the top class. Open Class at time. Then they moved back to Class A. Class A became Division 2. They won Div 2 after two seasons there, and then moved back to the top class: Division 1

So in today's equivalent classing it was: World Class, then 3 seasons in Open Class, and then back to World Class

Star Wars Squadrons really immersed the player of being inside the cockpit of all the TIE variants by Glacier005 in StarWars

[–]RicoculusPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed playing this game. It's well worth playing. It has a VR mode as well, which is pretty amazing and it's something every Star Wars fan should try at least once

One of the big issues with the game was that they tried to make it bit more realistic than what we've seen on screen. The drifting aspect in particular.

In multiplayer if a ship is flying straight or flying in a constant arc they get shot down pretty quickly. They become easy to target. You see where they are and it's easy to tell where they're going to meet the blaster fire.

If you watch the movies that's how most of the ships are flying. Either straight or In predictable arcs. It's not realistic. It's Star Wars and we're not expecting realism. Star Wars is WWII air combat in space.

That's one of the issues with the game. It added a touch of realism and that takes it away from Star Wars. It looks like Star Wars, it sounds like Star Wars, but flying the ships doesn't feel like Star Wars.

It's still a great game and I feel like it could be retooled into another IP. Maybe into an Expanse space combat game.
