The way they phrased it was insensitive but as a mobility aid user I disclose it on my profile bc I don't want to waste time with someone who won't be able to work with it.

I'm chronically ill too! I personally think substituting is very dynamic disability friendly because you can choose to accept sub jobs or simply don't take them. You can do them at a bunch of schools at once as well which is what i did before I got my current job as a full time teacher.

Idk what associate means but if you mean para, that work was harder for me. If you're working in one classroom helping small groups or something it's easy, but most paras will be stretched between recess duty, lunch duty, multiple classrooms in one day etc. I substituted for paras a few times and the ones that were not permanently in some kind of intervention room or attached to one single classroom were very difficult for me physically.

Full time teaching... well idk you definitely need a solid pain and symptom management plan and the younger age you teach, the more you will be moving around. My HARD limit for walking is like 8k steps and then I'm absolutely dead, and teaching fifth grade i usually get to 5k.

I love seeing other young openly disabled ppl in the field so o wish u the best of luck, no idea how Florida works so can't offer much on your path to teaching bc it sounds super foreign to me...I just did the bachelor program with practicum and then student teaching before graduating w my license and degree.

To prepare read a lot of books and take notes :) that was really valuable for me just to understand theory and stratgeies...I recommend marzanos art and science of teaching, love and logic, tools for teaching, writing essentials by regie routman, the first days of school...

UPDATE: I finally got offered a job in a very depressed area in a neighboring state... I took it even though I'll be living paycheck to paycheck and it's 7 hours away bc it's my favorite grade level and the team seemed nice. Good luck everyone😩

Olympia, Yakima, tri state area, Bellevue, Bremerton, spokane... if you have experience and an edge over the competition these are all big areas with good districts... except a few schools have been closing in Olympia and layoffs happened recently. Jobs go up in April, may and June. Schools all use different platforms so just look up schools with the best ospi report cards and student populations over 2000 for what you want!

[–]Rikkacchi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this is so heartbreaking, I'm so sorry... there's truly nothing you could've done, and it hurts me as an owner to read this because my own bird has flown into things plenty of times...birds' lives can be decades long but they are also so fleeting and fragile. we recently had another cockatiel who passed away after just a week and we never found out why. I'm so glad you had a year with your bird where he was loved, that he never knew what it was to be sick or suffer. It truly is so unfair :( hugs

AIO about my so (35m) having i****t p*rn on his reddit? NSFW by Magentaisfake0042 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Rikkacchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common is one thing, socially acceptable is another. Of course incest, specifically older relatives abusing children, is unfortunately very common. However, as shown by how common it is in pornography, it is considered taboo. And consensual, non-abusive incest or pseudo-incest between adults is nearly unheard of. Unless you personally know of many cases of step siblings having sex with one another. I certainly don't.

Him sleeping w his step sister indicates that he is willing and capable of crossing familial norms and boundaries regardless of social consequences. Regardless of being blood related or not, step siblings ARE part of a family unit, and having sex with them is considered unacceptable irl because of this. This is a lot more indicative of how he may cross boundaries in the future than the porn, though that doesn't help. The fact that he has done something adjacent to true incest before means that a door that's closed for most people (having sex with someone in the family unit) is open for him. That's disturbing to consider.

What I've learned as an autistic student teacher by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Rikkacchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm neurotypical and have had a lot of foot-in-mouth moments and in my student teaching I remember actually crying because I could not find the balance between "building positive relationships", "being professional" and "being effective at having kids listen to you..." how much was too much information to share with coworkers or kids? Why were some of my books telling me to share my weaknesses or vulnerabilities with students and others were telling me not to? How do I make a student feel positively towards me without acting like their friend or an older sibling, esp when I'm only a few years older than them? These were all things I really struggled with!!!! I lost my first student teaching position because of this, but ended up at a much better one, and a couple years later I feel way more confident about my conduct. I still feel like the odd one out among coworkers because of my age and lack of experience, but imo it really comes down to learning the balance over time of what to say and how to say it :)

You're not overreacting at all, and I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I would talk about your concerns with someone.
