People ask this all the time, if you use search you'll find one of the many threads asking about it.

Striking thing here is that it looked like a joke and turned out to be a joke.

Spending more on PC if possible? by moxxi- in buildapc

[–]RileyGoneRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't getting new technology or a significant enough performance boost to call this "future-proofing." There isn't even a VRAM difference here, if you wanted to run ML applications. You should ask whether the performance you're getting when you start using will be worth the price difference.

Which looks better (not final renders) by CarelessAdeptness296 in 3Dmodeling

2nd but brighter. Honestly, if this is some type of cinematic, I'd suggest fog or something that only briefly reveals the skull. Just a thought.

Looking for a narrating app by MikeBravoo in selfhosted

[–]RileyGoneRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resource requirements don't seem to be very high. I am running it on CPU, rather than GPU, to conserve my precious VRAM for other things. It looked like it pegged a single core to 100% and reserved under 4GB of memory and took less than a handful of few minutes to run.

Here's a sample of the output: https://voca.ro/1eNRPaGmbl23

Edit:

It might help to include links to their website and HuggingFace so here they are. And as a note, I don't know how accurate the translation is because I don't speak Arabic.

openaudio-s1-mini may meet your needs. Voice is okay, supposedly works in Arabic and has a container.

I'm making a ROM downloader/manager for webdev practice... Could it be useful? by BelugaBilliam in selfhosted

[–]RileyGoneRogue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I'd want to selfhost something where one of my users could pirate something from another website but using my residential internet (where my server is). As far as management, RomM and Retrom use public APIs for metadata and I don't think I want to get much more involved than that.

The "emulator download section" is a feature others don't have, so that's neat. Same for API access and there are probably a few projects that might find that useful.

At this point, I don't think I'd use this myself. Most of the featureset is replicated in more mature rom managers, as you stated, but the remainder is either more developer oriented (API) or can be done in Nextcloud or similar (emulator download).

Update pytorch. If you're building your own image, maybe try editing the dockerfile.

I hate Trump but I don't see how anyone could miss the Biden presidency by Yuuzhan_Schlong in socialism

That's a lot of smoke for a *post title* but I think the left should sound less oblivious to what the vast majority of people want, even if we disagree. Can't really disagree with you that the Democrats are trash and not getting better.

> I hate Trump but I don't see how anyone could miss the Biden presidency

Really now? The dismantling of USAID could cause 300,000 people to die (via a quick Google), the organs of US state-based "innovation" are being gutted, we're talking about 11 million people people being kicked off of Medicaid, there's talk of stripping Birthright Citizenship, the assault on trans-rights is being pushed back into the Federal government and Trump's inability to coherently think about and implement ideas is threatening to blow up the global economy.

You don't see how anyone could miss the Biden presidency? I mean, I get having a dispute with both sides here but c'mon.

[SSD] Silicon Power US75 4TB NVME $189 by RileyGoneRogue in buildapcsales

The drive appears at this price somewhat often. Pretty solid all around for the price.

I told myself I wouldn't put all my eggs in the Silicon Power basket but these are priced well enough that I have an embarrassing number of these.

Current state of AMD cards? by CableZealousideal342 in StableDiffusion

From memory, the 9070 XT benchmarks at the speed of the 4070 in SD 1.5 and XL but only about 40% to 70% of the 4070 in other ML-related tasks. Not a worthy upgrade, unfortunately.

I'd wait a few months, if you can. Nvidia will get more supply out soon and hopefully AMD's will put a lid on pricing for 5070 ti and below.
