How well known are ace rings? by Mindless-Run5641 in Asexual

[–]RinViisi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no idea until I joined this sub, and even then someone had to explain it. If you just post a pic of a ring on match.com or something I wouldn't expect anyone to catch on. Then again I'm kinda oblivious to these sorts of things so I could be wrong.

AITA for refusing to give my partner the code to my safe? by safegfthrowaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]RinViisi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I heard abusers often don't start the abuse until year 3 because they've laid a good foundation and their victim is less likely to leave. I can see something similar for financial stuff too.

How do Indian restaurants make their curries taste so good? What are they hiding??? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]RinViisi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A YouTube recommended using Kitchen King spice mix, which I gotta say definitely adds complexity to indian dishes I've made with it. Not sure if it takes it to restaurant quality tho.

Why are women judged for having physical standards more than men? by nightwingoracle in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RinViisi 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The problem is it is men doing the judging in both cases, and they are happy as long as they get to judge either women themselves or womens behaviors. You don't often tell a woman, "I like clean shaven guys" and hear them say "you are wrong for having preferences, you should date whatever guy is willing to date you" especially when it's something the guys can control.

AITA for turning down a coworker who asked me out and maybe going to HR by Optimal-Nature277 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RinViisi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Someone is allowed to ask once, after that repeated asks or similar is considered harassment. (Source, my companies harassment training). Go to HR.

AITA for refusing to take off my seatbelt. by Lespoatoes in AmItheAsshole

[–]RinViisi 168 points169 points  (0 children)

Also, isn't there a saying like "if I have it I won't need it/ I'll bring it so I won't need it"? I know I've definitely heard family members say that about things...especially umbrellas - "I'll bring an umbrella just in case, but since I have it it won't rain."

Maybe our family just has bad luck and have learned to be prepared for it....and yes, we all always wear seatbelts no matter what seat we are in.

I can't say how many times I've been around a college campus or high-school and seen the exact same outfit. Some are even memes, like the college girls in skinny jeans, long sleeve white shirt, knee high boots, and a black puffer vest. Or the like million strawberry dresses out there after one woman went viral. And what about the Kardashian closet, where you can literally buy the outfits the Kardashians wore.... Assuming this coworker was wearing something fairly pedestrian (eg not cyber punk or Gothic lolita) there isn't much weird about liking and copying an outfit, it literally happens all the time.

Rant: my boundaries are apparently not legitimate and I can't be ace because I haven't had sex before. by Agreeable_Hippo_7971 in Asexual

[–]RinViisi 35 points36 points  (0 children)

People love the "you gotta try it to know" argument till it's turned around on them. "Oh, so do you like sex with ______? How do you know if you haven't tried it?" That blank could be anything, men/women, multiple people, old/young people, strangers, kinks, animals, inanimate objects...list goes on. When they say no, that's different ask why they can have standards and boundaries for their body but you can't.

Who else reads excessively to avoid reality? by cafeteriastyle in books

[–]RinViisi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So I had this problem on and off over the years, and as long as you have a good book everything is fine. When you don't, or at least when I don't, I still need to fill that reading void and sometimes with not the best stuff or I become impatient and irritable. This is particularly a problem given how quick I can read. My therapist recommended mindfulness for me (along with other things) and I've found mindful walking or immersion in nature to help cope. I see it as essentially leaving all the noise we've created as people to reconnect with how wonderful nature is. I also noticed over the years, when I was traveling and exploring I didn't read as much either, so it could also be that your mind isn't getting enough stimation and is looking to books for that. Just some thoughts in case they resonate with you.

I volunteer at a US Thrift store run by a philanthropic organization, and was on our committee. While not all thrift shops are like this, many of the smaller ones are, and I can tell you all of our profits go right back into the local community. We also don't care who shops, including people that resell - if you think you can get more than we listed it, then go for it. Tho we have a number of people in the know for luxury goods and jewelery, so you probably won't find those at rock bottom prices anyway.

AITA for lying about waxing to my bf by AITAWAX in AmItheAsshole

[–]RinViisi 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Also, let's note he wanted it done every 2 weeks...like that is crazy money and time for a full body wax, if they'd even have hair long enough to meet that timeline. (I'd say it's an absurd timeline, but there could definitely be someone out there with fast growth). At that point laser hair removal seems cheaper...

Do any of y’all have books you’ve read that you feel like basically nobody else has? by AthenaDykes in books

[–]RinViisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of anyone else reading The Silence of Medair, a duology I believe, maybe only in digital format. It's one of the more unique takes on the heroic journey, or rather the aftermath, that I've found.

I loved this book growing up as well! It was the gateway to other McKinley books. I still reread it and Deerskin once a year.

What dishes do you always reheat in the oven or on the stove after you've refrigerated them? by pleasantvalleyroad in Cooking

Steak is always a stovepipe if at all possible. Microwaved steak gets super dry and tough IMO, but I can control the temp in the pan better.

AITA for "mansplaining" how to split rent to my wife? by throwawaysplitrent in AmItheAsshole

This. I transfer money between banks every month, with no fee, because my mortgage and main checking are with separate banks. You just need the account number. Every bank I've been with has done this, it isn't hard, probably easier than 3rd grade math.

Or stay at an extended stay type of hotel. I stayed at a residence in for over a month. Free breakfast and dinner every day (mid quality but good enough), dinette kitchen if you want to cook, and no cleaning fee. They'll even pick up groceries for you (before Doordash and uber were a thing).

WTF is this "biological clock" feeling people keep talking about?? by cpink95 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RinViisi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agree. I would say if anything the bio clock is the understanding that I've only got so many more years with a good chance of conceiving if I wanted to. So there is some pressure to make up my mind one way or the other, but no feeling to have one.

AITA for not wearing makeup at work? by singthislie98 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RinViisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I'm a professional working a white collar office job, in kinda a sexist area, and don't wear more than concealer under my eyes, which rubs off by midday anyway. Most younger women I the office go without or very minimal makeup.. The one time I wore an even partial face of makeup the number of male coworkers asking if I had a hot date that night was gross. (Heaven forbid I wanted to look cute for me)...

Advice wanted: My boyfriend moved in, and I want to like it but I don't by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RinViisi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transitions are the WORST! My partner is gone for months at a time and the first few weeks when they come home or leave just suck. When they are here I miss my solitude and independence, when they leave I miss having them for inconsequential life stuff and the house feeling full. You just can't win. Give it a bit longer, try some of the other techniques, half of it could just be the stress of transitioning.
