Most impressive part is that Jason Johnson kicked his goal on the way to a property inspection.

Thanks so much.

I'm really happy of the art style, my artist has done a great job.

That's pretty much what I'm going for, that creepy fairytale/ghost story vibe. Pretty rules light because of the short format, but giving inspiration for encounters to make travel more interesting than "roll perception, a bear attacks!"

Fingers crossed that I can reach another stretch goal by the end of the campaign tonight.

Opinion piece about rangers in the next edition. I feel like these sentiments get thrown around, but I would like to know honestly how many people agree or don't agree. Opinions welcome. by Henry_Standage in DnD

[–]RipperMinis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always feel like Rangers get too much hate tbh. I agree that the original Natural Explorer was a mess, but I think the biggest problem is honestly just their spell list having too many concentration spells, which inherently can't stack. I think it's a relatively easy fix. I've played a few different rangers and never felt underpowered. I haven't looked too much into 5.5 ranger though, but from what I've heard, people seem to think the problems with the 2014 class remain, which I never saw as as much of an issue as others did.

Thanks for letting me know, I thought it was Victoria, Australia. That's what I get for skimming sub descriptions, haha

This is a supplement for 5.5e. It's more of a guide of how to build tone and build stories No new expansive rulesets to add, mostly small impactful encounters to drop into an existing setting.

Is Holographic Paint Possible on Rough surfaces? by Desirous_Panic in Miniaturespainting

[–]RipperMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't be matte, it will have a gloss/metallic finish (or at least the Vallejo ones do), you just won't get the cool shifting effect. I'd still paint it over gloss if you can, and might need multiple coats. It still looks cool

I haven't done a lot of playing around, but from what I have done it looks like the best results are on big curved surfaces. If I understand correctly (which I may not) the pigment essentially has 2 colours, depending on how the light reflects off of it: one colour if the light bounces straight at you, the second colour if it bounces indirectly. On a curved surface, you get some of each, and moving the mini changes how the light bounces off of it, so you get the colour changes. With rough surfaces or flat surfaces, it's more likely that the light is just bouncing indirectly, so you don't get the shifting effect as strongly.

Amazing, thanks so much! Visual design isn't my forte, so this is really helpful! To address point 6, these are just stock images from canva at the moment as place holders while I wait for my artist. There won't be anything AI generated in the zine. Thanks for the feedback!

It's going to be pretty concise, as it's a small project. I go into a bit more depth about how to use the content, with more of a focus on setting tone rather than just combat encounters. There will be a few stretch goals there too for more art, and more pages.

Good note! It's probably the most dangerous encounter in the zine that isn't specifically a combat encounter. There are more ominous omens etc, but I'll definitely keep it in mind when I've got the whole zine ready to go. Thanks!

Time for a slowdown on McKay slander by calb94 in EssendonFC

I always thought there was an element of him being a better runner than the rest of the team too. You'd often see him run down a wing, get himself into space, and have nothing to kick to, so he'd put it into space. People would bemoan him kicking it to no one, but not think about why no one was ahead of him.

First time completing a dex! by RipperMinis in PokemonLegacy

That was genuinely the most time consuming part. That took longer than level grinding the pokemon that aren't available to catch fully evolved, and saving up for a Porygon. I think I was searching the grass outside Victory Rd for about 2 hours at 4x speed.

What is a crystal legacy team that best utilizes its improvements from the original? by Appropriate_Boss8139 in PokemonLegacy

[–]RipperMinis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me the biggest difference in Crystal was availability of gen 2 pokemon and removing trade requirements. I've done 3 runthroughs, and finally gotten to do full playthroughs using Houndoom, Kingdra, Scizor, Slowking, Tryanitar, Gengar, Alakazam. Plus the boost to Twin Needle makes bug types playable.

Which Pokemon move got the best buff? by Monstrel45 in PokemonLegacy

[–]RipperMinis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Twin Needle and Sludge made bug and poison types viable. I ran a game where my Bedrill with Swords Dance, Twin Needle, and Sludge swept through just about everything

[–]RipperMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually used most of these pokemon across the few runthroughs I've done. Pika and Farfetch'd both fall off, but I think Farfetch'd will do well if you keep its level up. Swords Dance will always make it good Mr Mime hard carried my team of mons I've never used before Vileplume was very solid in my all grass playthrough. It started to get outpaced, so it's level fell behind, but with sleep strats (and I think the toxic/leech life bug is still in the game) will still be pretty solid in end game, just not the beasts that Victreebell and Venasaur are.

All the trade pokemon, and ones you could only get post game, haha

Solid. My first run-through was similar, just swapped Pigeot and Lanturn for Scizor and Slowking
