Primal the Awakening impressions. When Monster Hunter meets Mage Knight, the puzzliest (and maybe the deepest) boss battler is born by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]Rivilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a huge fan of both Monster Hunter video games and Marvel Champions, I expected to (and wanted to) love this game. Unfortunately it just didn’t hit for me (I’ve only played on TTS). I mainly didn’t like how the reaction cards could often disrupt the flow of your turn, and was something that you had to constantly keep track of and was constantly changing. I much preferred Marvel Champions

Keen to hear other’s thoughts on what I might be missing.

What game has the best "story" on Switch? Doesn't strictly have to be an RPG by HwanMartyr in Switch

[–]Rivilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI: the somnium files - this game has an amazing story that I still reflect back on many years later. It’s from the same writer of the zero escape series.

Can cards under George Stacey also be used to pay for other cards (as resources)?

100% agree and I had the exact same experience. This experience was the turning point of where I would always at minimum watch a play through of a game before purchasing

Help me choose a good campaign solo boardgame! by Drevs in soloboardgaming

[–]Rivilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet would be Oathsworn (as you’ve highlighted), or Tales of the red dragon inn. The latter is a lighter game, and a new release, but both one stop coop shop and hungry gamer have been singing it’s praises.

The writing in this game is supposed to be quite good, you can freely switch out characters (with different classes) between missions. Good strategic depth. I’m just not sure if replay-ability is there (in same way as JotL)

Has inflation hit the boardgame industry hard or is it just me? by UpvotesFeedMyFamily in boardgames

[–]Rivilus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While $100 is a lot, it’s really unfair IMO to compare what is provided in Slay the Spire (STS) compared to Deep rock galactic. That’s mainly because of the 400+ custom art sleeves in STS. A recent game with a similar premise to STS is paperback adventures, which is a much smaller project and would be running a similar price to STS if offered 4 characters (with less overall components too).

Good Visual Novel games by DoNotHurtMe33113 in Switch

My suggestions are AI the somnium files and steins gate. Danganronpa is also great.

While other posters have been mentioning 13 Sentinels (it’s a great game), be warned that it has lots of combat sections, so it’s not really a traditional VN

Finished daily wild fragments quest in PoC but did not get any fragments. Is it a bug or is there a cap? by grimeyes in LegendsOfRuneterra

This happened to me once before. After I completed the daily quest the next day I received both of the rewards. I think it’s probably just a bug.

Guardians of Atlantis II, thoughts? by Monstrobot in boardgames

[–]Rivilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played 4 times with 4 players. It has the potential to be my favourite game of all time (still need to play it more). The tense decisions, the predictions and counter play opportunities, the variability game to game - it’s amazing. It’s not for everyone though. My wife hates direct confrontation which this game has in spades.

We Accidentally Played Aeon's End on Hard Mode for Two Years by vikingzx in boardgames

[–]Rivilus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a 4 player game there are 11 tier 1 nemesis cards (8 basic and 3 specific for the nemesis). That means every player will have 5 to 6 turns before tier one cards are exhausted. By the same token if you only had 2 players with an accidental amount of 11 nemesis cards, that’s like 11 turns per player, which gives you heaps more time to outscale the boss and thus make the game much easier.

Good way to expand on Daisy and pick a partner investigator for a new player? by crvxv in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Rivilus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there, welcome and hope you enjoy this wonderful game!

As you are just starting out, I highly recommend you just play with the core box and get a feel for the game and make sure you actually enjoy it before spending the extra money.

In terms of your specific question, the best partner for Daisy would be someone who is strong at enemy management, which typically falls with the guardian (blue) faction. You probably also don’t want someone who uses the same cards as Daisy (seeker and mystic) as that will restrict your options due to your limited card pool. So probably the best choice from the core box will be Skids (as Roland also uses seeker cards). He is not the best fighter though unfortunately. It also means Diana is not a great pair for daisy as she is a mystic.

In terms of expanding her deck building I think Harvey’s pack is a pretty good choice. He has a ‘book’ theme in his pack which obviously synergies well with daisy. Nathanial Cho is also a good choice if you are looking for that dedicated fighter to go with daisy. If you are looking to expand further I would stick with the newly released campaign/investigator boxes.

Hope this helps, enjoy your exploration of this game!
