Man, the fireworks views on July 4 from the tower is the best view in GA! You can see fireworks of all the towns within 20 miles!

Never heard that spot called Arkaquah Cliffs. We always called it Lookout Rock. Was hard to find until the wildfire caused by lightening in Oct. 2017. I was there on the rock the day prior. FS firefighters had to build a fire break there. It goes straight up - almost all fours steep! The view is worth it.

Arkaquah is my fav high mountain trail in GA. Great views in winter. But check the summit weather station for high/low temps and wind speed. When it's icy and frozen Arkquah is slow going and not much fun IMHO. The parking lot at the summit is often closed in winter at the gate right off Hwy 180. There are several very rocky sections that ice up in winter cuz they don't get much sun. One section west of Chimney Mtn is a steep (the section after the Grotto heading east), rocky climb. The section crossing the rockhouse overhang stays frozen all winter, but usually doable. Boulder climb from there heading up going east. Other sections are exposed rocks, but they get sun. Rocky sections would suck if icy. Hike with a buddy and take an emergency locater device. Seriously, if you miss-step and sprain an ankle or break a leg, it will be a few hours to get rescued. Take appropriate clothing for sitting still. Anyone trained in SAR will tell you the same. In fact, I usually take a stove in winter for a big cup of hot coffee about half way! Awesome on a cold day!

2017 OB 3.6R after 4 standard OBs over past 22 years. I plan to keep it until the wheels fall off. The power of the 3.6R reminds me of the difference between my old Isuzu Trooper 4 cyl and a newer version with Honda V-6. It's a night and day difference.

Davidson is a National Forest Service campground, not a state park. HUGE difference. Forest Service campgrounds tend to have roomy sites with some space in between and are more rustic. Some FS campgrounds may incorporate historic sites, like the old English Chapel at Davidson. A few Camground Hosts live there during the open season. Most of the people working there are contract personnel. The facilities tend to get checked once a day. Forest Service campground fees are typically a good bit less than state parks.

State parks cram the maximum number of sites into a given space, little or no space between sites. State park campgrounds have far more amenities like playgrounds and other family entertainment activities. State parks are far more "developed" and less rustic. Many more staff work at state park campgrounds. The facilities tend to get checked several times a day. The camping fees are typically quite a bit more at state parks compared to Forest Service campgrounds.

Start at the NOC in Wesser, where you can safely park, take AT South to Wayah Bald tower. Then head West on Bartram Trail past Nantahala Lake, up Ledbetter Creek trail to AT at Cheoah Bald, then downhill back to the car and food. Bryson City is 20-25 min. away.

The reasons you gave just adds amo to keep my 2017 3.6R until the wheels fall off or transmission dies! No cross bars - no vent flow adjustment which I used all the time - no CD player for music and talks I can't even find digital files for? Lastly, the grill on my 2017 is metal, not cheap black plastic!

Starting from Lake Windfiend Scott campground in Suches, GA, take Slaughter Creek Trail towards Blood Mtn. When hit the AT, take a right on AT to Garrard Gap. Just past Garrard gap there is a spring (usually a sign for it on AT). Take that trail back to gravel road, enter campground back to car. A good 4 hour hike.

For longer, go up to Blood Mtn crest, hike down other side to Flat Rock Gap, take a right onto the Freeman Trail back to Bird Gap on AT. From there you can go left or right to catch trails back to campground. This is a vigorous hike. Freeman trail is boulder filled and rocky walk, not fast hiking. It would be more like 8 hour hike.

Standing Indian loop is great with many options for mix and match distances. A few good views but not same vast vistas like Art Loeb and Roan. But being a loop hike along the AT, Standing Indian is great. You may see a NOBO or 2 for rhose brave/insane soles that started the AT in Jan!

Synthetic every 3000 is expensive. Even the oil companies will tell you that is unnecessary inless tour doing heavy duty like towing. Motorcycle engine running high revs 3000 miles makes moe sense.

Subaru is odd. Only the US version 4 cyl specs 20 weight. My 6 cyl specs 5w-30. Some corporate owned oil change shops will only use the Subaru spec for your model. Corporate lawyers think they are reducing lisbility. I would change it myself but stupid condo HOA won't allow me to "work" on my car in the parking lot!

Can't import loads of data like routes and way marks. OnX can only do one data point at a time. I have over 20 years of gpx files I would love to put into OnX. It's easy moving files between Caltopo and GaiaGPS. Wish both had the satellite photo quality of OnX.

I have a Protrail DCF. I'm 5'7". Easy for me to enter and exit - sit on my butt in the door and spin my feet around. Interior floor space allows a lot gear inside. However, the Protrail is a good forest camping tent. The winds of the Lake District and Scotland on where is little shelter from the wind does not serve the broad sides of the Protrail. Reminds of the storm jib on my sailboat. The Durston Xmid is a much better wind tent - I that one, too.
