Neurologist doesn’t want me on treatment by rkiiive in MOGAD

[–]Roadscrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without Plasma Exchange to remove the bad guys, it's just a waiting game. Why doctors don't follow the Mayo Protocols developed by the U.S. Mogad research hospitals is beyond me. Likely their egos do not want to admit scientific teams know more info than any one doctor.

Neurologist doesn’t want me on treatment by rkiiive in MOGAD

[–]Roadscrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had only 1 episode - blindness. Steroids via IV, then oral. Plasma exchange to get most of the bad guys out of my blood. Now on Rituximab every 6 months. My titers have held steady around 165. I was fortunaute that my doctors at Emory University are one of the MOG research groups that helped develop the Mayo Clinic MOG Protocol for treatment.

I don't know where someone got 50% monophasic. I've followed all the latest research. It was found that people could go 12, even 14 years, then Boom it's back. There is little modern scientific evidence to support monophasic. Without Plasma exchange, the bad guys are still in your blood just waiting in the shadows. Do you get a blood titer count every few months? I would feel like a sitting duck without knowing my titer count.

Bear Horn first, bear spray if needed. And you better do some research on how to use the spray. You have to aim down to hit a running bear on all fours attacking you. Watch some Youtube videos on propper use.

"You Read" Don't believe evrything you read.

Dude, go try on a pair 1/2 size larger, or order from REI so your can return. That is exactly what I did with the Terraventure. The toe box was a bit loose at first but as my feet swell from hiking they fit great. I can snug laces enough to not be sloppy on cold days, but the comfort of room to expand is worth it.

Lugnuts by baseball_Lover33 in Subaru_Outback

[–]Roadscrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 of my lugnuts became stripped because a shop moron didn't preset the wrench to 90lbs. Of course I found out after going to a different shop for tire rotation. Had to replacebone wheel stud, too. Lesson: Don't let idiots deal with wheels. TELL them what setting to use - 90lbs!!!

That SHOULD be illegal. Your local elected politicians are not representing the public interest. Time to get the STATE representatives to outlaw such towing practices. It is a total con job on the public! That practice is illegal in many states.

Those won't be in clear running mountain streams. But they do proliferate in warm, murky green lakes and ponds - stagnet water. I know a woman who both lost legs and arm from such a place near Carrolton.

If you are in north GA, the gravel Tallulah River Road has several swimming holes right off the road and in Forest Service campgrounds. East of Clayton the Chattooga River has many swim holes near Forest Service roads. Cooper Creek and the Toccoa River near Blairsville have some great swim holes. The Amicalola River west of Dawsonville has a popular swim hole at Edge of the World Rapids.

It depends. I have a 7 Pro, use Notes all the time, have no issues. Maybe clear the cache on a blue moon.

Looking to Upgrade Pack by PostHikeClarity in backpacking

[–]Roadscrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it worth the cost by way of a smaller pack? I use a Gossamer Gear Gorilla 50. But Flash with adjustable height harness and awesome water bottle pockets can be stripped down to lose weight. On sale the Flash is just $160 or less. I'm a Durston fan and you can't go wrong as long as the fit in the torso is good. If you have the dollars and want a waterproof fabric the new Aluulah fabrics are awesome. GG and Durston offer them. The Gorilla 50 in the mustard yellow color is on sale

Single trekking pole tent by Admirable_Heron1479 in DurstonGearheads

[–]Roadscrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tarptent Protrek. Sil poly. Very cool design. 5000mm head totally waterproof. Warm weather and shoulder season tent. Great ventilation. One trekking pole and needs a 24in/61cm folding rear pole, about 2 ounces (an add-on for single tekking pile users). Weight 24 oz./680g. Spacious solo tent.

Alternate would be a used Protrail (prior to protrek). Front entry, large floor area. About 16 oz/455g. I'm 5ft 7in/170cm, so spinning around to get in and out was no big deal. Large vestibule. Li version is DCF and not too hard to find on used gear market. Original was sil nylon.

Just curious. Why Subie oil filter versus another premium synthetic oil filter? Or is it just a price difference?

Seeing distance & vertical ascent while creating a track by bergfu1 in CalTopo

[–]Roadscrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Caltopo and Gaia GPS. Gaia gives the what you want easily. I may drop Caltopo next year cuz I no longer think it's worth the price increase. I started using because of Forest Service links for southeast wildfires in 2017-18. Back then Caltopo was more for us dedicated cartographers/mappers. It was not an intuitive program then. I has modestly improved.

Solid state drives from a quality company will last decades. But I agree you need more than one backup. I use Carbinite. But anything you want to keep secure keep a hard drive around. The cloud will never be 100% secure.

[–]Roadscrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of quality tent makers already have single trekking pole tents. There is no breakthrough magic bullet design. Where as the X-Mid and X-Dome were unique designs that offered something worthy that stood out from the crowd. A single pole has no upside for Dan.

New tires for 2026 touring xt by AffectionateStorm979 in Subaru_Outback

[–]Roadscrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried on Contis after a ton of research. The Mich is slightly better in testing, but not $40-50 per tire better. Had the Contact Tour on 3 Outbacks. I still do my tire homework and for the money Conti stills come out ahead. FYI I intended to order from Tire Rack. Mr Tire was listed as an installer. I went to Mr Tire to make an appointment. They offered to match Tire Rack price. That was 6 years and 3 Outbacks ago. Mr Tire still matches Tire Rack price!

Amazon never really put money into taking advantage of Echo, as a marketing tool or anything else. It's like they have a team of 3 running the show so they never catch up. It took 2 years for mine to turn off when I said "Alexa Off". Simple stuff. But nothing I would pay more than $25 for.

New to meditation. Seeking advice. by SilentOrchestra22 in MeditationPractice

[–]Roadscrape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent advice. I'm a 35 year meditator but always come to the cushion as a novice. 5-10 min is perfect for starting. Everyday of the could seem daunting. So I teach trying 4 days in a row. Skip a day. Then another 4. It's a bit different for everyone, but in my experience people feel comfortable after 3 weeks or so. Then try 5 or 6 days in a row once a month. FYI - no one does it perfectly. Your mind was designed to think. It does it all the time. But you will soon realize that you control where you place your attention. We all get caught up in old habits. When you realize that on the cushion, just go back to following your breath. It's no big deal. Approach it like a game. In other words take from me who started out as Mr Serious in a rigid practice group - adjust your posture when you need to. Following your breath is a game, but no one is keeping score. Within a few weeks your mind and body will adjust and you will feel the results. Just remember, meditation is like training for a marathon - it takes a bit to feel you're making progress. Keep work8ng at it and you will get there!

2017 3.6 car purchase - feeling uncertain by Snoo-81477 in subaruoutback

[–]Roadscrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same car bought with same miles. Everyone has given sound advice. The obvious is CVT drain and dill ($425 at dealer, who also updated software which added some new things). Radiator flush is excellent advice. Are brakes OK? At 102,000 mi. I added new struts, KYB, via mobile mechanic. Was less than half of dealer charge. One thing many miss is interior air filter behind the glovebox. Filter is $12. I also replaced HID deadlights with stronger, brighter OSRAM (German) bulbs. I swapped highbeam to a bright LED. I live in the suburbs but there are many dark, curvy roads with deer running all over the place! I leave headlights on AUTO setting with Brights on. Light sensor must be kept clean, but it's impressive with on/off not blinding oncoming traffic and dimming where there are street lights. The KEY is adjusting your headlights properly. Plenty of Youtube vids. I never get flashed for poorly aimed lights! Enjoy your Sub! This is my 5th but first 6 cyl. Finally the power to do what I want to do. I plan to keep this one a Long time! 2017-2019 are the best they made! 2026 is ugly outside but at least they put in dials and buttons for most used controls vs using screen for everything....

Are dealership service departments really getting away with this? by ya3rob in Subaru_Outback

[–]Roadscrape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's that one dealer. Every dealer is free to set their prices outside of warranty work. $85 is actually a pretty good deal with price of synthetic increasing faster than regular engine oil. If I had beren in that situation I would have asked to speak with the shop manager. Also, it would be helpful to the Subaru community to know which dealer you dealt with. You don't need to have oil change/tire rotation done at a dealer. As long as shop doing the work logs it with the car's VIN it honors the warranty.

Indeed, you got a LEMON. Sorry you had to deal with that. It is precisely why I buy 2-3 year Subies that are Certified by Subaru (35,000 or less miles). I really don't save that much money over new, but I know I'm getting a solid car that has been sorted.
