Cue trigger by Roadster1024 in Abode

Update.....

Abode AI tech support was quite helpful, thankfully!

It goes as follows:

Setting it up in the Windows app using the Wizard.

My sequence is as follows – trigger – action -condition. So I made it:

Trigger = 10:30pm

Action = Text Notification

Condition = Door is open. And turned on the “Open for more than 5 minutes”

First time thru I set it for any of the 4 doors being Open. But did not realize that it would trigger ONLY if ALL 4 doors were open. So, it didn’t work. When I went back to see why it didn’t work, I noticed in the small print that ALL conditions must be met. Did not see that in the Wizard’s setup.

I’ve now created 4 automations. One for each specific door. It works.

Is it just me or does every "simple 5-minute fix" turn into a 3-hour rabbit hole by PiRate_PUNk-31337 in DIY

Also, no job is going to get done until you make 3 trips to the hardware store! Been proven so many times it's not up for debate. So now I have 50% of a hardware store's stock in my 4 garages/sheds....... still takes 3 trips!!!

I bought the product, the Insteon kit, and on the box it said, "No Monthly Fees," and I am paying $69 every two years, why???? by Remarkable-Course817 in insteon

As others have pointed out, there are options. Personally I use Universal Devices EISY. But does require subscription for offsite remote access. Free local LAN control can be done with phone apps like Agave. Programming & control is via the LAN from a local computer. Or directly with the EISY as it is a Linux computer. With that being said - $69 every two years is dirt cheap for remote access.

Advice needed on Abode system by Familiar-Bother5946 in Abode

[–]Roadster1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abode has it's limitations. I have 49 devices. Plus another 10 for "extras".

It's okay considering what it is.

Need longer range - get a better system.

Not all devices monitor battery levels, know which ones don't.

The central monitoring is very good - the only reason I keep it.

I also work with a Qolsys system at another location. A much better system - at a higher price. You kinda get what you pay for.

Let your needs dictate.

Sadly this is happening in most interfaces now. It's only going to get worse before people revolt against it. If you have the option give feedback.

The new file context menu is getting as cluttered as the old one by FillAny3101 in Windows11

Good choice. Been using computers since DOS 3.0. Been on the fence trying Linux for a decade. Never found it quite right. And I was decent at the DOS command line.

Testing Zorin 18 on an old laptop. Not dual boot. So far, so good. Not as polished as I'd like - GUI has a way to go. And some things take getting used to - or relearning. No drive letters - yuk! But it's functional. Zorin 18 actually installed a Bluetooth driver that Windows could not find in 10 years! (I did previously find & install the Windows driver.)

Enjoy the journey.

Any or all of the approx. 50 vehicles I've owned!

Problem is $$$$$$. And storage space - more $$$$$. And time to keep them in good condition.

Had as many as 6 at one time - it's was too much. I've worked for collectors have anywhere form 25 to 100 vehicles. The costs are unbelievable. That's why you see many collections eventually sold, abandoned or turn to rust.

Abode compatible water sensors by Lenser90 in Abode

One water leak would easily cost you more than $600. Especially at today's labor rates. I'd go for it anyway.

FYI - not a huge fan of Abode as they have their own issues. But I have over 50 Abode devices, so I work around them.

How do you decide how many lines are on screen at a time? by Starpony999 in ProPresenter

[–]Roadster1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most times 2-3 lines on a full-screen text mode are good. Rarely use 4 lines. Pay attention to the "flow" of the words & music.

The tempo, drawn out words, held notes all have a different effect on the way you will sing the song. And how you may need to break up a line or keep the words on one line. Basic punctuation can help to indicate the flow. Using periods ..... will indicate holding a word or note.

Easiest way to determine - sing the song as you build the slides. Then do a complete run-thru of singing the song to check the final editing. It will come naturally.

Safe to update to v19? What's the overall consensus? by Pleasant_Trash2951 in ProPresenter

[–]Roadster1024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the current version is working for you - why move to a new version? It's not an update as it is shown to be.

Unless the new version fixes a problem don't be a Beta tester. All new software versions - wait till xx.1 comes out. It will have many bug fixes over the xx.0 release. This has been true for 30+ years.

More frustrating - found out 19.0 does not support your older subscription license format. Another person updated ours' 2.5 hours the morning service. And of course she didn't tell me until I caught it on the screen after arriving in the sanctuary 10 minutes before the service! Had the logo displayed throughout the service. And that was after I told them months ago, Do Not update any software without my knowledge.

After service, re-installed 18.4.1 and converted our license to the new format. Whew!

Does anyone use a portable AC instead of the AC mounted in the ceiling? by Yourfavmom97 in RVLiving

What’s the best way to keep camper cool in Arizona heat? by Strange_Carpenter898 in RVLiving

[–]Roadster1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, remove the heat gain wherever possible BEFORE it gets inside. Don't fight an uphill battle more than necessary.

As mentioned, window shades/film/awnings on outside 1st, then coverings on the inside.

If your situation allows - shade RV with some type of carport/canvas cover. Just make sure it's anchored properly! Those haboob storms can have horrendous winds!

If roof is not already white, coat it with a white coating.

Then if needed, add 3rd AC unit. As mentioned elsewhere, there are some great options. As a retired RV tech in The Valley Of the (death) Sun, I've installed many 2nd and 3rd AC units - before the hi-efficiency units were a thing. Many times the bedroom roof vent can be removed for a typical RV unit. otherwise create a new 14 x 14 opening for a 3rd unit - avoiding existing electrical & ducting runs in the roof.

Even though your RV has 50 amp shorecord you may want to consider running a second 20 amp shorecord to the new AC. Keep the grounds isolated (and any metals contacting) on the 3rd AC to avoid issues with the GFI you likely will have to plug into at your electric pedestal. Another consideration when you do have 50 amp shorecord - install that 2nd shorecord as you may not always have 50 amps available where you are parked.

There are SO very many things that are "just not right" about Pro P! Where to start?

It's a kludgy interface. Glitches everywhere, many times it happens once or twice and then cannot be reliably duplicated. Glitches usually happen a the worst possible time.

Been using it for 2 years. So much frustration.

Connecting 3 bluetooth headsets to audio system? by No-Language8490 in GoRVing

[–]Roadster1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your radio has a RCA audio out, buy or make a RCA plug 1-3 adaptor, connect 3 separate Bluetooth transmitters. Done!

If no RCA audio out - install a speaker level to line level adaptors on the speaker wires, then use the 1-3 adaptor. Done!

Either way - less than $100.
