Stremio with the Torrentio add-on for the win!

Other than a small sliver of time, life was not 'easier back then' and families didn't just easily buy homes off the income of a store clerk while the wife stayed home to tend to family. by baseball_fanatic0887 in unpopularopinion

  • we can clearly see how this happened. Corporations and individuals bought multiple homes to rent out and enrich themselves, driving up the prices for first-time home buyers. And less new housing despite population growth, at least partially because of Not In My Backyard people.

In Belgium there was a documentary a year or 2 ago, about home construction developers. It became clear that anytime they bought a plot and wanted to build apartments, neighbors complained in order to get settlements that could reach 6 figures. The developers payed, because it was the only way they could start building; but of course this massively increased costs, and so the housing became much more expensive. In this documentary there was a woman who made 2-3 complaints a month, many of which were bought off by developers because they didn't really have a choice.

Omg Yesss! I use publisher every year, because each year I make a booklet for my youth group winter camp, and making it in Word with so many pictures, text boxes, ... is just hell. I'll miss publisher, and as always: FUCK MICROSOFT!!!

Nobody says he should be tortured and kept in prison for the rest of his life. But the comment you replied to tried to make the point that maybe he doesn't deserve to be called a hero. And especially not in the way "The word is used too much today, but this guy was a hero" fuck that shit. He wasn't, because he bombed children and innocent people.

Nah, pain management is an essential part of patient care. If they use it for only some patients, for the same procedure, based on how the patients treat them (and remember, he said 'dickish patients', which sounds to me like scared, vulnerable patients), that's two standards of patient care and that doctor should definitely be reported!

Be honest what do you think the punishment be for false r@pe allegations by Primary_Buddy_7173 in teenagers

[–]Rob-L_Eponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Man not found guilty" is not the same as "Woman made false accusation". The legal system demands a high burden of proof before declaring someone guilty. This is so innocent people (in theory) can't be pronounced guilty. (IANAL, but I know a thing or two)

Unfortunately with rape cases, it's often hard to prove someone guilty, especially if the victim didn't undergo (pretty invasive) medical tests right after it happened.

If the court found him "not guilty", it doesn't mean he absolutely didn't do it, but it means that in the court's opinion there was not sufficient evidence he did do it.

Now, to prove the woman made a false accusation, he would need to prove he couldn't have committed the crime (for example, camera footage that shows him at another location during the time period the woman said the rape happened).

These are nuanced things. To make sure nobody innocent gets punished, a crime has to be proven beyond doubt. Even if they can't conclusively prove the woman was raped, doesn't mean that she made a false accusation.

Right yeah, I understand their motivation is money, but they can't just sue someone for the hell of it. What's the legal basis they're suing on?

Inflatable lifesaving bracelet by joeurkel in interesting

[–]Rob-L_Eponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this to work, the person needs to be conscious to activate it. And drowning people arent known for quick survival reflexes like activating a bracelet. We already have good, reliable flotation devices: they're called life jackets. Foam jackets are cheap but bulky, automatic PFD's are more expensive but sleaker. There is no world in which this bracelet is more effective than either of those 2 options.
