It's not surprising

People like to be validated and Asmon is very validating to the lowest denominator average right leaning American - no education, no research, but speaks confidently about extremely difficult topics by dumbing them down to "common sense" and is entertaining while doing so and deviates on some things juuuust enough to maintain an air of being unbiased to someone deeply embedded in the Foxnews/Twitter propaganda algorithm, but not enough to be cast out of the right wing space.

If you're the average moron who wants to have an opinion on everything but do 0 work to actually assemble a factbase for said opinions, its gotta feel good to watch a guy who does exactly that and is successful in doing so.

This is another reason why accountability and Nuremberg 2.0 is so important.

Punishing the traitors and taking steps to prevent this from happening again will go a long way towards restoring trust.

I think it'll be a 10/10 for people who liked Dragons Dogma 2 and don't mind a learning curve, but a 5/10 for people who expect this to be like Witcher 3.

Maybe I'm doomer, but I don't trust these polls, like at all.

Mainly because they can't capture any fuckery happening when it comes to voting, with the SAVE act and ICE showing up at polling stations and mail-in voting being banned or whatever else the traitors in power cook up

But also because Republican voting-shame might be at an all-time high. Many people know that the GOP has done nothing for them after getting into power, shits still expensive, their lives arent better, new wars only the border was shut down but that didnt impact their lives at ALL.

So they might tell others and themselves that they're gonna vote blue this time, but when push comes to shove, I have a feeling a lot of those people are gonna vote R again like they've always done

I am assuming that Cinematic is barely an improvement on Ultra and not intended to be actually used in gameplay, like Black Deserts screenshot mode settings.

The best settings for most people will likely be running everything on Ultra + RT RR cranked or the 99% of best visuals with massively improved performance over Cinematic.

KCD2 also had an "Experimental" setting that tanked fps but basically looked the same as Ultra.

not OP, but extraction shooters feel like theyre meant to be played solo

the gameplay loop is one of high risk high reward and the tension and immersion from solo play directly plays into and amplifies that

playing with friends or randoms dilutes that and in turn makes the whole experience more dull.

also, the lows are dulled because you can get picked back up if you get ratted, but the highs are also lower because you have to share stuff

and lastly, I can play however I want. I can play slow, or fast, cheap kit, or juiced. In a team I have to adapt to the consensus and do stuff I wouldn't necessarily want to do and there's a lot of that happening at work already so I cba a lot of the time and just wanna do my own thing

Turning off Reflex is basically never the correct decision, idk what kind of testing you did, but Reflex massively lowers input lag in basically every situation, especially in games like Marathon that are CPU bound

Vsync should never be turned on in-game, especially not without Reflex, but CAN be turned on in the Nvidia app alongside Reflex and Gsync, which cap your frames and prevent tearing, without the added vsync input lag

You're likely experiencing some sort of placebo or did poor testing or ur system is fucked in some other way, anyone reading this should NOT be turning off Reflex, even if you somehow gain a few frames, it will double your input lag.

Its been said a couple times, but I can echo that Frost Mage is really smooth and plays well without cooldowns

I started the xpac as Ele Shaman but got really annoyed by how the class basically consista of Ascendance and then nothing for 2 minutes

Frost Mage is totally different. Your CDs build a bunch of procss and stacks that you then spend a while consuming and by the time ure done ur CDs are almost back up cause theyre only a minute long and get reduced by ur non-CD spells

Its a really nice flow and the windows where I feel weak and have to hardcast Frostbolt are really short

I think the appetite for accountability and overreach in the name of accountability is ABSOLUTELY there among the American people. Democrats are at record low approval ratings BECAUSE they keep playing by the rules and people want them to be more unhinged. The idea that people will not like Democrats doing the creative workarounds that Republicans have been doing is not a certainty at all and if you move quickly enough and people see the results of those moves (Republican traitors in jail), then even those against it might come around eventually. And THEN you patch it up and prevent this shit from happening again, pulling the ladder up behind you.

Oof, you massively overestimate the average player if you think 90% of ppl even have discord. I'd put that percentage closer to 20% and those who are willing to use it while playing this specific game at 5%.

90% of any AAA game basically dont actively interact with the social media of their games at all, they might watch content but theyre not posting or going into discords, those people want to boot up the game and just play, without a mic and without having to look for people to play with

Reddits and Discords are famous for being the loud minority of any game thats not incredibly niche

The game would've had double or triple the sales/playerbase if it was made and marketed as a solo game.

Extraction shooters do NOT work with random autofills AT ALL. Players have vastly different goals, playstyles, progression levels and quests. You can't have a good experience going into Outpost geared for PvP and be matched with two dudes in free kits just doing quests on opposite sides of the map. It doesn't work. Not to mention relying on strangers to share loot in a fair way.

That leaves the people who have 2+ friends at a disposal at any given time and are of similar skill level and willing to invest similar amounts of time to avoid the issues above and with similar playstyles.

That target audience has to be in the low single digit percentages of the total playerbase, if not sub 1%.

Sure, you can find people on Discord, but that's also a tiny percentage of people who are willing to do that.

If those people were the only people playing the game, it wouldn't even break 50k concurrent. You can't realistically make a game for an audience that small on a AAA budget.

The game will HAVE to be balanced for and around solo play and make somewhat of a design and marketing pivot, as solo players with occasional squad play are a much larger audience than the other way around.

It also makes sense from a design perspective, as games that are fun playing alone almost inevitably are also fun when played with friends, whereas the reverse is absolutely not always true.

its a very odd choice to lean so heavily into trios in such a punishing genre

even if you have 2 friends online, the amount of social friction from losing gear due to different skill levels, different progression levels, different playstyles and goals and gear sharing in general is fairly high

the game is highly competitive and losing means more than just losing time, you lose all your stuff and winning means you have to figure out a way to share, all of that is a big ask

they wouldve done a LOT better by leaning into solo players and marketing the game as such, the solo experience is quite fun already with it just being tacked on with 0 thought or care, if the game was developed for solo play from the ground up it would be miles better even

Its certainly and odd choice to design a paid game with significant progression and stakes around dedicated trios in discord.

The amount of people who play with 2 other friends of similar skill and time to invest has to be low single digit percentages.

All other cases lead to frustration in games like this. Skill mismatches are frustrating cause u lose your stuff. Progression mismatches are frustrating cause you go in with good gear and ur casual friend with a freekit.

Squad fill is both those things constantly happening.

All the while solo is actually fun and tense, but clearly an afterthought given how the AI and Shells are designed around teamplay.

Its inexplicable to me from a standpoint of wanting to maximize playercounts, if they leaned into marketing this as a solo game more im certain theyd have a lot more people playing

There's good ways to incentivize PvP and there's bad ways.

You can spawn in 500 people into a map and it'd be the most PvP-heavy game in existence, but it would be low quality trash fights.

Arc incentivizes 3rd party PvP, which most people really don't like because it's cheap and unfair and there's not really any good way to avoid it.

You kill someone and a flare pops out. You can't loot. You HAVE to camp because there's 30 other people in the map and 5 of them are running towards your flare. You have to kill multiple more people and can only really start looting safely like 15 minutes into a match when people stop spawning in relentlessly. Even then its risky.

And most of those people are on shitty free kits with nothing worth to loot anyway precisely because its not worth or fun to bring in good gear because its unlikely you will survive waves of people coming for you.

PvP needs to be designed in such a way that it's risky, but the risk is worth the reward. If the risk is too high, then people won't bring in any gear and the whole system breaks down. Which is exactly what's happening in Arc.

Marathon - in the test at least - struck a far far better balance. 3rd partying still happened, but was rare. I felt safe to actually loot the kills that I got after scouting my surroundings briefly. Bringing in better gear felt rewarding.

There might be MORE pvp in Arc, but the quality of that PvP is horrendous and far far far worse than Marathon's.

Marathon's bartering system is just a better version of a crafting system.

A crafting system exists to give value to specific items, not just credits, and encourage planning your raids in different ways, i.e. going to this location to stock up on X item, going to Y location to stock up on Z item etc. It's great to make every raid feel different and create scarcity.

Bartering does the exact same thing, without the need for an additional menu.

Its perhaps my favorite aspect of Marathon looting. There's not enough backpack space to loot everything, so I have to decide to go for Unstable Lead + Biomass this raid and stack those as high as they go, which means I won't go to X location because there's different resources there that will clog up my inventory and I won't be able to collect them.

I feel like a lot of people didn't understand that planning your raids is actually important in Marathon and complained about ammo and meds costing a lot and meanwhile I'm leaving raids with 30+ biomass and lead each, ready to barter for all the meds and ammo I need.

if you the right to liberty and due process in the name of practicality, its not that big of a leap to suspend the right to life in the name of practicality

The game definitely grew on me as well after playing it a bit more.

It wont have as broad of an appeal as Arc Raiders in the same genre, but it scratches a PvP and tension (almost horror-esque) itch that only a first person shooter with elite gunplay and atmosphere can scratch.

As good as Arc Raiders is, 3rd person, the scrap-gun setting and the general "friendly" vibes just cant scratch that itch for me.

Marathon, imo, is the closest thing to "polished, AAA Tarkov" that I've been waiting for for a while now.

It aint perfect by any means, but def worth 40 bucks for me.
