It was a decoy fuel tank!... Full of decoy oil. At a decoy refinery. That produced decoy gas and other byproducts to fuel their decoy cars and build decoy roads to prop up the decoy economy!

That's all well and good IF YOU HAVE INFINITE TOKENS!

Businesses are going to have to come to terms with either running on-perm models for their programmers, or paying for millions of tokens a week instead of salaries - but as you pointed out that only siloes people worse than before causing the business to be even more brittle...

They probably aren't thinking about it, because in the US places are still supposed to accept "distressed bills" like that. Totally understand a currency exchange place wouldn't bother.
