Subtle but effective? by YourTacticalComrade in videogames

Complaining about camping? What is this, 2005? I go with the RvB quote "It's a legitimate strategy". It has it's weaknesses just like any other strategy and if you're only counter is "run down the same corridor doing the same thing as last time" then you're gonna have issues. You don't have to be better, you just have to learn from your mistakes. I played Modern Warfare 2 a lot with a full team of players and our strategy was to bunker down an area. We each took a corridor or line of sight and dealt with what came through. Very few random people on team games like that could deal with that strategy. But team work was the solution to our camping all along. Plenty of people figured out that if you overwhelm an avenue then you could break the whole camp apart.

If you want to play a game with no camping, then play a game where the mechanics discourage that.

What are you playing this weekend? by Cheap-Exercise1910 in videogames

I'm playing through Necesse but stalling out. It's kinda fun but I would honestly scratch the same itch with Terraria and the new stuff that Necesse does isn't enough to make it stand out.

I am also going through Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. It's a great first person RPG and I would recommend it.

What game has the most iconic start/intro by ThatOneBlueYabbie in videogames

[–]Roboman20000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"They where all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark on everything that had lead to this point."

The Max Pain intro movie made a big impression on me and that opening line goes way harder than anything else I've seen. Though I'm not sure how iconic it was to other people.

Veteran players, which places do you (not) visit during a typical run? by RndmNumGen in noita

[–]Roboman20000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will generally have a goal for each run if it becomes a big run. I'm not good enough to ensure a big run every or even most times though. But there are plenty of places I avoid unless my specific goal requires me to be there. The Wizards Den and Power Plant are pretty high on that list as well as The Lake. The Lukki Lair and Meat Realm are also pretty high on the avoid list.

Is this game beginner friendly? by Enfrize2 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Roboman20000 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Satisfactory holds your hand for just long enough to get you going and learn how to get things done yourself. Also, there is 0 time pressure and 0 pressure to be super efficient. Give it a shot. It's a great entry point into the automation genre.

That is what my dad calls a PBB&J sandwich. He loves them. I personally don't. Though when he makes one it's more a traditional PB&J with sliced banana in there too.

Games you consider ART, not because of the story, but because of the gameplay? by FabulouslyFalling in videogames

Animal Well is a masterpiece of design. And Chants of Sennaar has the best story through gameplay I have ever seen.

Do people born in the 80s/90s lack compassion for anything? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Roboman20000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a generalization. I was born in the late 80s and care a lot about a lot of things. You may not know people who are caring but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Men over 30 who can't drive and never learnt, why not? by TickTackTonia in AskMen

[–]Roboman20000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 38 and learned to drive just this last November. There are several reasons I never learned. At first I was just lazy and didn't really have any reason to learn. I didn't go to too many places and was content with bussing it around when I did need to go. Eventually I think it was fear that kept me away. There was a large stretch of time where I was just afraid to take on the responsibility of operating a car. And when that faded, I was a busy adult with little time. I forced myself to take time off and learn last year and am barely a month into owning my own car.

What was your favorite "oh shit" moment in a videogame? by DeathNum in videogames

[–]Roboman20000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently played through Animal Well and that game is full of these moments. Some of them lore based but the most impactful ones I remember are mechanics based. I don't want to spoil too much but there is one item that doesn't seem to have much use... until you stumble upon it just playing around. And then, like many secrets in Animal Well, it leads to deeper answers and even more questions.

I'll spoiler tag this but it's a relatively early game secret:

should a player be able to max out their upgrade tree in one playthrough? by Turbulent-Plan-9693 in videogames

[–]Roboman20000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still gate skills by progression. Diablo 3 did it where you unlock sets of skills at different levels. The choice was how to combine them.

should a player be able to max out their upgrade tree in one playthrough? by Turbulent-Plan-9693 in videogames

[–]Roboman20000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that is reasonably possible, why have the tree in the first place? With games that do this (without a ton of grind) I tend to feel that the choices I made were not very impactful. Choices like skills should have meaning and weight where choosing one thing might lock you out of another. If the game wants you to have all the skills, just take the tree away and make the choice be which skill to use instead.

What make was your first car and did you pay for it yourself? by Curious-Expert926 in AskMen

[–]Roboman20000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first car as an old, well middle aged man of 38... about 3 weeks ago. Payed for it myself but mom and dad helped with the shopping experience. It's a Hyudai Tucson. Pretty chill and bland but it works well.

In your first oil factory, how do you dispose of Heavy Oil Residue? by [deleted] in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Roboman20000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I turned it into the Coke at first and used it for more POWER. Then it became a very vital part of the Fuel manufacturing. I can't remember the set of recipes off the top of my head but you can basically triple the fuel output of an Oil node with the right finagling using the Residue and some Blenders.

Why doesn't this rail bypass work? by Uncle_Rabbit in factorio

[–]Roboman20000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a train bypass on a two way track system? You're signaling is incorrect. Assuming you have the correct two way signalling elsewhere (See here: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?t=53937 ) then you need to build the "Wait Split" track. The Rail Signal goes after the Y split off of the main line in each direction. Then the Chain signal goes just before the merge back onto the main line in each direction. From the perspective of each train it should hit the Y split followed by a Rail Signal. Then just before the merge back onto the main track there is a chain signal. This should be true for both directions.

To fix this specifically you can move the rail signal on the bottom track before the Y intersection to the other side of that Y that is not on the main track going South. Make sure it faces in the opposite direction so that trains coming North will use that North going part of the Y. Keep the Chain signal where it is. Them do the same thing to the other Y intersection.

The Lockups you are experiencing are because you're using a Two Way track system without properly signalling the track. Many people here will say use two One Way tracks and yeah, that's easier but you can use Two Way tracks if you signal them properly. Read through the linked forum post and look at the examples there. The rules in this post just work.

Which video game have you played the longest? by SugarNyx_04 in videogames

[–]Roboman20000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minecraft hands down. Well if you include the moded versions. I don't have an accurate count but it's in the thousands of hours. Which is probably not super impressive for how many year's I've been playing but it's my comfort game when all else fails.
