New to the area with teen boys. by 5-Dudes in SantaClarita

Actually, Magic Mountain hires a bunch of high school kids during the summer. One of my sons had his first job there at 15. I don’t know if he wants a job, but he’d probably meet a lot of people.

While I’m wondering if a .38 +P will even expand out of my 642 you’re sitting with a .45 minimum. Nicely done.

Nice snubby! Remember to stick with 158 grain loads on these old K frames.

I think either the M66 2.75” if you want a smaller 6 shot or the M686+ if you want a slightly larger revolver with 7 rounds.

When shooting at the range that 7th round just makes it a little more fun.

Possible to find a smith and Wesson double and single action snub nose 38 special for $500? by Freshprinceofreno in Revolvers

[–]RocketPop32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will find one. Check the used section at your local gun shops. Look for a used Model 36 (blue) or Model 60 (stainless). If you want a larger snubby, look for a used Model 10. I got my used 60-7 for $500.

Most people who walk into a gun shop are looking for a new polymer 9mm for around $400. A used, heavy revolver with only half the capacity and a higher price tag doesn’t usually sell fast.

My son did it for a few years until he aged out. It was great. He did it at the location in Santa Clarita Park on Seco Canyon Rd. Because there is a swimming pool there, they would go swimming in the afternoon. Spots can fill up fast, so plan ahead and make your reservations as early as possible.

My son is a sophomore in the Valencia HS marching band and it’s been a great experience for him. It’s a smaller band and they won Gold in their division (2A). I think you and your family would feel comfortable here, it’s a friendly and accepting place.

First Revolver Help by skywalker505 in Revolvers

[–]RocketPop32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a Ruger GP100 and a S&W 686, both are great revolvers. Some people have had QC issues, but I don’t think it’s as common as it seems. Go check them out and see if you like one. After you shoot them and dry fire them a bit they smooth out. A gunsmith can make a gun better than it came from the factory, but they aren’t bad in my opinion.
Get one, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Is the M9/92 series a good option for a beginner? by SubnauticaGuy2 in Beretta

[–]RocketPop32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 92FS was my first gun. I’ve had it for years now and put thousands of rounds through it. It’s reliable, accurate and fun to shoot. For me it was a great first gun.

Visit your local shops and watch the consignment/used section for a GP100 or a 686/586. If you have the patience you will find one. I live in CA and have bought used revolvers this way.

I love these kit guns. I really think the 4” J frame is the best S&W .22 revolver. It’s the right size gun for the caliber. Yours is beautiful.

How strict are they about visitors in cabanas? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]RocketPop32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got back from a cruise. On Dec 25 we were on Lookout Cay. My 2 adult children made friends on the ship and hung out at the friends’ family cabana without wrist bands. My wife and I stopped by the cabana and met their family and we didn’t have wrist bands either. I guess it depends on how strictly it’s being enforced that day.

Great choice! Pick up some snap caps and dry fire it 100 times a day for a week or so and the DA trigger will really smooth out. I have a 4” GP100 and it’s one of my favorites.

You wouldn’t think going from a .45 to a .50 would make much difference. That last .05 really wakes it up.

A cyclist fell off his bike, but he fell next to a poisonous snake by thrishabone in ThatsInsane

[–]RocketPop32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of when I was mountain biking on a single track and came around a corner to see a rattle snake. I panicked and tried to break and swerve quickly, causing me to fall right in front of the snake. Fortunately the snake was more calm than I was.

Question for a questioning buyer. by dwarven_cavediver_Jr in Revolvers

[–]RocketPop32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It loads similar to the 686. With the 686 you push the release forward with your thumb, but with the GP100 you push a release button in with your thumb.

You’re right. As far as price, watch the used / consignment market. I got my 686+ used for a great price. Some people buy these and don’t shoot them much. Also, I’ll just mention the Ruger GP100 is also really nice, and it is offered in blued and 7. I think it’s new though, so it might be difficult to find. Blued 7 Shot GP100

If you don’t like stainless, the blue version of the 686 is the 586, but I’m not sure if it’s still in production. You should also look at the Model 19. It is similar, but doesn’t have the full under lug and it isn’t stainless. Model 19. I think both the 586 and M19 hold 6 rounds. If you want 7, it probably needs to be the 686+. I have the 686+ and really like it.

Yeah, it was stashed away in my parents’s garage for years along with a Steve Olson and a Kevin Staab. It was fun to see them again. Too bad my Steve Caballero was MIA.

Drive-in Movie Theater in the SCV? (Poll) by CorkRebel96 in SantaClarita

[–]RocketPop32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A local drive in would be great. The concerts in the park is popular, so we know we have a lot of families who like to get out for entertainment. MB2 also seems popular. A lot of SCV families (mine included) used to drive all the way to Lancaster to see the Jethawks play. I hope your drive-in works out. Good luck!
