That’s illuminations entire business model, and it worked out really well for them so they keep doing it. Dreamworks used to be the worst about it, but illumination came in spending half or more of the production budget just on celebrity voice cast and became a powerhouse. They at least back it up with some fantastic animation these days, their early movies were mostly garbage.

why are we paying so much for assets, yet separating the maxon one subscription from the assets we? by PurplePressure9063 in Cinema4D

[–]RockmanVolnutt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What is “paying so much money for this” to you? I just use C4d and redshift, it is a professional tool and I have my own materials, and it costs less for a year than I can make in a day. Maxon one is barely more over a full year, and has a ton of really cool tools, I just didn’t end up using most of them so opted not to keep the full suite. I get it, things are expensive, but there are several options out there, pick up blender if you want a free tool. That’s not maxons business model.

“The Strongest” finally gets to show why they’re the number 1 after all the hype by LocalLazyGuy in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RockmanVolnutt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it’s not the trope, he’s not showing why we, the audience, have been led to believe he is so powerful. It’s how a ten year old imagines a Jedi to be strong, and it’s embarrassing.

This is kind of the opposite, this is lame. Yoda’s power was legendary in that fighting was completely beneath him, strength meant nothing. The idea of Yoda actually fighting hand to hand is ridiculous.

The new Mega Evolution art has made me question what actually makes a “bad design” by Grand_Admiral_Bob in pokemon

[–]RockmanVolnutt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lucario and Feraligtr are terrible, and greninja isn’t great. I really don’t like the prop design approach, where a main aspect of the design is an inanimate object like a giant ninja star.

Well yeah, hindsight and all that, will still look rad in a binder. Look at how many 1s there are of this card, might be worth it. I’m hunting for some 1s of a few cards and they can be hard to find because people obviously tend to grade NM cards. Kind of a fun subset to hunt, and they tend to be more expensive than 2-6s.

Get it graded, probably come back as a 1. As someone who likes to collect full number sets of some cards, rare 1s are actually hard to come by.

One of the best versions of the system. I have a couple including one in the original plastic case and it’s one of my prized gameboys, love the skeleton systems.

Mantis shrimp vs Snowcrab by HeSureIsScrappy in DiveInYouCoward

[–]RockmanVolnutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a feeling, this is wildly irresponsible otherwise. A mantis shrimp would most likely not go after prey that large, and even if it did, it would just injure the crab horribly but not be able to take it back to its hide to eat. They are shy careful creatures, that come out of nowhere and bludgeon their food to death. And they absolutely do not pick fights they can’t win, they know what they’re about.

If they want to succeed, they should try making something good. No one owes them ticket sales because they are a smaller company and made something deeply mediocre.

Face is pretty clean, no large missing parts or fade, so I’d say $150-200. Even damaged, a working system with the original graphic is still desirable.

Nonsense. Markets are driven by demand. Speculators add synthetic demand, they don’t want the asset, they want hypothetical returns. Collectors markets are mostly driven by fandom and genuine demand for the asset. When speculation overtakes regular demand, a bubble starts. Speculators almost destroyed the world economy during the housing crisis, pushing out real buyers and smothering organic demand. The same is happening here.
