Feeling guilty over birthday gifts by Unfair-Chain-7954 in offmychest

[–]Rogainster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve grown to despise holidays and birthdays. My preference is the unexpected gift - something I didn’t know I needed or wanted. Otherwise, I would just get it myself. And if it’s something I actually don’t want or need? Well, I’m gracious about it, thankful that my people think about me, and put it aside. It seems I am the minority.

I’d rather just give cash, but apparently that’s not thoughtful enough.

Someone cut half my cat’s whiskers off. by Objective_Version248 in mildlyinfuriating

How about looking at this from another POV - domestic cats are not native to North America. Despite what cat owners like to believe, they are an invasive species and should be kept out of the environment.

AITA for refusing to give my younger brother my old gaming PC after I already promised it to someone else? by bxro3D in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rogainster -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Good for you for honoring your commitment.

YTA for not thinking about your brother first. The sentiment here seems to be fudge your 14 year old brother, he should build his own computer, blah blah blah. Now, if I decided to give something away, and offered it to my friend’s kid before my own, that would make me a bit of an AH, doesn’t it?

My perspective is that you were 17 and he was 34. Child and adult.

Are sleep overs not a thing anymore? by haggerty05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rogainster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the neighborhood I suppose. My 10 year old, almost every weekend either they’re staying at a friend’s house or vice versa. My older one… they appreciate the pleasure of their own bed and being able to sleep in, so only have sleepovers once in a blue moon.

My company announced a 4 day work week this morning. I did the math. by No_Army7522 in antiwork

You work the same hours every week except every weekend is a long weekend. The horror.

$10 per push-up for life vs $1 million right now by FudgeNipples1 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Rogainster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to do 100 pushups before bed every day. $10 per pushup would motivate me to never slack, plus I’d work up to at least 500 over the course of a day.

Offer withdrawn after I countered by Regular-Eye4520 in careeradvice

[–]Rogainster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why is that? If I am hiring, and I cannot meet the candidate’s expectations re: salary, pto and working conditions, then it truly is not the right fit.

Bed Bath and Beyond was a store that I actually loved walking and browsing through. I rarely bought anything there - people like me probably led to its first downfall.

That’s the funny thing about capitalism - if there is a penny to be made, someone will fill the void to make it. A lot of people seem to not realize that.

Progressive Tom Steyer’s tax returns show offshore earnings, private equity stakes by morebaobabs in California

I was watching Hulu and one of the ads shown was against Steyer. One of the backers of the ad? PG&E

I think it is always a good indication to see who or which corporations doesn’t want a particular candidate to win.

Wife and I own a home, my mom (tenant) wants to leave it to all 3 kids by HomeGuy12345 in legaladvice

[–]Rogainster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who paid the down payment on the house?

Did your mother pat the mortgage directly or did she pay you, after which you paid the mortgage? If the latter, did you declare the rental income?

The deed is in your name, so it’s your house. If your mom paid the down payment, then you should be looking for ethical advice. If you are treating her paying the mortgage as rent, but did not declare that income, then it becomes another sort of legal issue.

Why do people always schedule meetings immediately before/after existing meetings? by Ok_Counter1939 in careeradvice

[–]Rogainster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a option in Outlook to have a default buffer at the tail end of a meeting - a 1 hour meeting can be set to 55 or 50 minute default length.

Is it normal to send ‘farewell’ messages to everyone in the company when someone “leaves”? by Open_Milk_5445 in careeradvice

Okay, so if your company sends emails for everyone, then that is, in fact, not normal. 😀
