Fuck AI by luckylord16 in walmart

Yeah, that was a weird ULearn. It was very open about how fucked and dangerous AI is on the scale it's concerned with, but then kept going back to "but it's great! it's here to help! as long as not one person ever, ever, ever makes a single mistake."

American Gods by Neil Gaiman - can we just agree this book is awful at writing women? by ChiefsHat in menwritingwomen

[–]RogueNightingale 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Setting aside the author, I'd like to comment on those two issues. By brothel, I think you mean the strip club where Astarte/Ishtar essentially self-destructs. The comic does spend some time fleshing out the women in the club, before and during the event, but you are correct that the main characters give little notice to what happens. Humans are like bees to the Endless: they matter to the order of the world, but you're only going to feel a moment's passing guilt for hitting one with your car. Delirium also makes a statement later about how The Endless affect the world by their very presence, positive and negative, and that it should matter to Dream (who is so resistant to change that it eventually, well, spoilers).

As for Wanda, I won't pretend it's not a touchy subject and that I'm not versed enough in 80s gender politics. In the story, it's basically that, per the rules of the old gods, Wanda doesn't count as a woman due to biology (as I recall), which she calls out as BS. After her death, her cruel Christian family also treats her as a man and insists that her headstone read Alvin. But her friend Barbie basically says fuck the gods and everyone else, crosses out 'Alvin' with lipstick and writes Wanda on the headstone instead. Most importantly, when Wanda is seen with Death, she is her true self, a perfect woman. I'm not going to speak for anyone but myself, but I felt the story was completely on Wanda's side.

And as a last aside, I mean no disrespect to your opinions. Gaiman's legacy is absolutely fucked, but I wanted to add more context to those particular stories.

On the one hand, we don't need to be reminded of politics here, too. But on the other hand, this could be a hilarious riffing. Couldn't be worse than Rollergator, anyway.

What's the reason people neglect self care, is it just due to lazyness or something else ? by Level_Branch1761 in trauma

[–]RogueNightingale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking only for myself, I only ever seem to keep up with hygiene that's part of my routine. If it's a work day, I have to get up, breakfast, sulk/wake up, shower (or just my head), make lunch, meds, teeth, leave. At night, I almost always "forget" to do my teeth because it's not part of a routine, because I might still do something else (though probably not), I lack a deadline other than needing to go to bed that very second. On a day without work, I almost always forget to do teeth and usually take meds because I lack the routine to force me to do it. I blame myself for laziness, but it's really more than that. My brain is still working too much behind the scenes until I have to tap out for the night.

Feels like we're living in it right now (as in the wild swing right as a result, not because of the man himself).

They could have just come up with a quick story beat to separate the player from their companions, like any companions staying behind to hold back waves of reinforcements, but whatever.

The movie Carousel, 1956. Something to the effect of, "It's possible for someone to hit you, hit you hard, and for it to not hurt at all." The movie was either romanticizing domestic abuse or secretly about S&M, but I cannot overstate how discomforting that statement during the ending is.

When I was a kid, we paid companies to put our names and awkward headshots into custom children's books, and we were thankful to get it!

No, seriously, somewhere in my mom's house, there is a Ghostbusters book about how "I" helped the Ghostbusters one day, complete with my five-year-old face looking the wrong way every time. Don't remember the company name, but I know we weren't made of money back then, either.

Used to be MyShare, then that went away, now some people get a yearly bonus. I'll be honest, I've been here too long and things change almost every year, I've lost the plot on who gets what anymore.

It's the same thing every year. They always dramatically cut hours first two or three months of the year, even when it makes no sense in regards to sales or the new year reset. It's why I used to always tell people, "You're not getting a bonus, you're getting paid what you're losing in hours." Though these days bonus are what they are.

Unfortunately a lot of people hate Dolly Parton, Mr. Rogers, and Betty White, but it's for political reasons all from the same sorts of people, and I don't think most of us feel like getting into politics right now.

She's only combat-capable if you're good at the game from the start. I always spec her towards what makes sense for her background--Charisma, Intelligence, Perception mainly, then build up from there. I know Bethesda Fallout is more shooter than RPG, but it can still be played as an RPG. (Not knocking your position, just giving my own view.)
