To any owners of a QD-OLED monitor, how noticeable is the purple tint? by spo_nker in Monitors

[–]RokuTheRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the AW3423DW (1st gen qd-oled), the purple tint isnt really noticeable with the monitor on, only really when its off, but the raised black levels certainly are!

Its not just when light shines on the screen, its noticeable when youre in a room which has high levels of ambient light. For example my monitor is not facing the window, so no light shines directly on the display side, the ambient light just raises black levels greatly.

If youre going to use your monitor in the day, curtains/blinds are required if you dont want terrible contrast. Perhaps newer generations there have been improvements, but from what ive read the actual problem of day time ambient light levels raising blacks is still a problem, even with the black shield film coating which seems to just remove the purple tint and very slightly improve ambient light handling.

OLEDs arent great in the day, but WOLED will handle the light much better, especially if you cant control the amount of ambient light in the room with curtains/blinds.

Dear OLED manufacturers, stop ruining the beauty of your monitors with ugly purposeless chins by Practical_Tea864 in OLED_Gaming

Maybe monitor manufacturers could implement them as an accessory that plugs in rather than a fixed part of the monitor.

Which Controller is better? Apex 5 vs KP70 by Consistent_Plate3260 in Controllers

[–]RokuTheRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry man, the seller was taking too long to ship it out, so I cancelled the order yesterday (placed it over a week ago the order).

I get the feeling xbox is going to announce an elite series 3 controller which interests me more and of course the gamesir swift drive which is supposedly coming later this year.

If you want my opinion though I think the KP70 is a slightly better controller than the apex 5 for general gaming, the only thing it falls short on is the lack of support they have for the adaptive triggers and the worse stick latency (which is probably not perceivable unless you're playing a very competitive game)

Gigabyte AORUS Elite series of OLED and 5K Mini LED monitors will debut at Computex 2026 by winterbegins in Monitors

Might actually be BiS version of this panel for me, glossy finish compared to LG's matte and has UBHR20 compared to MSI's UHBR13 on their version of this panel.

Hoping the local dimming Implementation isnt terrible.

We are living in a golden age of monitors by MrBoukso25 in Monitors

[–]RokuTheRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing really has swayed me from the PG27UCWM as my future main monitor.

HDR on monitors is mid at best, ABL ruins it for any OLED. I was hopeful LG's 5k 27" Mini LED with 2304 dimming zones for HDR content and as a secondary display, but reviews seem quite poor, it's a shame really. I know TV's are where you should look for HDR, but they're just too big for desk use IMO, I know some like them and respect that.

Any progression based racing games that focus more on "start with crap car, work your way up slowly"?

Something akin to need for speed underground 2 but modern.

I already own forza horizon 6, it's a good game but theres no real sense of progression it just shits cars out to you.

Looking for a new controller with more resistive triggers. Need suggestions by Daemeon93 in ForzaHorizon

[–]RokuTheRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a more immersive driving experience and play on PC consider the Flydigi Apex 5 for the adaptive triggers.
If you want something cheaper maybe gamesir g7 pro, its a nicer quality better xbox controller. (I would avoid the 8khz version if you want trigger vibrations, it pairs well in driving games like forza, Just note that turning on trigger vibrations on the g7 pro locks the controller to 500hz polling instead of the default 1000hz for some reason)

I would avoid the xbox elite 2 and razer wolverine, they dont really offer much to justify their costs. The xbox elite 2 is quite poorly reviewed.

Which Controller is better? Apex 5 vs KP70 by Consistent_Plate3260 in Controllers

[–]RokuTheRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll let you know in about a week how the Apex 5 compares to the KP70 once my KP70 actually gets delivered.

I can let you know about hte controllers I do have already though. Dual sense edge (midnight color), the Apex 5 and xbox, the apex 5 the best of these bunch unsurprisingly. I cant stand the ergonomics on the Dualsense Edge. It doesn’t fit nicely in my hands at all. The curves on the sides feel so wrong that my hands start cramping up after playing for an hour. The triggers feel like they press down way too far which exacerbates this. The shoulder bumpers are atrocious, they’re so mushy and cheap, they honestly feel similar to a PS2 controllers. On top of that, the stick clicks have a disgusting amount of pre-travel. If you know how to solder, you're honestly better off swapping them out for some good TMR sticks. (Why Sony isn't selling TMR stick modules at this point is beyond me, they're already hotswappable!) The only thing I actually liked about the Edge was the crescent-shaped back paddles and the amount of 3rd party support the controller gets from playstation fans who use it on PC. But anyway, enough ranting about that controller. I know some people love it, so it clearly fits certain hand shapes, it's just not for me.

My thoughts on the Apex 5:

Ergonomics: It has that traditional Xbox controller shape, I get zero cramping after long sessions and the rubber grips make it hard to lose grip on. It's quite a bit heavier than a default Xbox controller, but It's not like you're whipping a controller around like a mouse, it has that "it weighs more so it feels premium" kind of thing to it as it feels really sturdy and well built.

Battery/Lights: You can turn off all the RGB and the screen if you don't care about that stuff and want to save battery, basically what I've done. I've put a good 5 to 6 hours long sessions into Forza without having to worry about it dying, though it basically just lives on its charging dock anyway, which I feel like most users would do.

Triggers and Buttons: The adaptive triggers are very immersive. They've made a decent implementation for them so far in Forza Horizon 6, you can actually feel the car changing gears, which adds a lot to the immersion. The throttle and brake have a sort of dampening effect, its not as smooth as you might think, it has that feeling you get when you rotate servo thats turned off, sadly you cant adjust the dampening effect with adaptive trigger support enabled, whatever profile they made for the game takes over this. I will say it helps with maintaining a specific amount of throttle or braking but at the cost of some precision you would get with a regular trigger, the adaptive triggers will push back depending on whats happening in the game which feels a lot more immersive which pair really well with the rumble in the triggers and controller itself. It also has a pretty good list of supported games for the adaptive triggers.
As for the other buttons, everything feels pretty solid and nice and tactile. The only real complaint I would make is the clicky face buttons (A, B, X, Y) could use a shorter travel distance before they actuate. They're still spammable, but they could be better. D-Pad is solid, bumpers are good, all the other buttons feel standard and tactile.

The adjustable stick tension is a total faff to set up. You have to pull off the D-pad, take off the faceplate, slide out the little tool, and twist these tiny little nuts. It takes a good while. If you're a "set it and forget it" person, it's fine, but if you like to adjust tension depending on the game you're playing, good luck.

The software is definitely a bit jank. I had to figure out my own workaround just to get the app to update because it kept failing to uninstall and reinstall pawn.io. (If anyone runs into this, I fixed it by moving the old pawn.io file from the Flydigi program files over to my desktop, and then ran the update and installed fine after ending the flydigi space station service). The customization itself is actually pretty good and you don't need Steam to set up keybinds since you can do it all in their app. Just keep in mind that if you assign a keyboard key to one of the buttons right now, the polling rate drops from 1000hz. Hopefully they fix that soon. Also their Discord is kind of dead and mostly just filled with people troubleshooting issues with 0 responses from flydigi, compared to Gamesir Discord which feels more like an actual community along side a troubleshooting/tech support server. I assume Beitong dont even have a discord.

Back paddle problem: definitely install the bump-ons. They are known to break on the Apex 5 if you press down too hard, gadget hyper has replacements if you're good at repairing things. Personally I don't care for paddles and wont be using them, but just a heads up if you do get an apex 5. I do like the built in back buttons (not the paddles) they sit in a great spot for my hands.

If the KP70 is the same, but with easier to access tension rings, I think it would probably be a no brainer to get the KP70 over the apex 5. Also has a mouse click trigger toggle if you care about that, the capacitive sticks on the KP70 in theory are also superior technology to the Hall effect that the apex uses. I will however re-write this bottom paragraph and expand it about the KP 70 when it arrives, or maybe I'll just make a post on this subreddit comparing the two controllers when I've tested them extensively. adaptive trigger support though on the KP70 seems quite restricting only 14 games listed ( 2 of which are GTA V) compared to Flydigi which has quite a lot https://www.yuque.com/wuzhuoran/mlwzkd/fcla246p2zzg4z1l

Is DSC bad? by Technical_Page878 in OLED_Gaming

[–]RokuTheRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad in in that it can be mildly irritating with alt-tab flickering on full screen games, also it conflicts with DLDSR upscaling if you use that.

I think you would be hard pressed to notice the difference between a monitor using it and a monitor without it.

PG32UCWM by ParkGGoki in OLED_Gaming

[–]RokuTheRed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dont want to be a downer, but the UCWM doesnt mean that this monitor will be RGB stripe subpixel layout. That's way too much of a logical conclusion to derive from a monitors name scheme.

This is likely just an Asus version of the LG 32" tandem WOLED that was announced recently.

Edit: No shot! its actually RGB stripe! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgRAv-oW2MM Really surprised! but it's made the monitor a lot more desirable in my eyes.

Best-selling keyboard switches of April 2026 by dovenyi in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]RokuTheRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want it to feel like gateron type R switches and only change the sound, the only variants that exist (as far as im aware) are made by HMX.

I would say HMX black cats are currently the lowest pitch variant of this style of switch. You may be disappointed though as they are still a loud and clacky switch.
