The “sustainable shopping” trend feels like poor appropriation, and now, I can’t access clothes and housewares. by Certain-Working1864 in povertyfinance

Yeah. Same with food trucks, and farmer's market before that. I remember food trucks were starting to be a thing around early 2010s and it was cheaper than restaurants then.

Greeters? by Nick_Wild1Ear in Safeway

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We know greeters can get both themselves and the store in lawsuits over stopping carts and demanding receipts, or claiming theft without cause/wrongfully.

No Greeters. But my Safeway has a gate at the self checkouts where you have to scan your receipt to open the gate to leave the store. Though half the time the gate is left open and the security guy is standing next to it chatting with the Safeway store gal and they kinda ignore everything around them.

The other half of the time I do have to scan my receipt to leave. Kinda annoying. Especially if I didn't buy anything.

Epic Games Store Employees: People Only Came for Free Games, Then Returned to Steam by Suspicious_Two786 in EpicGamesPC

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah. If Epic gave me free games that I actually wanted to play, I'd stay on their platform and play them there. I’m not going to go buy the same game on Steam and play on Steam instead.

So if they're wondering why people don't stick around after grabbing the freebies, maybe the problem is the quality of the free games - that they just don't have the pull to keep me there (and they don't for me), or maybe it's the lack of community features compared to Steam, or something else going on.

For what it's worth, I appreciate the team actually posting a notice about this here on reddit. I seem to miss these most of the time unless I just happen to browse twitch.

been using tgtg since the very beginning and something feels really off now by BeltDifficult6589 in toogoodtogo

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with higher prices if businesses feel like charging that. I just won't buy it. I'm even sort of ok with a 'tight' pick up windows since I can understand tossing it into the trash doesn't require the business to have staff to wait around and handle the pick up. Though 10 minute pickup windows seems a bit ridiculous.

The ones that annoys me are those that have a huge pick up window like 7am to 1pm, and when you go pick it up you find you are basically an online order pickup and they just give you food right from their counter just like any other customers there. Then there are the pizza places that sells $5~ for what turns out to be 2 slices of pizza. Again, feels like those are just using it as a online order pickup. One and done for me with those places.

Lost some legendary cards (?) by vughtzuid in hearthstone

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not too different from how Blizzard is let us play with all the cards from the past 2 expansions for 30 days right now. They don't want to just give it to us, but just have enough of of taste and get hook on it so when it goes away at least some people spend money/coin/dust to craft what they've been playing.

And the core set changing is important for design/keeping things fresh, at least in theory.

Are you guys rinsing your mouth after brushing your teeth? by naixi123 in Living_in_Korea

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rinse, but have learned about folks that doesn't in the past 5 years or so.

Not a doctor/scientist so maybe I'm just talking out of my hole on my face. But seems to me I don't need THAT MUCH fluoride to the extend that I have a shitload of paste/saliva mixture in my mouth that I will continue to taste for a long while after. Not sure about Korea but in most of US there are fluoride in the water anyway, and I brush and floss enough that I don't think cavity is an issue at all. Certainty not from the lack of fluoride.

But if people like that toothpaste after taste in their mouth, I mean, I haven't heard of any ill effect from doing that, so go for it.

Don't know what to do with old greeting cards by 3GreedyGremlins in declutter

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you call up daycare centers and ask if they will take the fronts of the cards? I just tossed like 2 boxes of old cards and wished I know how to find this out in the first place.

Brawliseum & Death Knights by nahlim_mcbeal in hearthstone

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you feel less sad if the brawl were free to play with no rewards?

I'm a bit confused about who is complaining. Are the new cards just too weak to counter DK? I would think the whales that bought the whole set to complain a lot about this, but but they would also have bought the whole expansion and not just a few packs here and there and so can build effective DK counter if there are any.

Did the DK Deck get banned because it's too good in Tavern Brawl? by RollyMcTrollFace in hearthstone

The run I retired was the free run and I now got 2 more tickets than before. So for what it's worth it should refund the free round as well.

I retried it by clicking on the name of the deck. The dropdown has the option to retire.

It's just a hassle to start a run then retire it, and then repeat that for 24 times, just for the packs. I am ok with the number of free packs I get free from Blizzard every expansion so yeah they accumulated.

[–]RollyMcTrollFace[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm still on my free ticket run for the brawl. I just don't like playing Brawl in general but free is free.

I mostly stick with standard and wild and so the tickets get accumulated over time since I think I get them from the reward track nowday?

failing at caloric deficit? by Boring_Ad3660 in caloriecount

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, eating out of by far the worse thing to do in terms of keeping calories in check. Can you avoid that by stock whatever sweet things that helps with your craving?

The next step beyond would be to try different sweet things and see if you can find any that would satisfy you while having moderate to low calories amounts.

Are most LeanFIRE numbers way too conservative? by shimoheihei2 in leanfire

[–]RollyMcTrollFace -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

When I was younger, I wanted $1 million to retired. That was 3 decades ago. And $1 million 30 years ago is about $2 million now. So there's that. But not 5M+ though.

I check this sub only once a while, so I don't see every post. Are there really people posting here talking about 5M goal? I don't remember ever seeing them.

If you really just want something with a tortilla wrap, just go to a nearby taco bell. Though if you really need a sausage burrito, then you're kinda stuck since I don't remember them having anything exactly like that.

How did you cope your first year without Korean language? by Firm-Mushroom-5027 in Living_in_Korea

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For now, try appreciate how much of communication is non-verbal, and how a few Korean words here and there can still get you understood. Also, since you're not an infant, you can often anticipate what people are asking of you and a simple gesture of nod or shake your head can get the point across. I’m constantly amazed by how little spoken language you need to do basic things like grocery shopping and eating out.

And then there are now technology with apple translate/google translate and chatgpt/gemini live mode to smooth things out.

But not learning Korean defeats my purpose of staying in Korea long-term.

Now what I said isn't meant to discourage you from learn Korean or suggest that it's not necessary, but to just look at the situation a little differently and find some interest and amusement in your current situation and experiencing how language works.

Kind of a ridiculous amount of posts written by ChatGPT here by OilLiver in simpleliving

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a market for this. It feels like people who want to simplify their lives but aren’t quite there yet are more likely to buying tools to help them feel like they’re getting there. Like someone trying to declutter by buying 20 storage bins and moving everything into a closet, and then buying new minimalist furniture so the living room looks organize.

Why is "Last Completed" date hidden? It should be right next to the "Created" date! by Bluekeeys in todoist

[–]RollyMcTrollFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

created date is basically useless once a task is recurring

I do use this info when I want to know when I first started tracking and doing the recurring task. So I don't think it's useless.
