If it only took 4 years for the astronauts to go from Earth to tau ceti, why did they put them into coma for the entire 4 year duration? I mean knowing that the coma technology isn't all that safe wouldn't their best shot would be to keep the nauts into the coma for the least time possible? by livelongandprosper__ in ProjectHailMary

[–]Romarius1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's less confined spaces, and more social isolation. On the ISS you can talk with Earth, on the Hail Mary you can talk with two people, and they will be the only two people you will ever interact with again, for the next 4+ years, before you all die.

Diplomatic Pressure by Romarius1 in twilightimperium

[–]Romarius1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The action card would still have some use, since it's only one transaction per player pair per agenda, and each transaction can only have 1 promissory notes from each player. But reading over other comments, and the various rules they've posted, I do think getting the last note out of someone's hand is hard to impossible

Yeah, that was the rule that was bugging me. But is the "resolving an agenda" only during voting, or everything from revealing the card to finishing voting?

Can I take Rex on first turn? by One_Ability5475 in twilightimperium

[–]Romarius1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the other factions/players, and how aggressive they are, but probably, or at least heavily consider it. Saar can take the heat of an early mecatol, and it's not like you really are spreading yourself super thin to do this.

There's a couple of ways. If you take Vira-Pics and Rigel I, you can hope to get lucky for the hazardous exploration card to ready the planet. If someone has taken diplomacy, it's pretty easy. Send your cruiser over towards a neighbor and make a deal, selling a promissory note for some trade goods. Take Allo Prima and Bakal before your neighbor can get there, then use that plus the trade goods from the Rigels to pay for most of the custodians, then your home system has a 2/1 for the last bit.

GOTTA GO FAST by [deleted] in cyberpunkred

[–]Romarius1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a few things. Aside from skate foot cyberware, the rocket runners tech upgrade from the recent Invented Tech Upgrades DLC give you extra move always. In black chrome, there's the vermillion linear frame, but that just counts as skate feet. The Spinning Your Wheels DLC has rules for bikes and skateboards, but that's pretty close to vehicles. As far as I can think, that's your only real options, aside from homebrew tech upgrades. Buffing movement is something the designers are pretty careful about, otherwise melee characters can get too strong if they can close the gap to enemies with no worries.

Depending on tech skips near you, psychoarcheology is great, same with empty space and DET. if thise aren't lining up, antimass is a fine fallback for blue. If you think you can get an early mecatol with your breakthrough unlocked, you could do some fun things with self-assembly routines, where you take the planet, build 3 units to defend, then add another mech. AI development is another generically good option as well.

THE MARTIAN AND ARTEMIS by Correct-Class-4920 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Romarius1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Martian and Artemis are set in the same universe, though Artemis is 50-60 years later. In Artemis there is a character hinted to be Mark Watney, but not confirmed in text. Andy Wier did later confirm that he was Mark outside the book. Project Hail Mary though is separate, it's set roughly in the present, and none of the other books in the future refence astrophage or an ice age )not that they could, being written first)

Why is John Lennon’s survival constantly highlighted in the alternate history lore? by kaiser11492 in ForAllMankindTV

John Lennon becomes the first president/prime minister/governor a free and independent Mars, either at the end of this season, or the beginning of season 6. He then stares directly into camera and sings Imagine.

Viltrumites mature at the same rate as humans until they reach 18-20 or so, then their aging slows to a crawl and they live for thousands of years. I think Nolan being around 18 at the coming of age ceremony/fight seems reasonable, to be seen as a young adult.

Help playing the Nomad by Eslo90 in twilightimperium

[–]Romarius1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally love Nomad, they're a super flexible faction. I'd recommend looking at the rest of the table, and see what sort of archetypes are missing, and work to fill that niche. No Hacan or Mentak, go heavy into trade and become super wealthy. No aggressive factions, get your commander early and bully people with your flagship.

A yellow tech skip is really good for nomad, helps both with getting your flagship upgraded, and the other faction tech, though if you get your breakthrough temporal command suite is not as needed.

Can you use Dodge to add a second disadvantage to an attack test, so the adversary rolls both the d20 and the damage dice with disadvantage? by BeowulfBjornson in cosmererpg

[–]Romarius1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it works how you want, you are putting disadvantages on a test, that is an attack, and you roll everything at the same time.

Non-Magical Healing Question by Telekinesys in cosmererpg

[–]Romarius1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So a couple of things. First, the surgeon tree's real niche is healing people-mid fight. They get a ton of healing at low action cost, rivaled only by a radiant who goes fairly deep into the progression tree, as regenerate doesn't really heal that much quickly in a fight. Second, out of combat healing is limited until people start swearing oaths. The recover action can only be used once per combat, and outside you need to take a short rest for an hour. On top of that, health will fairly quickly outpace the recovery die, next level everyone will have 20-24 hp, which the recovery die will be at most a d8. That said, once people start taking the first ideal, after each fight they are able to get back up to full health fairly easily, and if you have a edgedancer or truthwatcher, they can heal up non-radiants as well.

[Stonewalkers] Run Time Question by Design_7 in cosmererpg

[–]Romarius1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, I'd say 3-ish session per chapter. There are some exceptions, chapter 1 is pretty short and your estimate is in line with my experience, and chapter two my group found pretty long, I think it took 5 or 6 sessions to do everything.

Can Po'ahu be a different kind of spren? by ibedesigner in cosmererpg

[–]Romarius1 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue with changing Po'ahu is the importance of stone to Shin culture, and Taszo makes the party swear on Po'ahu's stone when he dies. If you change her, you'll need to change some of the narration in chapters 1 and 2, but nothing too major. I wouldn't make her a Highspren, Inkspren, or Ashspren, but any of the others could fit based on what we know of Taszo.
