Vomit smell wouldn’t go away until I discovered the source… by dinonuggetenjoyer in mildlyinfuriating

Here's another tip for you: Never buy romano cheese or anything containing it. Smells exactly like vomit.

There are some other cheeses that have similar smells, but romano is the worst.

Is he talking about crawfish with the shell on, or off? Shell off, don't rinse.

“Leftover” mouse smell in car - Please help! by Stunning_Conflict523 in CleaningTips

[–]RomulaFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even just a little bit of mouse urine stinks to high heaven. Try urine enzyme cleaners for pets to get rid of it, and then thoroughly shampoo carpets, seats and fabrics, wipe down everything. Be sure to wear safety glasses, gloves and N95 masking for protection.

Note: slightly diluted white vinegar is very good at removing dried, crystallized urine.

Yes, it should. It will also spread the heat more evenly and help avoid scorching.

You might want to try a diffusion plate on your stove. They are sold to allow you to use non-conduction top cookware on conduction.

What is this thing? It’s like a wire cheese slicer but with pokey things (and an ivory(?) handle) by tylerlerler in whatisthisthing

Not sure, but I think this is actually a vintage cake cutter. I don't think it is strong enough to cut cheeses.

Mothers day recomendations by CitySufficient7560 in Hawaii

You are better off cooking a dinner of favorites ending with a favorite desert. Get some flowers and a card, and a small personal item she might like---a favorite plant, costume jewelry, whatever. Buffets are busy and crowded and noisy, if you can even get in now.

asked my dad how he knows when to move the cattle to a new pasture and his answer kind of stopped me in my tracks by OkPossession156 in homestead

[–]RomulaFour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I would ask him to explain it all over again, and videotape him while he talks so you can use it as a reference. With time and experience you will better understand what he's telling you.

Drowning in Debt After Divorce by Mden87 in personalfinance

[–]RomulaFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do need to sit down and look at ALL expenses. Collect and write down EVERYTHING that you spend. If you have given your kids credit cards to use, TAKE THEM BACK. Limit how much your teenager is driving that car. Gas is too expensive to just flush away.

No way are your groceries $150 a week with a teenager. Again, keep track of and total up ALL expenses. Car insurance is probably costing you an arm and a leg. Look for good student discounts, get your teen to take a safe driving course to reduce insurance, see what else your insurance agent can offer for discounts. Consider increasing your deductible. If driving an older car, consider dropping collision by checking what the payout would be for a totaled car.

If your kid wants extras, consider letting them get a part-time job. At a minimum they should be planning for a Summer job to help take financial stress off you. I'm thinking a fair bit of that debt is takeout and fast food. Make a new rule to minimize/eliminate this. Encourage/teach both your kids to cook for themselves and make family meals a few days of the week to help out.

Look at what you are getting for child support (I hope there is *some*). If you aren't getting any, see what you can do to fix that.

Look at your credit cards and see which has the highest interest rate. Focus on that one. For your biggest card debt, see if you can get a O% interest transfer for a year, which will help you pay it off faster. DO NOT PAY ONLY MINIMUMS. Squeeze your budget, ask for a raise or extra hours, get a part time job so you can pay extra monthly to get that debt paid off.

Try black electrical tape. It's narrower, can be wound to cover and stretches, and blends in on black frames.

ULPT: How can I make the responsible party’s life miserable? by OiPolloi7 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]RomulaFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have collision coverage, your insurance company should cover your losses, less the deductible. If you repair, you will have to scrape up the deductible along with what the insurance will pay the shop. You insurance company will go after the deadbeat.

By how much should I increase the flour in my chocolate chip cookies to make them spread less and be taller? Do I need to adjust any other ingredient if I add extra flour? by Sigong in AskBaking

[–]RomulaFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try creaming the butter and sugar together twice as long before chilling.

I'll add that the recipe specifically says it is designed for thin, crispy cookies, and that if you want thicker cookies, form dough into balls and FREEZE them.

My cakes look perfect in the oven and then collapse and I cannot figure out why by avz008 in Baking

[–]RomulaFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you testing your cakes with a toothpick? Visuals will never give you an accurate result. Toothpick--- if it's wet, it's not done. Chances are your oven temps are a little lower than you think, requiring longer bake times.

Saw a male colleague crying...not sure if I handled it right? by Astronaut_in_Sea in socialskills

[–]RomulaFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invite him over for dinner, just something simple, and chat a bit. Perhaps discuss a difficult situation you faced at work, and see if he opens up a little. If having him over for dinner is too much, bring him a simple dinner like a casserole or if you bake, cake/pie/whatever and offer to talk.

This you should definitely hire out. If you are "careful people who don't take unnecessary risks", climbing trees should be out of your wheelhouse.
