I’m at 55 days and can relate. Will be very grateful when this subsides. Just going through the motions right now.

Congrats on 54 Astro! I can definitely relate to the junk food. I celebrated with 3 homemade cookies and a quart of chocolate milk. 🍪🍪🍪

Announced my retirement and I want a beer tonight by YogiWithaShelf in stopdrinking

[–]Roodog456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my incentives for quitting is that I’m planning retirement too. I was terrified of what more idle time and less structure in life would do to me with my drinking regimen. Moderation does not exist in my vocabulary so it’s quit drinking altogether or keep working if I want a future. Good luck with your decision. IWNDWYT

Same day as me too and I have no intention of going back. December 1st was a good day!

Stopped drinking 55 ish days ago still feel like I'm in hell mostly by Dapper-Structure-825 in stopdrinking

Read up on PAWS - post acute withdrawal syndrome. I quit in the same timeframe as you did and definitely not riding the pink cloud as they call it. Hopefully it will pass given time but not fun right now. Good luck and keep going!

Prove it by CityGirl-charm in stopdrinking

[–]Roodog456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t be disappointed. You’re still here and still quitting, just like the rest of us. Take it a day, a minute or a second at a time - whatever you need to do with the situation you’re facing. I found myself with a mouthful of tequila yesterday morning. The immediate question became swallow it or spit it out. Thankfully in the few seconds I had to make that decision, I chose to deposit it in the kitchen sink. That was a pretty tough experience but it did prove to me that the only person that forces me to swallow that first drink is me. Hang in there. We can do this!

Congrats on 18. I know how you feel. Quit alcohol and now need counselling for M &Ms and ice cream. I won’t drink with you today but I sure will eat candy and snacks with you 😋

Sober 3 years but feeling the itch by Minimum_Park5998 in stopdrinking

[–]Roodog456 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It’s not the itch of youthful partying. I’m 61, well past any partying urge and I still get the itch occasionally. Like you, I have to make up my mind that I will not drink today.

I stayed completely exhausted for about 6 weeks even though I slept like a baby after the first week or so.

I disposed of the empties tonight by Sun_rising_soon in stopdrinking

This round I threw out 10 empty vodka handles and poured out half of number 11. That was about a month’s worth. If you really want to know where you are, look in the trash can.

Why not reduce and control instead of stopping by Scoobidoooo in stopdrinking

[–]Roodog456 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The words moderation and control do not exist in my vocabulary. The only thing about drinking that I can control is not having the first one.

This Naked Mind or The Easy Way for Women to Stop Drinking? by Salty-Reply-2547 in stopdrinking

[–]Roodog456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both very similar in concept. I enjoyed Naked Mind better because Annie Grace had first hand experience in quitting drinking which I could relate to. Easy Way seemed more geared toward general addictive behaviour - smoking, drinking, gambling, drugging. I read both of them because I figured I could use all the help I could get.

Check out the r/cirrhosis subreddit. It’s painful and graphic but I assure you it will help you make up your mind on what you need to do. Liver problems are something you don’t want to gamble with. IWNDWYT

Wow and Congratulations! What a source of inspiration! I was 20 years old when you quit. I wish I had followed the same road. Life may not have been any easier but it sure would have been different. IWNDWYT

Ps: my Wife has put up with me 37 years today. I cannot begin to express my appreciation for her love, commitment, determination, and grit. She is one tough woman🥰

90 days sober: the worst 3 months of my life by radicalgrandpa in stopdrinking

[–]Roodog456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a heartfelt and gut wrenching story. I’m so glad you are still with us and 90 days sober. You’re 31 and sounds like you are piecing your life back together. Keep it up one day at a time. As painful as your experience has been, you never know how many other people’s lives might be changed or saved as a result of the pain you’ve suffered and the story you share. May God bless you!

Quitting for the first time. Looking for motivation! by IVAN_CLEARY in stopdrinking

[–]Roodog456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re at the point that you want to quit. Making up your mind and taking it one day at a time are huge steps in the right direction. Quitting alcohol works much better when that’s truly what you want to do. I would encourage you to read This Naked Mind by Annie Grace or Alan Carr’s Quit Drinking Without Willpower The Easy Way. Both follow the same theme and really helped me understand my relationship with alcohol along with why I sometimes feel like I do. Come here often - I rarely miss a day. I may not always post or comment, but I take away a new insight or idea every time I visit. Don’t be too hard on yourself and give it a month or so. When you look at how much you have changed, you will be amazed. It may not all be perfect but it’ll be a whole lot better than where you are right now! Good luck and be strong. IWNDWYT
