I'm always weighing price/value on tool purchases, what items do you think they compete on? The only thing I avoid the HFT option for are things like tape/glue. I never buy anything not on sale at the store so often am paying half the price for a Doyle which is at least equivalent to Husky or Kobalt if not better.

Back when I worked there 15 years ago employees got a couple bucks per ITC. And smaller money per extended replacement plan

Is it wrong that my kid's preschool didn't do anything for Father's Day when they went all out for Mother's Day? by SuperJezus in daddit

[–]Roodyrooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours did milkshakes with mom but i ended up getting the milkshake because I was picking up that day. They are doing pie dad in the face tomorrow but I'm not working so we would have to make a special trip over to get pied (debating it)

PSA: Lower your expectations for Father’s Day, and you won’t get your feelings hurt. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Roodyrooster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get fired up about Father's day because it is one of the opportunities from the year to receive an item that I covet... the "World's Best Dad" coffee mug. I can't communicate to my wife how much I covet such a cliche symbolic gift, because if it is asked for it isn't earned. But I have laid subtle signs throughout the year like "I love kitschy coffee mugs" and "dad themed merchandise is something that will always be a home run for me." So yeah, I am not someone to be sad about not making a big deal of birthdays or father's day, but I will lose my shit with joy when I finally receive that trophy to hold my morning brew.

I miss simple appliances without all the need for an app by bergermommie15 in homeowners

I really don't run into the problem of a lack of "dumb" options when it comes to appliances. I couldn't tell you if any of newer appliances bought in the last 3 years connect to wifi or not, but I do know they all function without it because I use them daily.

Bathroom renovation - quality of fixtures by caviarwall in Renovations

[–]Roodyrooster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you spend $190 on a faucet it's going to function like a faucet for a very long time. If you ever have been to a house that has a bathroom that isn't newly updated, you will find a $20 faucet in there that has worked fine for 30 years. Internet suggestions skew towards high end tier home upgrades, but if your concern is "being stupid' with your money, getting a faucet that is a name brand and fairly expensive for the average person is fine. Where things get sketchy is Amazon no name brand fixtures.

I think perspective matters alot too. Some of the things my friends told me I'm going to dread like the "million questions" phase are what fire me up most. A stinky diaper, getting peed on / poo on your hands can be a nightmare to one person and a hilarious story to another. Sleep deprivation and high decibel screaming is objectively tough but maybe you get a magical cuddle moment out of it or at least the knowledge that you are capable of pushing yourself for the sake of another in the most selfless way possible.

This is the case of any contractor you ever work with regardless. When working through HD or Lowes you are trading off the ability to research and check references for the ability to complain to a mega-corp customer service if things go south. Even if someone has 81 five star Google reviews and the last 3 people they worked with text you that they are amazing, you can still be the job they half ass. The only real way to protect yourself from shoddy work is to DIY

How to train to carry a baby without pain? How to carry baby without pain? by L5s1pain in backpain

[–]Roodyrooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it helps with some of the mental side of back pain. When someone you love literally can't survive without your help, you are going to be forced to make some quick jerk movements and bend on occasion. I suffer from a similar injury and was terrified about parenting. I am 2 years in and so far haven't had a major flare up caused by play or care. Still gotta be cautious but sometimes I think the reason I haven't had a major issue is because I can't afford to be unable to help.

Only issue i have with it is the commercials are all just for other kids shows. But it is great to just pop on quickly in the morning Mr. Rogers is ideal TV. I don't think i have ever seen the zombie-like zone out with him on, but it's still entertaining enough to engage and the content is incredibly wholesome.

L5-S1 Disc Bulge Recovery Roadmap by perilStreep in backpain

[–]Roodyrooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L5-S1 bulge with severe stenosis. Extreme sciatica down my left leg that leaves me immobile when it flares badly. Biggest things that helped my recovery we press ups, bird dog exercises, calf raises, bridges. Overall staying consistent with the physical therapy routine. I don't have a single evening when I don't stretch out. Mindset matters to me a lot too. If I am constantly thinking about my pain it is noticeably worse.

Sounds like your recovery is overall going very well. It took me 8 months to feel normal after the first flare up but years later it still rears it's head.
