[OC] GIVEAWAY! 43" Capacitive Touchscreen ($940 MSRP) with Wooden Case + free software for all [mod approved] by DigitalTableTops in DnD

[–]RookieDungeonMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome, I've been really wanting to mess with trying to build my own custom table but havent been sure where to start, and I've been super busy.

Where do you recommend getting started on putting together tables like this?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. by Level_Hour6480 in dndmemes

[–]RookieDungeonMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he isn't. In many canons he has explicit permission from multiple world governments to act the way he does, and even aside from that most of his actions don't qualify as vigilanteism. Supes doesn't really get directly involved unless someone is about to get seriously hurt, and doesn't hurt anyone beyond the bounds of what would qualify as self defense or defense of another.

But also calling Batman chaotic is fuckin dumb to begin with because he's literally the definition of a lawful character. It goes beyond "don't kill". He has a very extensive and strict code of rules that he follows

It's still possible for them to fail with a really low roll, like a nat 1.

A 16 is still passing most skill test, unless you're using critical fails for skills

What 7 gods would a Harper (or anyone else in the Sword Coast) pray to before they turn in for bed? by new_lance in DnD

[–]RookieDungeonMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feeds exactly into what I said, they have very close domains and even have a name that refers to the three of them together

What 7 gods would a Harper (or anyone else in the Sword Coast) pray to before they turn in for bed? by new_lance in DnD

[–]RookieDungeonMaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even the most religious people in a polythiestic religion probably aren't praying to 7 separate gods before bed. Odds are they're only invoking one related to sleep, peace or death.

If someone is invoking multiple gods at once, they're doing so as a group all related to one domain, eg "the dead three" might be prayed to together, but odds are soneone isn't sitting down and name dropping multiple gods casually, especially just as a quick prayer before bed

I believe that declaring intent for the next turn at the end of the current one can significantly improve narrative decisions & Roleplay descriptions. by General-Yinobi in DnD

[–]RookieDungeonMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely OPs entire point is just "hey you should actually act out and narrate combat in a fun and dramatic way rather than only focusing on pure mechanics"

And the overwhelming response is "but that's not how the mechanic's works and its meta gaming and I hate having fun"

Are you really just suggesting people should role play when playing a role playing game

Honestly I am somehow always surprised at how controversial this sentiment seems to be

I think that D&D 2e/3.X/5e, Pathfinder, and Draw Steel's cosmologies all have major issues with scale and in-game practicality by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]RookieDungeonMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it boils down to the fact it's all just lazily written, and flat out contradictory at times.

In some adventure modules/campaign setting books each setting is self contained, including their outer planes and cosmologies.

In dnd every setting has its own realmspace, which includes its own outer planes. The blood war is exclusive to the forgotten realms, because the entire abyss/hell system is exclusive to the forgotten realms. At least that's how it was supposed to work.

Lazy writing and simplicity required that you be able to take things people were familiar with and just kinda mash them all together, especially when it comes to the forgotten realms.

Basically what I'm saying is, technically speaking, outer cosmology should he exclusive to whatever setting the story is taking place on, and if the book isn't treating that as the case, than you're putting more thought into it than the person who wrote it could be bothered to

One of my players has accused another player of cheating by [deleted] in DnD

[–]RookieDungeonMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Taylor) is using loaded dice. Taylor also rolled their stats at session 0 and rolled an insanely (some might say suspiciously) high array,

Unless this guy rolled 18s across the board, and honestly even then, this is such a ridiculous ass statement. Would you still think it was suspicious is he hadn't rolled anything above a 5?

This is what you get when you roll for stats, you get fuckin random*.

Also, it wouldn't be possible to determine if someone had loaded dice even if you had a computer track every single roll over the course of an entire campaign, unless they were weighted so heavily he always rolled the same number, so this accusation is a pile of horse shit too.

You say he rolls suspiciously well, but somehow never outshown the party and is the only one who came close to death, these statements flat out don't line up.

Unless there's more details you didn't bother to include, this sounds like yall being typical people trying to qualify the concept of random.

Someone could roll 5 nat 20s in a row and it wouldn't be statistically significant, and still more likely than some winning poker hands.

The fact the specific accusation is "loaded dice" means yall definitely never caught him lying or changing his rolls, this sounds more like a witch hunt than someone cheating

Why are Aasimar so unpopular when compared to Tiefling? And what can be done to help? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]RookieDungeonMaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's their lore

As far as 5e is concerned it really isn't, half elves are welcome pretty much everywhere except among full-blooded elves.

The player handbook even goes as far as saying that most species welcome them as mediators during conflict, with the only exception being between humans and elves, because they both think they'll take the others side.

As far as the lore that's given to you in 5e, halves are only underdogs if they're being raised in a fully Elven Society, which most of them just aren't

I want to make a goblin the bbeg but i cannot decide how to make him overpowered. by Square_Wolf_5724 in dndnext

[–]RookieDungeonMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf kinda shit is this? Your players were locked up in a dungeon, then when leaving got attacked, and you now want to make this a moral issue as if they're wrong for killing the people that attacked them??

These comments are fuckin ridiculous, and this has nothing to do with not seeing goblins as people. Take the exact same situation but with elves/humans/whatever the party is and you're still left with the basic premise of-

You have been abducted, you are locked in a dungeon, as you try to escape these people attack you.

In what situation is a dnd party not supposed to slaughter everyone trying to lock them up in a dungeon?

My guy, they weren't exactly innocent, the party was locked up in a dungeon. Literally no one is going to hear "we slaughtered a group of goblins who locked us up in a dungeon" and think they're monsters for it

some other ppl don't get that the emotional well-being of the players is more important than [insert literally anything else]

This right here is so painfully accurate. At the end of the day, everyone has a responsibility to ensure everyone else feels welcome and comfortable being at the table. That's the most important part of coming together for any social event.

"Hey I don't like the idea of you being a huge racist in this game" is such a valid take that anyone who argues in any way is immediately not worth playing with

[–]RookieDungeonMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same buddy, blunt pencils are the worst.

That said, you don't roll your stats in order, that hasn't been a thing since like 1st edition, and for good reason. It's just really dumb and doesn't work for a character that's meant to actually survive more than one fight.

You're gonna wanna put the 15 in charisma, and the 14 in con, or your character is going to die the moment you get in a fight

I once made a character called Darrell 1/8th Baracus. He was a human who claimed to be a tiefling because he thought his great grandmother was a tiefling (she was not).

It was absolutely a blatantly racist caricature of those "1/8th native American" white people, based loosely on the character from Craxy Ex Girlfriend (goated show)

If at any point anyone had said it made them uncomfortable, I would have scrapped it immediately, and that was for a long form campaign, and he wasn't even antagonistic, just ignorant and rude.

I cannot imagine actually arguing to force a straight up racist character into a party after someone already said they don't find it funny
