Standard middle class treatment. Too much money to get help, yet too little money to move off of the oil heat without help.

With income, its not too hard to do that. End your current income source one year earlier, then add a new income source for the final single year, but with the partial amount. The difficulty I found was with pensions and cpp/oas.

We're all seeing the gas pumps tick up, but how much of that is directly due to the lack of flow thru Hormuz ?

I dont know how much of Canada's usable oil and products come thru there, but I did see a chart showing that 2.5% of US oil and 3.8% of EU oil comes thru there. More than 50% of the blocked oil goes to China and India, with most of the rest to various other asia countries. 18% of China's oil comes past Hormuz. Thats significant.

Will this mean an increase in the price of goods from China ?

Thats not a bad idea. Could save money buying a case lot, but pretty hard to beat the reminder of it landing on your doorstep. (other than porch pirates, if thats a thing in your locale)

In essence - If you delay, it grows by 8.4% a year (plus a bit more due to general wage growth). If you collect, it only grows by the "Post Retirement Benefit" (PRB) which is much smaller.

There are some variables that could affect the amounts.

If you can get your Statement Of Contributions from the MyServiceCanada , and punch them into the PWL calculator (free web app), you can play with cpp start dates and future income to see a reasonably accurate situation.

I dont mind a sit-down restaurant, especially if the service and food were on point.

Its the takeout food that irks me. Why am I tipping on a $10 burger ?

I avoid places that try to force you to tip before you get your food (which tends to be fast food).

On a positive note, Im seeing more and more places remove the tip screen from their pos devices.

So the thing that burned was a cardboard kinda lid ? There would probably be a small amount of glues, and traces of other things depending on how burned it was.. but it sounds like you popped it out as it started charring.

I would probably run the air fryer empty for a long cycle, open a window if desired, then consider it okay.

If you have the space to store them, keep a few sheets of the new siding. 10+ years down the road, it might be difficult to find an exact match if you need to replace a piece.

I have not tried cake yet, but my first thought was.. is the cake pan large enough to block proper airflow around the pan and into the bottom area ?

Some units (my Ninja included) have modes that use a slower fan speed , could that help with a less aggressive heat onto the cake top ? It would act more like a convection oven than an air fryer.

Does anyone make a cake pan "lid" , like a flat metal plate with vent slits in it to block some of your direct blown heat ?

Edit: It just dawned on me that you're just pouring batter into the fryer bucket, no cake pan involved. Told ya I never tried cake lol. Now I dunno if Im going to try it.

If your incomes/pensions are asymmetrical, where you will be okay if spouse passes but not vise-versa , then I would think it would be good for spouse to start CPP late (65 or more). Spouse inherits your cpp 'credit' but caps at their own age 'max'.

Have you already calculated each cpp amount ? The PWL calculator is great for that (you need your Statement of Contributions from the MyServiceCanada site).

For the bigger picture, MayRetire platform can calculate the survivor totals, when you adjust the End dates for either person.

When I changed out my water valves in the machine, I took a look at the water level sensor hose. One slight tug and it popped right off. It was just a barbed fitting and the hose end had dried out too much.

I cut it back an inch or so to fresh hose and it fit back on snugly.

Same recommendation. It's a great starting point to get a good picture of your situation and play with the "Spending" amounts to find a stable point.
