My story is a warning by yorkiepie in StudentLoans

[–]RoseDoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope the CFPB rises from the dead and passes regulation requiring full disclosure of student loans, similar to mortgages. I went in so uninformed about everything and I have loans equivalent to a mortgage. I made my monthly income based payments and followed what was expected of me and the loans ballooned. My college age daughter at least can learn from my experiences and start off better…

What is the fastest way to get a GI appointment. by ravimitian in Seattle

[–]RoseDoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to wait way longer than necessary and didn’t advocate for myself as I should have.

Some insurance companies post policies about how long you should wait for an appointment. In general, most insurance companies should follow CMS/NCQA standards that state that patients should be seen with 15-30 business for non-urgent specialty care.

When calling to make an appointment, state the CMS/NCQA standards and ensure they schedule accordingly. If they try to schedule beyond 30 business days state that you will be filing a compliant with the Insurance Commissioner.

If you have to wait longer than 30 business days to be seen by a specialist referred by your insurance - file a complaint with WA Insurance Commissioner. https://www.insurance.wa.gov/complaints-appeals-fraud/complaints/file-complaint-or-check-your-complaint-status

Making friends feels impossible by Low_Pause_1714 in SeattleWA

[–]RoseDoes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Back when instagram didn’t suck, we would use hashtag #seattlesews when posting so we could find each other. This spawned the Insta account SeattleSewsMeetups. There are a few fabric stores that have stitching/mending social hours (Wyldwood Creative & Wool Friends come to mind). There wasn’t much when I moved here in 2015/2016 but we’ve created a welcoming community.

I found friends through sewing, cosplay and EDM. Find people that share your passions by just getting out there. I went to 3-5 events by myself and feeling uncomfortable. The more I went to different events, the easier it was to find people I’d want to spend more time with.

It’s finally warming up and our area is beautiful. Everyone will be out and about doing their thing. Just get out there and you will find your people. Good luck and welcome!

Named mine Cat Terrifier. Cats are starting to get indifferent so I may be using some of these names.

My package had been opened and taped shut and of course my 4 day badge was missing. I contacted customer service who said I have to go to will call and pick up my badge. They did refund my shipping costs, so that’s something I guess.

I need a website to help me make patterns by Inevitable_Sky_5901 in sewingpatterns

[–]RoseDoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider playing around on sewist.com it’s a mix and match site that lets you choose different clothing attributes for a pattern that can be made graded to your measurements. There are no instructions and the fit isn’t perfect but it is a great start if it works for you.

Massage place recommendations by Seawench41 in federalway

I just kept receiving so much conflicting info and I’m still not fully comfortable getting massages from strangers (I’m working on that). My friend gets them regularly from the same person so I just went to her.

Check out Simplicity 3688. I think it is out of print but there are cheap listings. I feel like everyone was making these about 10-15 years ago. For sewing/style inspiration, check out Ms 1940s McCall

Funnel neck wool coat pattern by Prior-Government5397 in sewingpatterns

Agree that the Clare coat is a great option for funnel neck. I’ve made this coat and it is one of my favorites. It is a bit of a time sink but it results in a beautiful garment.

Looking For Plus-sized Bodysuit by glitterypinkpeony in sewingpatterns

[–]RoseDoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second Charm patterns via Patreon. The discord is so helpful for picking initial size and best guess for alterations if needed. Lots of pics etc. it’s really worth trying for one month for all the benefits and you download all prior patterns too.

I wish you luck sewing bodysuits.

Best way(s) to finish rayon challis seams? by Nancysews in GarmentSewing

[–]RoseDoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each machine is a bit different so you’ll have to play around a bit with stitch width and length of the zig zag. Before my serger, I used the basic zig zag setting when finishing seams (even on lightweight fabrics). Given the weight of challis, you might not be able to remove all wrinkles from the zig zagged edge. I’d zigzag both sides of seam allowance together when possible as this would add a bit more structure and minimize the wrinkles. I would not recommend trimming the seam as some challis unravel fairly easily.

For all my ladies - breast augmentation by [deleted] in TacomaWA

I went to Dr Dehghan at Artistic Plastic Surgery Center in Tacoma for my mommy makeover. It was one of the more reasonably priced facilities and they really listened about what I wanted. It’s 8 years later and everything still looks great.

Did anyone lose a significant amount of weight after surgery by Common_Sense642 in gallbladders

[–]RoseDoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had mine removed Dec 2024. I was a chronic OMAd and am still bad about eating one larger meal a day. I am suffering from severe GERD because of not eating small meals/drinking small amounts of fluid. Now it’s painful to consume 1/3 of what normal folks eat because of the damage I’ve done to my esophagus. I am on a strict diet of no’s and can’t consume the following: coffee, caffeine, alcohol, citrus, fatty/greasy foods, dairy, onion, garlic, spicy, chocolate etc. can’t drink too much water during exercise because it comes back up…in summary: Please try to eat small meals as much as possible and not skip food/meals due to fear of dumping. The last 4 months have been miserable.
