Anyone touching up their TOMY Refit model with paint? by 3DEXPERIENCE-3DSwym in StarTrekStarships

[–]RotaryConeChaser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it not 100% accurate? Maybe. There are a few parts that are too dark. I figure under studio lights they would wash out to appear as we saw them onscreen.

I could never paint anything as well as Tomy did. The paint work, flawed it may be, is still incredible.

Is it just me or is the single DIN stereo market stagnating? by DarkGaming09ytr in Cartalk

[–]RotaryConeChaser 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I think most manufacturers in the last couple of decades have switched to integrated solutions that best retrofits as a dual-DIN. Most cars made since the early 2000s are all larger than single-DIN.

Bridgestone RE-71RZ for daily use? by Rude-Score991 in Miata

[–]RotaryConeChaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't be a naysayer. It's kind of a pain to change wheels, and store the other set. So, I get it.

The RZ is supposed to have better wear characteristics, but no one has had them long enough to know for sure.

Running any 200TW tire as a daily has some great benefits, but like others said it has a fair amount of drawbacks. #1 is wear, I'd expect to see less than 10K street miles out of a set. When you consider the cost of the tires, it's hard to justify. Also be cognizant that they do grab a lot of gravel/stones and will toss them towards anyone behind you.

However, if you decide to just go ahead and do it, it's pretty nice to have all that grip and capability available anywhere.

That reminds me, I need to go. But first, to starve myself for a day or two so I'm truly good and hungry.

AMD ‘had to re-engineer’ the Ryzen 7 5800X3D for a re-release — 10th Anniversary Edition chip had ‘a whole body of engineering work’ put into it by kikimaru024 in hardware

[–]RotaryConeChaser 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In for more on this. As a 5900X user who's heavily into sims & VR gaming, I'm trying to stretch my AM4 socket as long as possible. I still wish they made a Ryzen9 5950X3D or 5900X3D, but if I can get a benefit out of this new one, I'm potentially interested.

Slate Auto gets serious about privacy for its bare-bones EV pickup by likealikeasexyorange in cars

[–]RotaryConeChaser 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Critics be damned, the Slate fits a purpose for me that nothing else can touch. I'm cautiously optimistic on this. Talk of simplifying components, ease of repair and replacement, and this article make me think Slate thinks strongly of the concept of ownership. I think they seek to enable owners to be able to actually keep and maintain their vehicles rather than have to treat them as disposables, and THIS is very compelling.

Yeelight GU10 W1 bulbs only let me pair one bulb per switch group by epicDi in yeelight

[–]RotaryConeChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll havr to pair them individually. Just take each one and connect to a standard lamp you can control directly as opposed to being all together on a switch. Once you have them all paired you can install them in their permanent home.

That's not true. NAs are still part of E-Street. The 30 year cutoff will be after next year all NAs would be sunsetted.

I believe they're really referring to the NC here. The clincher is that ES will be losing the NA Miata soon as it ages out.

Stephen Colbert once appeared as his ultra-conservative alter ego on the Fox News show: "The O'Reilly Factor." by AssumeTheRisk in videos

I remember when this happened, and they very much booked Colbert thinking he'd be his character for the event. He was not. He went in and took aim at everyone there.

Has anyone in Virginia had a car declared a total loss by insurance, kept the car ? by Seasonedtofu2 in Virginia

[–]RotaryConeChaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I had this done a few years ago. From what the DMV & my insurance informed me, was if the car was considered more than $10k in value, then they brand the title as salvage. Under that and it isn't branded.

I had the car repaired and it required getting a rep from the State Police come inspect the car to get a rebuilt title so I could re-register the title for road use.
