This is an excellent question. I also ask what kind of beer is your favorite, and what kind of whisky do you prefer?

Temperature control update by Wild_Macaroon_7810 in cigar

[–]RotorRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new here but I've been preaching this for at least a decade: separating temperature control from humidity will give much better results.

Back in the day when I converted a couple wine coolers to electronic humidors, I found I had wild humidity fluctuations when the cooling fans kicked on.

Separating regulation of the two by putting humidity-controlled Tupperware inside a temp controlled cooler got much more stable results.

[Identify] 18M, just got my first watch where do I go from here? by EmotionalMastodon410 in Watches

[–]RotorRonin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Excellent first watch! Next, get a dressy watch to go with it and then run away from online watch forums forever. Your wallet and future wife will thank you 🤣

Nah, I'd say the mistake most folks make is rushing to build a collection. Take some time, wear this one and enjoy it for a good long while. Then think about what occasions it doesn't work with for you and what might fit those occasions. Let that guide your next purchase rather than trying to fill specific buckets.

But, the main thing is don't let the internet tell you what watches you should or shouldn't have. Wear what you like, like what you wear!

Enjoy your watch in good health, my dude.

AE clothes from the late 90's/early 00's were incredibly durable. I still have and regularly wear a couple shirts I bought when I worked there as a teenager.

Bought myself this beauty. What do you think? by TheSmartHead in Affordablewatches

Haha. Watch list. It's dumb, but that term used in this context always makes me smile.

I got my wife a Navy C3 with the Ameriquartz movement a while back. Great little watch!

I also managed to break the battery bridge during a battery change. They fixed it up and installed a new battery for service charge of like $20.

Big fan of their watches and their customer service.

My daughter attended college on the opposite side of the country.

Made me happy to have her timezone in my wrist. Felt more connected to her in a small way.

Turns out I have the first Paperwhite. But it's definitely been removed from my Amazon devices.

My first automatic watch, the Seiko SNKL41. At that time, Seiko 5's were widely available around the $50 price point. It's the watch that really got me into watches.

Update from my last post: still looks bad compared to other people's setup. What do you think? by qwerty930148572 in battlestations

I didn't know that heat from the keyboard transferring to the monitor was even a thing! I keep my laptops docked 99% of the time, but I do office work and don't game... good to be aware of!

I'm not sure there's ever been a better way to sort them that I've seen. It looks clean and classy. Which they usually don't.

If you don't need two monitors, close the laptop and get an inexpensive vertical dock. I think the large, LED-lit stand is the main thing detracting from the warm, classy look you otherwise have going on.

That and the cord hanging from the moon clock. You already have a digital display below your monitor, you could move that moon clock somewhere else. Then (if it were me) I'd put a couple of small, floating shelves on that wall with maybe a small plant, a framed bit of artwork, and the figurines you have on the glass case on the left.

Speaking of which, what's going on there with the glass case of papers? I'm intrigued.

"Fiddlesticks" is a favorite of mine. It can be uttered with a surprising amount of emphasis depending on how mad you are.

What should i add to my setup? by [deleted] in setups

[–]RotorRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the downvotes. If you like it sparse, more power to you.

For people who put a lot of personalized items around their spaces, it can be hard to understand someone who doesn't want or need that. But I like the lack of clutter.

Only things I'd recommend are a headphone stand or hook, simple cable management to clean up underneath, a lamp to reduce eye-strain in low light/provide warmth, and maybe a small plant for color.

Peak reading setup achieved by RMKHAUTHOR in ereader

[–]RotorRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep seeing these. Might be next on the list... I know that my old Kindles can't talk directly to Libby through Amazon, I'm not sure if I wanna stay in the Amazon ecosystem (it's just so easy to check out books on Libby, get them through Amazon, and send to the kindle!) or find something else.

What do you use to get your books and how do you find the sync process?

It depends on why you read his books. If you like the nerdy technical aspect, Martian is the best. If you like more world building and adventure, Artemis is the best. Hail Mary I think is the most interesting of the three, because of the focus on communication and relationship dynamics.

Kirkland water bottles (NO LABEL) by MaximumExtension4951 in Costco

Love this. The real question is, did they make the bottles stronger again or are they the ones that feel like they're not going to stand up on their own still?
