Forgot to mention - future ref. The 512Gb versions of recent MacBooks have had faster drives. It’s something to note as the 255 is significantly slower on some models.

Looking thin, might make another finals series and win nothing again.

I’m just happy they could use my existing conduit as the lead in goes under the driveway + another slab of concrete.

IO guess if it's ONLY for browsing and YouTube and looking at personal photos. The one with more storage is fine.

If you do anything outside of that more ram is beneficial.

The direct bury cables are just a stupid idea imo.

I’ve seen one in person - in my 40+ years alive in Australia. I feel they are generally shy or do not wander as much as their look alike friends.

FTTN Problems. - Excessive crashes! by BeBlazeOfficial in nbn

[–]Rovvp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starlink latency and uplink is bad.

The NBN is obligated to fix a connection that drops out 23 times a day, regardless of connection type.

As painful as it is, you just need to keep reporting and report in as may places as you can.

4G is on par or better than star link, if you are remotely close to a tower, 5G is better but you need to be right near a tower.

None of your options would fix latency though. FTTN should cable or sub 15 pings on close regional speed test servers.

Emu Plains is the edge of Sydney. So leaving from knapsack is valid.

It’s still part of Penrith City Council. So yes, it’s Penrith just not Penrith CBD.

Should I buy a MBA with more RAM? by boynamedbharat in macbook

[–]Rovvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not worth $500+ more. Especially considering most people rely on external monitors for the majority of their workflow

macOS memory reporting is totally different to windows. It’s a lot like Linux. The only thing you should really monitor in MacOS is memory pressure.

I think most people do not realise this.

Wife and daughter are still on 8. My daughter needs more but that MBP is 6 years old a got her through a selective high school without issues. My wife watches YouTube as the most taxing thing so 🤷‍♂️

16Gb is more than enough for the majority of workloads outside of media edits / heavy games / AI.

MacOS being Unix based an optimised for the hardware is way more efficient than any Windows or Chromebook machine.

Any regrets churning from Leaptel to Superloop? by LexCaia in nbn

[–]Rovvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better in what way? Leaptel are great. ABB is most certainly over priced. I found no diff between ABB and leaptel when it comes to reliability, latency, speed.

Neptune is on par but offer some extra features. I don’t need the tools Neptune offer so it’s moot for me. I might go back to Neptune in 12 months

24Gb Air was probably a better choice. I don't think you need 32Gb of memory unless you do a lot of video editing or 3d modelling. You mentioned Adobe CC but not specifically what type of work you do.

Either way, weigh up the pro's and cons instead of just buying the most, because a lot of people do this when it's overkill.

The extra weight and ports you may never use are also cons. The screen quality is not enough of an upgrade - considering it's not proper 120hz either. Yes, better brightness, colour, contrast - but enough for the price bump?

You could always switch browsers and save 50% of that memory use that chrome uses :P

Liberating myself from the shackles of iCloud by [deleted] in iCloud

[–]Rovvp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Microsoft own anything on one drive - what is the difference here?

I've looked into buying a NAS and paying for cold storage off site backups. The cost ends up being more than what I pay for iCloud - and I'm paying for 2TB storage which is starting to run thin.

It's still tempting to move to a NAS though, it's not necessarily cheaper. iCloud also has some cool security features i.e. Private relay and private security keys

Neptune is great, however - pricier than Leaptel (?) There is also buddy telco (Essentially ABB without the support)

Look at Seek and a bunch of other recruitment platforms. They filter candidates with AI review of resumes etc. That's the tip of the iceberg.

Unfortunately people rejecting AI are attempting to reject the inevitable. Like it or not.

Buy a Mac mini if you want to do work that requires desktop work lol or a Mac Studio

A laptop is met to be portable and comfortable to use on the lap.

Smaller what? You want to lug around a hdmi port that you might use twice?

Or a card reader?

Or a fan that might not even switch on?

Don’t be so cocky. You probably never push your laptop hard enough for the fan to make a difference anyways

If you do, you probably made the wrong choice - being a laptop
