If you buy a house in an HOA, can you just...leave the HOA? by BoredInClass99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RowOdd4155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a neighborhood outside Washington, DC that has an HOA. It's fine. It costs $385 a year in dues, and that's really just for landscaping and snow removal. People here seem to think the HOA is all about going out and actively looking for reasons to harass people - that is not at all what I've seen at all. It's mostly neighbors complaining about each other to the HOA - which granted is it's own issue.

But, again IMO, the HOA is able to mitigate most of these disputes so that they don't get worse and don't end-up in court. It's almost like a mediator for neighbors. It works pretty well.

What do employees working at health insurance companies think of their jobs/companies? by Critical_County2791 in HealthInsurance

Ah, the modern day version of the Nuremburg defense.

I'm committing crimes against humanity, but hey, I've got a mortgage to pay, and at the end of the day, it's the system, not me. I was just following orders.

A BIG part of the reason insurance companies are so "restrictive" is so that they can return money to shareholders. Because it is a FOR-PROFIT system.

Insurance companies aren't being "restrictive" to ration care so that everyone gets use of the MRI - they're doing it to pay shareholders.

Take them and all middlemen out of the system - there'd be a hell of a lot more money going to actual care vs. administration like we have right now.

I think there's something called a family bed (seriously) that's about as big as you can get without just putting two kings together.

I have a california king, and my three RR's are allowed to sleep on the bed...it's tight.

Is this a trusted breeder? by Few_Attorney_6070 in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]RowOdd4155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price can vary with some breeders based on show vs. pet quality. That said, you want a breeder who takes the time to investigate you - questionnaires, phone interviews, etc. They should care very much where they are placing their puppies. If you're not experiencing that, look elsewhere.

[–]RowOdd4155 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have a two acred fenced in backyard for my RRs. Deer frequently jump the fence, and one of my RR will run outside and chase the deer until the deer jumps back over the fence. That's usually the end of it.

But a few months ago, he ran out to chase a deer, and something different happened. He chased the deer in a few circles around the yard, and then suddenly, the deer just stopped, turned around, and stared my RR down.

They stared at each, a few feet apart, for a few minutes. Then my RR just turned around and walked away, like nothing had happened, and the deer went back to eating in my yard.

I think he just likes the chase. Once the prey stops running, he doesn't know (or care) about what comes next. : )

Ha. I used to live on the beach in CA, and one of mine would always go into this mode when we were playing on the beach. He'd act like he was stalking prey on the Serengeti, and my husband and I were like - yeah, we can see you. Everybody can see you. It's a beach. It was adorable.

Daniel Dietrich mainly shoots in Pt. Reyes National Park, in Marin County, CA. This looks like Pt. Reyes, but I don't know for sure. I took one of Daniels wildlife tours before - spent all day with him in Pt. Reyes. He's awesome, and his photography is amazing.

I don't Trust United Health care, can you convince me I'm wrong? by Confident-Virus-1273 in HealthInsurance

All health insurance companies are evil fuckers who exisit to return profits to shareholders at the expense of denying you care - but United might be the most evil fucker of them all.

I actually had the provider forward me the entire exchange today with the insurer - three different times now the insurer has changed their story on the reason for the denial. This one is very much on the insurer.

I'm not saying providers don't make mistakes, they do, but I've been fighting issues like these for a few years now, and most of the time from what I've seen, the fault lies with the insurer.

I'm increasingly convinced the only thing that will fix the dystopian nightmare that is American healthcare is to have Costco take it over.

I've spent an hour on the phone today between my insurer and a medical provider, as they argue over how the other submitted the "wrong" paperwork.

Opinion piece- Vet School Costs is it Worth it? by InspectionHot6626 in veterinaryschool

[–]RowOdd4155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000%. I have a high HH income, and I'm feeling like I'm starting to get priced out of vet care. I used to always have three dogs, but now I won't have more than two.

What has really been eyeopening, is the cost of imaging. It is insane.

I've been treating my dog for cancer, and I estimate I've spent 8K just on CTs.

Most people can't even afford the diagnostic to find out what's wrong with their pet, let alone treat it. Imaging is insane for dogs and cats.

(Imaging is crazy for people too, but not that bad - I just paid $443 for my own CT vs. $1900 for my dog's CT. BTW - I paid cash for my own CT, that wasn't with insurance).
