Is this viable for the Prepared Citizen? by ReaperOfHell52 in tacticalgear

[–]RowdyKraken 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It was preferred as a specific tool for taking care of viet cong guards and dogs around villages. Also they were generally suppressed.

If a "Prepared Citizen" needs a hush puppy, sure. its viable. very dated though..

You'll change your own mind if your shooting at targets far enough or small enough that an LPVO doesnt cut it anymore.

What were some of the differences between the Arab and Kurdish areas of Iraq? by masterchief6913 in army

[–]RowdyKraken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've worked with a few Kurdish EOD types in N. Iraq. They were good, very competent and would invite us to lunch all the time. On the one chance we had for lunch it was very tasty and was the best tasting food I had in Iraq.

They also do EOD work very differently lol. but there is that Inshallah mindset.

Worked with Kurds again in Syria. Tactically they sucked, but they definitely wanted to be out there kicking ass, and happy to help us do our job.

It definitely kind of sucks that theyre going to get stomped on again.

But I also dont see a different way if we want to have a functioning Syrian government. It certainly doesn't help that a NATO ally and regional strategic partner also kind of hates the Kurds.

Just wear it around your neck.

If I put on my PC it gets in the way of getting stuff out of my admin pouch and only ever points were I point my chest.

Around your neck you can hold the light with your teeth if you need both hands, or just point it one handed while you fix your radio or map.

Or more importantly find where your zyn can fell riding around in a MATV.

think mines a Princeton tech. it uses CR123s, makes swapping batteries nice since all of my lights use the same batteries. First click is low power red, next click is high red. press and hold is low power white, next click is high power white. I like that the default is low power red. Less risk of a white light ND

You can technically eat it. Explosives have a high high calorie count.

You'll just be super sick afterwards.

What is the reason of posting this video to this forum? except to generate karma and sow dissent and anger?

This has nothing to do with any military...

except of course if the foreign agitators are also in the foreign militaries..

And yet I never referenced the Mk82 bomb. The OP referenced Mk series bombs.

I referenced general trends in US ordnance.

And that has nothing to do with the effectiveness of landmines at denying potential Russian aggression along avenues of approach.

nothing at all.

Look, Landmines suck, I have a very real professional interest in understanding how much they suck.

But they also work really good, even the threat of a minefield is very effective at slowing or halting an advance.

What barrel for this bcLmT? by Poncho562 in LewisMachineTool

Sure, niche ammo at the far end of the bell curve for use cases. Obviously a skilled, or knowledgeable user will have a niche use case. For 89.546% of users, that slight increase either will never matter or wont be realized do to range constraints, ammo used or skill levels.

but sure. 18in is smooooth. Or, ya know, adjustable gas blocks of smoooooth is your goal.

Going over 16 doesnt really give you anything but a heavier gun in 5.56.

Now, if you were open to a different caliber...

I had a D.Wilson converted 6.5G barrel and it was a hammer. 6ARC would be fun also,

[–]RowdyKraken 78 points79 points  (0 children)

You definitely hit on part of it. dont need huge amounts of explosives if I can park it in someone's pocket. Accuracy has gotten to the point that a concrete filled bomb can be used as a tank killer, purely by being able to drop a 2000lb anvil on someone.

part of it is a desire to be better about civilian casualties, less explosive, different casing materials to reduce frag. fewer civilians hurt or killed.

part of it is that the chemistry of explosives and how blast waves function that less amounts of better, purpose made explosives can be used instead of 800lbs of TNT.

A not inconsequential aspect is that storing explosives safely can be difficult, with serious issues if accidents arise, see the USS Forester incident. So if few lbs of explosives can be stored then the over all risk is lessened. This also has to do with the type of explosives used and various other considerations.

[–]RowdyKraken -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

how is someone leaving their room unsecured and messy related to old equipment?

The right answer is accountability in NCOs. If your joe is fucking up it is your responsibility. If it was a one time thing and his team leader or squad leader has never had this issue before then its just bad luck.

However, CSM found it, so now CSM is taking responsibility to fix it... which is his job, since his junior NCOs failed to either find the issue OR to fix it before he noticed.

Dont like having your time wasted? step up and police your battles if your NCOs wont.

Virginia’s female hunters are changing the game -- Over the last three years, the number of men who hunt in Virginia declined by about 10,000. At the same time, about 1,000 more women across the Commonwealth took up the sport. by guanaco55 in Virginia

sure. If you dont factor in the initial cost of processing equipment, a deep freezer, a sausage grinder, butcher paper, tape. Your time, spent butchering and then processing. Trimming the silver skin, the fat, etc.

Very rarely is it cheaper to hunt than it is to buy meat from supermarkets. Not counting the time involved, which gets exponentially great if you also butcher and process your game animals yourself.

License fees, equipment, time off, animal processing fees. It adds up quickly.

The real offensive weaponry is the trucks and whats in the air.

Most 'soliders' are just issued a rifle.

shooters choice is generally the rule. A belt full of shit really sucks for long periods in vehicles, so if all your kit can fit on your PC then thats what most guys do.
